Vidya in The Dirty Picture
You mean to say that Vidya Balan did not receive "universal acclaim" for The Dirty Picture? Smarojit (talk) 10:30, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
- What do you mean by universal acclaim? Was her work in The Dirty Picture nominated for Oscar, Bafta, Golden Globe or any other "FIAPF-accredited film festivals" ? —Vensatry (Ping me) 10:41, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
- Wow! So the Oscar's judge the standard of an Indian film actress' success in an Indian film. I didn't know that! Smarojit (talk) 07:17, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hmmm you need to answer my first question! —Vensatry (Ping me) 07:21, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- The answer to your question is that critics from both India and abroad were unanimous in applauding her performance. And that's precisely what "universal acclaim" means. Smarojit (talk) 07:56, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- May be! I'd still not support the statement because it did not fetch her any award like what Suchitra Sen got for Saat Pake Bandha. IMO that is universal/international acclaim or whatever you may call. A film doing well overseas no way implies that the lead character is solely responsible for the same or it doesn't make them a big star there overnight. I'm unsure about the fact that how many audience outside India would be aware of Vidya Balan. Anyway if you feel the film fetched her universal acclaim add it back with a reliable source. —Vensatry (Ping me) 10:48, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- Acclaim means appreciation from a noted authority. Critics, both from India and outside praised her performance, that could easily be summarized as a universal acclaim. Awards are also one form of acclaim, but they are not the only one! Could you point out one negative remark from a notable critic or judge on her performance? - Rotten tomatoes. Secret of success (talk) 16:32, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- Is this sufficient enough to prove her performance earned her lot of acclaim from all over the world. If that's the case, I can show you many movies of Aishwarya Rai for which she got universal acclaim. I think unanimous acclaim is somewhat acceptable. —Vensatry (Ping me) 09:49, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
- So, you are saying that universal acclaim means praise from critics residing in all the 193 countries of the world? Secret of success (talk) 05:03, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
- In this case, "universal acclaim" is bordering on wp:peacock. Why do not you use exatcly what you are trying to convey by the term"universal". Borrowing fom a post above, "...critics from both India and abroad were unanimous in applauding her performance" -- this clause can be used instead of "universal". That would be objective and true, rather than the vague term universal.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:55, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Mani Ratnam
Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article Mani Ratnam you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period.
Secret of success (talk) 04:35, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
- My apologies, but I feel the article was nominated prematurely. It needs a lot of work on whether the sourcing mainly, along with a bit of prose work. If you want, I will gladly continue the review but it will take a lot of time, mind you. Thanks. Secret of success (talk) 05:48, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hmmm, same thoughts here. I thought it will take more time these days to review as the page is full of backlog. There are problems with existing sources with many of them not following WP:V. I really had no time to check each and every source. Will renominate the article once all these issues are fixed. You may fail the article as I have very little time on WP at the moment. —Vensatry (Ping me) 16:01, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Kapil Dev List
just saw your post in my archives, I see that someone else has already copyedited, is there anything in particular you want me to take a look at? cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 07:06, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- There hasn't been a big change in the quality of prose after the copy edit. Can you provide an informal review about the whole article. —Vensatry (Ping me) 16:17, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Mani Ratnam
In accordance with the article being reviewed for GA status, shall we add critical responses for his movies? He has got praise as well as sharp criticism at the same time for most of his movies. What say? Thanks. - VivvtTalk 04:43, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
- I had a thought of adding it. But I find it very difficult when it comes to find online sources. If you are intending to add you're are most welcome. But make sure that the content does not change significantly day-by-day as it affects the GA review. Regards —Vensatry (Ping me) 15:34, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

A bit more amount of specific details ought to do the trick, you know. I do not understand the connection between the second and the third sentence, whatever that meant. Secret of success (talk) 16:13, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, and to let you know, I prefer to be optimistic. Secret of success (talk) 16:15, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
- May be, that's not a guideline or any strict rule. Just a suggestion! —Vensatry (Ping me) 16:16, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
- Do you have a reason for that? Or is it WP:IDONTLIKEIT? Even you have done these things in the past. Do you wish to discontinue? Secret of success (talk) 16:23, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

I have added more issues to the review page. Do you think its possible to fix them? If not, I shall have to fail the article. Thanks. Secret of success (talk) 16:24, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- I'll be able to fix them. But the article still has some problems (mainly with the ref part) and I'm planning to add more stuff. Since a GAR isn't the process to improve an article (which does not meet the criteria) to make it a GA, you may also fail if you think it's no where close to GA as I already said. —Vensatry (Ping me) 02:59, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
