The 2016–17 Regionalliga will be the ninth season of the Regionalliga, the fifth under the new format, as the fourth tier of the German football league system.

Regionalliga Nord

The season is planned to start on 31 July 2016.[1] Lupo Martini Wolfsburg was promoted from the 2015–16 Niedersachsenliga.[2]

The Regionalliga Nordost will start on 31 July 2016.[3] FC Energie Cottbus was relegated from the 2015–16 3. Liga.[4] 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig was promoted from the NOFV-Oberliga Süd and FSV Union Fürstenwalde was promoted from the NOFV-Oberliga Nord.[5][6]

Liga.[13] TuS Koblenz was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar, Teutonia Watzenborn-Steinberg was promoted from the 2015–16 Hessenliga and SSV Ulm 1846 was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Baden-Württemberg.[14][15][16] The runners-up of the other Oberligas had playoff matches which was won by FC Nöttingen.[17]
