Trinidadian

Since the instructions say "country of citizenship" not "subnational entity they happened to be born in", someone from Trinidad and Tobago is not a "Trinidadian". It's like changing the citizenship of someone born in the US to "New Yorker" or someone born in the UK to "Great British". Or maybe more correctly, it's changing someone's nationality from Tanzanian to Zanzibarese - it undermines national identity in favour of an identity that existed before the two islands were united. Guettarda (talk) 15:57, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are you saying that there is no joint adjective or demonym for someone from Trinidad and Tobago? By the way, according to Wikipedia's demonyms and adjectives for countries, Zanzibari would be the equivalent of Tanzanian. Editrite! (talk) 23:21, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Editrite!: Correct. There's an informal one - Trinbagonian - but no formal adjective for "citizen of Trinidad and Tobago". As one of them, it bothers me (a lot). And yes, thanks: Zanzibari. I should have remembered that. Guettarda (talk) 01:23, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you should try inventing one, e.g. Trinto (pronounced Trintoe) or Trintoban (pronounced Trintoeban). These are just random thoughts. Editrite! (talk) 05:08, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So what about people from St. Christopher and/or Nevis?...I think ones who died in the past were recorded here as "Kittians" or some variant without reference to Nevis.12.144.5.2 (talk) 22:36, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Madam

Another editor persists in describing prostitute procurer Jody Gibson (died 2 January) simply as a "madam". The primary article madam describes the term as "a polite and formal form of address for women", and says nothing about the sexual nature of the colloquial term. To assist readers' understanding, I think we should use a qualifier like "prostitution madam", but the other editor has reverted this too. I am interested in the opinions of other editors. Thanks. WWGB (talk) 07:29, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As it is how she's described in sources, I can see where it's coming from but if it doesn't even appear on the primary madam page, I would consider it improper. Use the proper terminology. Chef, not cook for example. Rusted AutoParts 07:36, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As you say, there are normally two meanings of madam, a sexual and non sexual one. Therefore, I suggest brothel madam to differentiate. Editrite! (talk) 22:45, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A procurer or "madam" redirects here, which was linked long before I saw this topic. Wyliepedia @ 12:12, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Number 1 in '21

Deaths in 2021 was the most-viewed article in Wikipedia in 2021, with over 45 million views.[2] Congratulations to all contributors and WP:WikiGnomes on this marvelous achievement. WWGB (talk) 02:22, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

And thanks to Prince Philip, Betty White and DMX, without whom only fewer millions would have been possible. Kudos to the runners-up for keeping us going in the months between those peaks. Most importantly, omnipresent dear reader (yes, you), for the daily backlit vigil and relentless refresh rates that literally drive this train, you once again truly deserve this award! Oussou Konan Anicet

There is no mention of poisoning AFAIK, but this man died of a "sudden illness". [3]

Vietnamese sources reported he was poisoned.--79.24.120.74 (talk) 14:35, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please quote your Vietnamese source when questioning information already supported by other sources (such as the one you did include above). A change, if appropriate, would then happen all the sooner. Ref (chew)(do) 18:01, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sidney Poitier's ambassador role?

Should we add Sidney Poitier's ambassador role? He held the position for ten years (1997–2007) and it was for a major country (Japan)? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:32, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'll just say that his entry in the page already drops into a second line on 4:3 computer monitors. Overblown lengthy descriptions are not ideal in a project like this. Ref (chew)(do) 18:06, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Previous years citations being filled in.

@Rlink2: please see the FAQ at the top of this talk page to see why the citations are simply bare. Rusted AutoParts 02:14, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Rusted AutoParts: Ok, does this apply for all "death in" pages or just this one? I'll skip all pages containing "deaths in" until I hear back. Rlink2 (talk) 02:17, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Rlink2: Hi. ALL pages apply, because the same criteria applies to all; that the coding of the Deaths pages becomes so bloated via full cite that page loading times are extended, which is bad news for those with poor broadband connections through no fault of their own. That's one of the reasons, anyway. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 08:42, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
