Spelling of L’manberg

This article spells the nation as both L’manberg and L’manburg. Both spellings have been used interchangeably and Wilbur Soot says both are correct. But it would be good for this page to either stick to one or explain that both are correct and interchangeable. M2r1k5 (talk) 08:22, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@M2r1k5: Most reliable sources spell it as L'Manberg. If both spellings are correct, "L'Manburg" can be used as an alternative spelling if L'Manberg gets its own Wikipedia article, which I highly doubt will happen. L33tm4n (talk) 14:34, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hermitcraft SMP

If a page for Dream SMP exists, why not for Hermitcraft SMP? The Hermitcraft SMP is WAY older and deeply rooted, and has even been acknowledged by Mojang Studios itself, on several occasions, they have taken role in Minecon (Minecraft Live) too. Sincerely, AdigabrekTalk Circassia 12:44, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If DSMP is qualified I think Hermitcraft is too. But I kind of doubt DSMP qualifies for Wikipedia. Sincerely, AdigabrekTalk Circassia 12:48, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:OSE. As you are extended-confirmed, you can create a Hermitcraft article if you like (and if the sourcing situation has changed since the March 2020 AfD. 15 (talk) 17:19, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"See WP:OSE. As you are extended-confirmed, you can create a Hermitcraft article if you like (and if the sourcing situation has changed since the March 2020 AfD. 15 (talk) 17:19, 28 October 2021 (UTC)" That's not actually true. You need administrator access to create a hermitcraft article. I tried creating an article on hermitcraft a few months ago, but it was instantly deleted. Kind regards, JJK2000 (talk) 05:45, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is correct. Hermitcraft is administrative protected due to frequent recreations. –MJLTalk 08:08, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
JJK2000, I didn't realise it was salted, but you can still request it to be unsalted if your draft is substantially different from the version that was deleted (as was not the case the last time you created it, hence the speedy deletion -- ECP and AC users were allowed to create it when you created it, it wasn't an administrator-only thing back then) or have it overturned at DRV. In any case, I don't think a talk page discussion on a different article will help with unsalting.15 (talk) 08:19, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Draft:Hermitcraft exists (I've watchlisted it and I encourage you to do so too). See Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) for its inclusion guideline, and for why DSMP may have an article while other SMPs may not: Wikipedia:Inclusion is not an indicator of notability. Infoboxes

I realise that infobox discussions tend to be unproductive in many cases, but are these two infoboxes really necessary? Information is being duplicated ("release date" and "platform" in both infoboxes) and content is largely unsourced/unsupported by the body of the article (e.g., "Ph1LzA" being a member or Wilbur Soot creating the story, "Origins SMP" being related (source:"With awesomely written scripts and roleplaying, Dream SMP turned out to be a thriller, and Origins SMP is already looking like it’ll rise up to the standard." no other mention)). Most of the sourced content can be found in the first sentences of the lead and the History section. 15 (talk) 22:42, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with getting rid of both infoboxes, they add nothing. Not every article needs an infobox. Hemiauchenia (talk) 22:55, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that these infoboxes don't fit the necessary information. Over a year ago I proposed a Minecraft server infobox, but people there did not like it (note that @L33tm4n also proposed it somewhere else). The main point of contention was that there weren't enough servers w/ articles to justify it. But now there are 9 in Category:Minecraft servers. Like a mad and misunderstood scientist, I took my proposal back and workshopped it a few times since. And my result is User:SWinxy/Infobox mcserver. With more clout (I hope?) people here may support moving it to a full template (w/ modifications if necessary) and placing it onto pages. I looked at what people already put in existing infoboxes, and I hope this would make it more consistent across these articles. SWinxy (talk) 23:01, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are too few notable minecraft severs for a specific minecraft sever infobox to be worthwhile, imo. Hemiauchenia (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 19:05, October 28, 2021‎ (UTC)
You think? 5 of the articles have {{Infobox software}} on them (not including Dream SMP), and I think its use is awkward in the instances and doesn't summarize the key features of the page's subject (MOS:INFOBOX). For example, the "Type" field is hidden at the bottom, where it should be more prominent at the top. Providing useful information is what they are meant to do, not hide it away unintentionally. I'm interested in what you (and others) would say the criteria would be to warrant a new infobox. SWinxy (talk) 03:22, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@15: About the sources; per WP:INFOBOXREF, "References are acceptable in some cases, but generally not needed in infoboxes if the content is repeated (and cited) elsewhere or if the information is obvious. If the material requires a reference (see WP:MINREF for guidelines) and the information does not also appear in the body of the article, the reference should be included in the infobox. However, editors should first consider including the fact in the body of the article." L33tm4n (talk) 02:05, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, hence "unsourced/unsupported by the body of the article" and I don't see how my examples are sourced or supported by the body. MINREF doesn't really negate the need for sources here, given that the content has been challenged with this talk page post. 15 (talk) 08:05, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cast list?

There is a deletion discussion involving Ranboo's article, and Jumpytoo mentioned a cast list, so I decided to come here and ask about implementing a cast list near the bottom of this article. L33tm4n (talk) 18:51, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I support it too, honestly surprised there isn't one seeing as how articles have listed each member. PantheonRadiance (talk) 10:33, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in favour in principle, but have concerns about it being up-to-date if implemented, given the need for reliable sources. In this case, sources could be primary (per WP:ABOUTSELF), so perhaps it wouldn't be an issue? It might also invite more unsourced edits than this article is already plagued with, as people update a list they consider outdated without sources (eg this is a similar issue). 15 (talk) 22:20, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dream SMP member additions are few and far between, and there's usually a lot of noise in the media when it happens. I'm not too worried about that part. But I share your concerns about unsourced edits. M2r1k5 (talk) 15:19, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@M2r1k5: I don't know about that. The only article I could find on the topic was released almost a year ago. I also found this listicle, but it doesn't include a lot of members (and contains errors like how it erroneously refers to Skepina as Skeppy's sister). –MJLTalk 20:34, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I managed to find some when searching for the names of the new members. Link 1 Link 2
Also, by WP:ABOUTSELF, we can use members' own Tweets as sources, many of them do end up Tweeting about joining. Eryn and Tina (this one's maybe weaker) M2r1k5 (talk) 06:20, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Everyone I have pinged: When should I add the list? It seems like there are enough sources to add it (including the updated list of cast members by Dot Esports). Plus, it's been 21 days with no consensus. L33tm4n (talk) 21:58, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind, given that sources and people willing to maintain the list exist. Perhaps it would be sensible to add a current and former subsection for easier referencing.15 (talk) 00:52, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@15: Good idea. I also want to mention how we should go about listing it; table or bulleted list? For now, I'll list it as a bulleted list in alphabetical order with who has access to the server as of the recent list. L33tm4n (talk) 19:09, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a note

Just a heads up, I added a note for the first sentence in the History and Plot section to make the reading a bit more smooth in a similar manner to Michael Jackson's sales figures, combining the four sources used there into one. I assume it's okay to approximate that it formed in spring 2020 under WP:SKYBLUE; most people know April and May are obviously months in spring. Semi-protected edit request on 5 February 2022

Manatreed was formerly added to the server due to being a friend of dream however has since been removed due to his own personal wishes to no longer create content Smilr (talk) 23:21, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. - FlightTime (open channel) 23:22, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reception Section

Since most articles on web/video/film series have a reception section, shouldn’t this one have it as well? There seems to already be a couple citations that would count as a review or reception, so maybe add them there as well? Respects 68.97.131.85 (talk) 19:30, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also perhaps put “web series” in the lede since it’s more of a video series than a server. 68.97.131.85 (talk) 19:32, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

shouldn't there be a controversy section?

a lot of people have criticised the dream smp, and i think we should have a section reflecting that. what do you think? I think the page is kinda misleading blueskies (talk) 16:01, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that they should be avoided, as they often attract content that would not pass the bar for inclusion otherwise, such as chumbox/tabloid "scandals". (See WP:CRITICISM for a good essay.) If there are good sources talking about criticism, we can include them, possibly by renaming cultural impact to reception and adding appropriate subsections. 15 (talk) 16:58, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, it is important to recognize the due weight of these controversies. What things were you thinking? And what sources back them? SWinxy (talk) 00:03, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Avoid "Controversy" sections unless the topic is inherently controversial. I don't think the Dream SMP is one of those topics. SK2242 (talk) 01:54, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
