No, the real name of the author is Dhanpat Rai, while is popular name is Premchand. Munshi is commonly misunderstood to be his honorific, but as is explained here, it is not the case. Munshi was the last name of another person, who co-edited Hans magazine along with Premchand. https://amp.satyagrah.scroll.in/article/108695/the-story-of-munshi-in-premchands-name Seomelono (talk) 08:35, 1 August 2022 (UTC) |

Further, many people consider Premchand's caste identity as being the reason why Munshi title is used for him. Therefore, in the article, I have deleted the mention of Munshi because futher discussion is required. Seomelono (talk) 08:49, 1 August 2022 (UTC) |

Essay style
Some of this article does sound essay like, but not the entire article. Please tag only the guilty sections so that other editors can focus on those parts of the article. The intro and first few paragraphs are fine. In fact, they sound like an Urdu biography of the author. But later sections should be tagged for improvement. Thanks.[1] --KP Botany (talk) 11:50, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Doubts, Suggestions
- Famous Stories and Plays
- Any idea of why & how the titles under Famous Stories and Plays are selected? Once we finalize on what names should be included there we can write the stories in short. Few are already written. This blog http://premchand.kahaani.org/2009/09/contents.html has many stories. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 22:14, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Films & TV Serials
- Some are described well some are written half way only. Cant even make out if they are Films or Serials. What format do we follow here? -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 22:14, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Should we tabulate it? Like this.... Or should we just write paragraphs? -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 11:18, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- Paragraphs, imo. Tables etc would go on a list of works. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 06:53, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Another list from the article
Dont think this belongs on this article. If at all, it should be on List of works by Premchand or a similar list. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 06:52, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- At this stage of development of the article, not agreed. See Shakespeare#List_of_works. Later on when article is better developed the list can be branched off. As of now, it is probably incomplete and is certainly unreferenced. Also, the long list of non-notable short stories needs to be thinned out and only that which is meaningful left in. "updesh" 1917
An IP editor tried to add "updesh" 1917. This was reverted by another editor as it messed up the formatting of a table. I'm guessing it's a WP:GF edit but have no idea of the correct place in the article for this. --Marc Kupper|talk 07:47, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- You're right. It was a good faith edit and I've added it back in. --regentspark (comment) 15:09, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
Name
Shouldn't this be moved to Munshi Premchand, since the lead states he is "better known as Munshi Premchand" (WP:COMMONNAME)? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:49, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
