July thanks

July songs
my story today

On today's Main page, you can find a cantata that Bach first performed 300 years ago, and an iconic saxophonist from East Germany. Also: a bit about the history of QAI on my talk. Thank you for being part of it! A new member designed a user box that I adopted. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:45, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to hear from you again Gerda. I've been busy nominating more articles for GA and have recently become a new page reviewer to help out with the backlog. Hope to be submitting some articles during the summer: I've had a couple of projects hanging around for a while. Schminnte (talk contribs) 19:54, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. The project of those who recently died keeps me quite busy these days, - the saxophonist was nominated only yesterday, and was not through when I went to bed. Now I have a bishop in the same position ;) - The line-up of nominations is at WP:ITNN, and they expect 3 supports. Can you perhaps check, under 11 July, just look for my name. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:07, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know much about ITN, and wonder whether my commenting would cause more harm than good. I hope for the best, though. Schminnte (talk contribs) 20:13, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Understand, and they all made it ;) - While today's DYK highlights Santiago on his day, I did my modest share with my story today, describing what I just experienced, pictured. I began the article of the woman in green. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:16, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Today Jahrhundertring, and I just listened to Götterdämmerung from the Bayreuth Festival (pictured), - the image (of a woman who can't believe what she has to see) features also on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:28, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
i am trying to remove all of my personal data the best I know how for reasons of fraud, porting mirroring data share and any and all downloaded apps that I did not give my authorizations, I have been dealing with this for quit awhile. Any and all help would be vital. Thank you . jenny Lombardo, ksmartluv@gmail 75.188.102.212 (talk) 16:06, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how this is solved by deleting content from random pages. Could you elaborate? Schminnte (talk contribs) 16:12, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Solo Per Due

On 5 August 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Solo Per Due, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Solo Per Due claims to be the smallest restaurant in the world and only serves meals for two? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Solo Per Due. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Solo Per Due), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your GA nomination of Blood on the Floor (Turnage)

The article Blood on the Floor (Turnage) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Blood on the Floor (Turnage) for comments about the article, and Talk:Blood on the Floor (Turnage)/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Thank you for all your work on this @Aza24. I'll have a look at the comments you left before attempting FA. Schminnte (talk contribs) 10:22, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you aren't too busy

Hello. Greetings. Do review this page Vince Dao. It has already been proof read by an admin. I'll appreciate your input and review. Cheers. Wallclockticking (talk) 08:09, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't currently review new pages on request. I assure you that our new page patrol team will review the article in time. Thank you for your contributions and sorry I can't help. Schminnte (talk contribs) 10:21, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help with Draft:Lillian (book)

I've added a reference and sources to the British Library and WorldCat info. I would very much appreciate if the review could be done soon because the recent death of the author is an opportunity to get information about him into the public domain. PeterGrecian (talk) 09:06, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@PeterGrecian: I would recommend that you add more sources to show that the book passes our notability guidelines. The draft has been declined by another reviewer due to this lack of sources. Until the sources can show that the book is notable by these standards linked, the draft will not be accepted. Unfortunately, this may take some time, as there are backlogs all over Wikipedia at the moment. I thank you for your patience, Schminnte (talk contribs) 11:04, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SECoyote (01:22, 9 August 2023)

I became a member because I have seen articles that are either factually or conceptually inaccurate Is it better to contact the OP, or just suggest an edit? --SECoyote (talk) 01:22, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you think there's an error, then you can Wikipedia:Be bold and try to fix it! Schminnte (talk contribs) 02:06, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Instrument 1

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Instrument 1 you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Frzzl -- Frzzl (talk) 11:41, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Query

Hello, Schminnte,

I was just curious how you kept on top of orphaned talk pages that had just been created. I use a Quarry query which does a search for these types of pages but in many instances, I find that you have already tagged them for speedy deletion! Few editors know or care about these random pages so I was curious how you discovered them. Do you notice them while you are doing new page patrol? I wasn't sure that Talk pages would show up on that feed.

Any way, thanks for all of the work you are doing, every little bit really helps keep the project neat and in order. Liz Read! Talk! 22:42, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to speak with you again @Liz. To be perfectly honest, it's probably because I am chronically online. I don't know about using a quarry query, I'm not very experienced in coding. I just regularly check the old Special:NewPages feed while filtered for Talk pages, as well as some other namespaces (Wikipedia talk, File talk, etc). I figure that someone has to do it, so whenever I see these orphaned talk pages I tag them. Sometimes I'm the first to see them, other times not. I don't do it as part of New Pages Patrol per say, but I do my own sort of "New Userpage (and draft)s Patrol" for U5, G11 and G12 regularly (as you're probably aware of by now). This is a sort of extension of that. Thank you for the appreciation: I feel that CSD can sometimes be one of the most misunderstood areas of the project, but for both maintenance and anti-spam work it really is essential. I know you are one as the main maintenance CSD admins, so the kind words mean a lot :) Schminnte (talk contribs) 22:52, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Quick follow-up on this. What are the usual cases of orphaned talk pages that are legitimate/shouldn‘t be deleted? GA reviews come to mind as they technically don‘t have corresponding article pages due to their naming conventions, can you think of anything else? Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 09:10, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Some editors use subpages of their user talk for things like CVUA training and NPP School. I know some WikiProjects also use talk page subpages. Generally if it looks like it should be there, leave it. That probably sounds self-explanatory but it's true. Schminnte (talk contribs) 09:43, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SpaceExplorer12 (13:09, 13 August 2023)

Hi, I just got this thing on my talk page. What does it mean and whose right? Title:G, G, & S Message:No, the edit summary reasoning is factually accurate. The choice to include that specific criticism makes the page less neutral because it is factually innaccurate. This is why it should be removed. Notice the harsher, yet serious and factually based criticism above is left untouched. Tyrone Jahir (talk) 17:46, 12 August 2023 (UTC) --SpaceExplorer12 (talk) 13:09, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there @SpaceExplorer12! I'd Ike to help, but I'm not sure which edit you are referring to. Could you link an article or a diff of your edit? Thanks, Schminnte (talk contribs) 13:16, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think this:https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Guns%2C_Germs%2C_and_Steel&diff=1170006920&oldid=1169884291 but its unclear to me too @Schminnte SpaceExplorer12 (talk) 13:18, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think (?) that that section was ok. Someone's opinion on the book can't be treated as fact, so the edit summary doesn't make much sense. The writer is also an associate professor on that subject. I see no glaring reason for it to be removed. Schminnte (talk contribs) 17:00, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe comment on the talk page @Schminnte SpaceExplorer12 (talk) 17:00, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now that you've directed me to that discussion, I agree with User:Schazjmd here. There are better quotes to use in the source. This is no longer a reverting issue: it's a content discussion now, and I think the other quote makes more sense to use. Schminnte (talk contribs) 17:04, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you mark these as reviewed?

Hello @Schminnte. Could you explain why you have marked these two articles as reviewed in the WP:NPP?

DaxServer (t · m · e · c) 16:36, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly @DaxServer. NPP policy recognises that AfD is meant to be the arbiter of notability, so if an article is nominated for AfD it can be marked as patrolled as long as there are not any other immediate problems (i.e. copyvios, spam, vandalism). In fact, unreviewed pages marked for AfD are catagorised as "easy reviews" on this page. I hope that helps, feel free to ask any more questions that you have! Schminnte (talk contribs) 16:46, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. Have a nice day! ;) — DaxServer (t · m · e · c) 16:56, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

St Hugh's Boat Club

Good evening Schminnte - Regarding St Hugh's Boat Club, please note that there are dozens of other Oxford college boat clubs with their own page so suggest this is not deleted. Happy to discuss further if necessary! Oxonwiki (talk) 18:48, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I'd advise you that WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a good arguement for an article's inclusion. There has been a previous debate as to the notability of the club which led to its deletion, hence the tag. Schminnte (talk contribs) 18:52, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SpaceExplorer12 (20:07, 14 August 2023)

Whys everyone getting so upset on my talk page --SpaceExplorer12 (talk) 20:07, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think they are getting "upset", they're trying to explain potential problems with your editing. These admins are more experienced than me and are making some good points. You should listen to what they have to say and try to make a change to your editing. Clerking traditional admin tasks is a trap that many new users fall for, so don't be too upset, but do stop.
