Welcome message

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

recent changes

Hi there. When removing live links from Wikipedia:Recentchanges, please add a new one from the list below. Thanks, BesigedB (talk) 14:38, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Elaboration appreciated

Hi. Not the most helpful comment! I feel sure this debate has gone on before but I am new to it and would appreciate a bit of elaboration. How can (carefully selected) advertising do any harm? Thanks 4 Wikipedia advertising 19:45, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, I'd just noticed my mistake. --fvw* 01:18, 2005 Jan 24 (UTC)

What Do You Think You're Doing?!?!

I did not vandalize the page on Led Zeppelin IV!!! The album was UNTITLED!!!!!! You're making me look bad and I do not appreciate it! Potatoeman57

RC

I dunno. What's RC? – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 00:20, Jan 30, 2005 (UTC)

Ah, that makes sense. I'm active at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion, and after a week, all images that have been listed and not rescued can be deleted by any admin. So I did. Don't worry - I'm not an out-of-control bot or anything. :) Best regards, – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 00:29, Jan 30, 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Georgia Guy... GG, okay? I found you on the UFO page, and gotta wondey if any intelligent life on earth really thinks there are little green men sneaking in and out among us, or just perhaps maybe some of our own species might not be up to no-good. Whaddya think? Could there really be, among the "infinite" planetary possibilities, an infinite number of planets that support life...like our own...with common history and culture...and advanced technology...(similar to our own WW2 stuff)...and even have the urge to dominate our world, or perhaps to save us from ourselves, OR do you suppose that with only a finite (ie, definite) number of planets, not really infinite at all, it is possibly MORE LIKELY that some post-WW2 group of humans actually think they can pass themselves off as a "superior race from outer space." That couldn't be plausible, could it? I mean, if it was really plausible that humans wanted to present themselves as superiors, surely we would have been told on TV... I mean, doesn't the government make sure that only the truth is told on TV? So, if it was true that UFO's were really from earth, around the time of WW2, wouldn't our government make the TV tell us so? Whaddya think, GG?

Page moves

I saw your note on User:RdSmith4's now-deleted talk page. Heh, that wasn't me, it was Willy on Wheels impersonating me. User:Rdsmith4/Sig 17:02, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Try to be polite

Hi- Wikipedia really isn't the place for rants, insults, etc. That's what IRC is for. I found your tone on the Talk:Pop-Tarts page to be a little inappropriate and over the top as a repose to a simple comment about an encyclopedia article.ike9898 15:50, Feb 6, 2005 (UTC)

Sandbox template

What's the point of Wikipedia if it can't be just a little bit flexible?

--212.100.250.214 14:30, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I saw your note on Talk:Three halves. It hasn't closed yet simply because there are WAY more VfDs added to the queue each day than there are administrators to deal with them. Actually, it doesn't take an admin to do the redirect that the discussion calls for: you're more than welcome to be bold and do it yourself. In fact, you could close the discussion yourself, since the consensus wasn't "delete." Joyous 21:55, Mar 1, 2005 (UTC)

The full whammy set of instructions are here. The instructions you'd be most interested in are # 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. In a nutshell....Find the discussion on the WP:VFD/Old page. Edit the discussion (not the entire page.), and type at the very top (above the article title)

{{subst:vt}} RESULT. ~~~~

and at the bottom

{{subst:vb}}

I personally like to boldface the "result" but that's a style issue. Let me know if you have any other questions. We get very backlogged at the closing page, and would love your help. There are lots of article with an outcome of "redirect," or "merge," or "keep." Anyone can handle these. It seems to work best if admins do the "delete" discussions, so we can close the discussion and delete the article in one fell swoop.

Cheers! Joyous 23:35, Mar 1, 2005 (UTC)

  • Contgratulations! The VfD closure worked fine! The only thing I forgot to mention is that when an article isn't deleted, we also add a short message to its talk page that links to the VfD discussion. Since I was a doofus and forgot to tell you, I've done it myelf. You can see it here. Joyous 01:18, Mar 2, 2005 (UTC)

For future reference: Please place the notice, {{subst:vt}} result, above the section title, and don't forget to sign your name when closing the debate. You only need to sign your name for the {{subst:vt}} portion. -- AllyUnion (talk) 12:17, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Well done! Now, did I mention it can be proven by mathematical induction <evil grin> !! Securiger 11:52, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Dupe Sections

I'm not sure what happened there, but I suspect it was partially due to the edit conflict between your edits and my edits and the fact that I was editing each section on that page separately. One or the other of us probably got things mixed up when the Edit Conflict warning came up. I think we have it straightened out now, at any rate. :)

You sort of implied that this has happened before. Has it? If so, under what circumstances? —chris.lawson (talk) 23:26, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"Strong vandal"

I am indeed a strong vandal. I will continue until being blocked. And then...I'll continue after I've been blocked. Please reply, and give me a chance to reply back before blocking me.--212.100.250.207 16:25, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Sandbox

Question, while the Sandbot is away, what are some of the things we need to watch out for in the Sandbox? I notice the whole page is over 100 KB long, and it is very very very long. Zscout370 00:50, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Reverting vandalism

Nice job on reverting User:JesusHadBetterBeInYourHeart's vandalism. I blocked him, and it looks like you repaired his damage. Oh, and I would request that you not use the {{test4}} template if you can't be sure that the user will be blocked the next time. It makes it slightly awkward if an administrator comes along and would like to warn the user another time before he blocks him. Just a suggestion. Thanks for your vigilance, and keep up the good work! — Knowledge Seeker 01:37, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Here is the Atlas Award. You have done such a great job of cleaning, patrolling, and removing offensive content from the sandbox. "Mr. Sandbox Cop," here is my offer. Thanks.

I just blocked his account indefinitely, for his vandalism and for his inappropriate user name. — Knowledge Seeker 01:13, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Reply about disambiguation

Well, Votes for disambiguation can be distinguished from votes for deletion by using the acronym "VfDis" instead of "VfD" however Wikipedians know the acronym "VfD" as Votes for Deletion very well. Now, since there is another VfD, I abbreviated it VfDis. --TheSamurai 17:26, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

How-to articles

My article may not be much right now, but one day it just may be. I was accused previously of having copied it from somewhere else, but the writing is all mine. Jaberwocky6669 22:28, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)

Sandbox edits

You left a message on my Talk page warning me to stop experimenting in the sandbox. If you mean Wikipedia:Sandbox, I think this has to be a case of mistaken identity since I don't use it. Otherwise, I'd be glad to stop doing things that are creating disasterous messes, but I'd appreciate a bit more information about what those things are. --Diderot 17:56, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hello Georgia guy. What do you think should be done with the EMS template? My view, as you see from Talk:Color, is that we should revert to ROYGBIV, but I've held off from making the edit to see if any other comments are forthcoming. Your important note does clarify the situation on Color, but the template appears all over the place. Arcturus 17:39, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Redirect problem

Your redirect from KING to King and the move of KING to KING-TV left behind 16 articles pointing to the wrong spot. When reorganizing, please help by fixing articles whose links may have to change. These are the articles in question:

   * Seattle, Washington
   * List of television stations in Washington
   * List of NBC affiliates
   * Belo
   * KIRO-TV
   * KCTS
   * KONG
   * KSTW
   * KWPX
   * Queen Anne, Seattle, Washington
   * List of television stations in the U.S. by call sign (initial letter K)
   * Jim Compton
   * Media in Seattle
   * KTVB (fixed)
   * KGW (fixed)
   * NWCN
   * KBTC

  • Different Issue, Same Place: I personally think User:DrZoidberg is using a few sockpuppets to do his dirty work in the Sandbox. Is there a way I can tell someone about this? Zscout370 22:30, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Zoidberg

I've asked him to change his invitation because of the comments in the edit summaries. RickK 23:03, Apr 14, 2005 (UTC)

  • Rick, I also posted one of his edits on the Vandalism page. Zscout370 23:07, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I disagree with your moves and think the disambiguation page should be at V8 (disambiguation) and the engine configuration at V8. —Morven 00:51, Apr 16, 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism and the 3rr

So if you think he has commited vadalism why dont you just report him then, instead you have violated, alon with him the 3rr, and have created a edit war over an edit that apparent you seem to disagree with with no dialog other then it's vandalism, as such i have reported the both of you. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 22:12, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Sandbox troll

This is one of the weirdest guys I have ever seen. He has some sockpuppets on Wikipedia:

See the Sandbox history for more details

Typical features of this troll include:

  • Strange edit summaries that are quite long
  • Edits nothing but the sandbox
  • User name is strange and often very long
  • Likes to change accounts
  • Does not have a user page, thus his name is "red"
  • KEEPS REVERTING OTHER PEOPLE'S EDITS

I don't know who this guy is, but he is getting very annoying.
