The closest I can think of are "sandbox" games like Sid Meier's Pirates that have a bunch of plot elements that the player can hit (or not) in any particular order. There's not really any over-arching plot in Pirates, though. APL 19:55, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, there is. The whole reason you as the character are there is to save your family from their evil kidnapper whose name now eludes me. Bose sound systems are usually considered to be some of the best in the business. However, they are also some of the most expensive. You'll find that much disputed. Last time I checked (when I was buying my own home theatre, circa 2004) CNET had some helpful product comparisons, but that site seems harder to use now that it used to be. Unsourced opinion follows...

Since we're plugging brand names, I'll say I ended up getting Aperionaudio speakers. 3.1 for well under $1500 (there was a sale), used my old stereo speakers for the rear surrounds, and was extremely happy. However, I recommended comparably priced Klipsch to a friend since they had a color (midrange-y, "forward", kinda "rock") I thought she'd find pleasing whereas the Aperions were more neutral. Consumer quality amps all sound about the same as long as wattage is sufficient, so purchase receivers for power and features.

Feature length films under 1 hour in length are rare in modern cinema. However, if you go back to the silent era you can find some. For example:

• Sherlock, Jr (1924) is 44 mins,
• The Lane That Had No Turning (1922) is 50 mins,
• For Heaven's Sake (1928) is 58 mins,
• La Aldea Maldita (1930) and The Navigator (1924) are 59 mins,
• Woman's Place (1921), Mama's Affair (1921), Anna Ascends (1922), Doctor Jack (1922), Grandma's Boy (1922) and Roaring Rails (1924) are 60 mins.

Two more recent and relatively short feature films I could come up with are The Land Before Time (1988, 69 minutes) and Zelig (1983, 71 79 minutes). They both lie above your defined running time span though. The longest post WWII film listed on list of short films is Coven (1997, 40 minutes). 40 to 60 minutes seems to be an unusual format, falling somewhere between featurette and feature film. Intriguing discovery! My source seems to have been mistaken, by the way, Zelig runs 79 minutes. But even under 80 minutes is rare these days. Children's movies are sometimes among the shorter ones. Feature length says definitions of the minimum range between 40 and 80 minutes. I suppose things look a bit different if you include TV productions. I wasn't able to find a sorted list or statistics of feature films by running time. Imdb doesn't seem to offer length as a search category. Category:Films by length isn't that helpful either: On the fat end it distinguishes categories for films lasting over 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, and 24 hours. On the other end it only has Category:Short films. Interestingly, the film Running Time has a running time of only 69 minutes.

This is a list of all of the movies made by Billy Caryll, but when you click on each individual film and look at the upper right hand corner, it doesn't look like any of them is available on DVD or VHS, at least not through amazon. Since it's unlikely that anyone with personal experience of Angie Bolling's ticklishness is likely to turn up at the reference desk, it would suggest that rather than the world being divided into ticklish and non-ticklish people, someone's ticklability depends largely on their mood and their relationship with the tickler. Hmm... I didn't seem to find it in there (Or theres something I overlooked). I do remember two things about it though. It's non-fictional, and in one scene, the Nazi's are raiding the families house, and the family had to claim that a friend of theirs was their dead daughter in order to save her. (I remember that they did it by showing the soldiers a picture of their daughter, who originally had black hair but eventually turned blond, and they had to rip the date off or the picture because the age didn't fit...Or something like that.) Really odd X-men collection

I picked up a collection of comics a few years ago associated with the X-Men that I quite enjoyed, though I could easily see why lots of people wouldn't. Now I can't remember the name, or enough details to google it with any accuracy, and I didn't recognize it by scanning the lists here at Wikipedia. It was not directly connected with the X-Men I knew, and showed a team of heroes with lame powers, backbiting and betraying one another, generally incompetent, and, as I recall it, with a startling mortality rate. Laurel and Hardy

It has (unfortunately) been a long time since I saw a Laurel and Hardy film, but I remember several scenes in which they are shown in bed together. I assume this was intended to indicate that they lived in poverty (and could only afford one room and one bed) rather than that they were lovers, but did grown men really sleep together for that reason? How did audiences react to or interpret these scenes when the films were released? I think it was more for the comic effect of two men forced to share a bed due to their circumstances rather than any homosexual undertone. To be honest I have seen quite a few "Laurel and Hardy's" and the thought had never even occured to me. In fact males having to share a bed or huddle together for bodily warmth in adverse situations is surely a clichéd Hollywood staple in comedy films. Of the top of my head I can think of are Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Without a Paddle and I am pretty sure I have seen an episode of Scrubs where that happened as well to name but a few. The second paragraph of this section of the Morecambe & Wise article also suggests it was/is a comedic cliché — although interestingly, it suggests (uncited) that this tradition started with Laurel & Hardy. Dickens puts men sharing beds in inns without any suggestion of their being lovers, and it appears that [Abraham Lincoln] was known to have shared his bed with other men without it being regarded as something shocking. In earlier times lives were played out with a lot less privacy than they are now and in the UK in the 40s and 50s it was certainly not unknown for a lodger to be put to sleep with the son of the house, for example. Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique

In Naruto, Sasuke's always seen blasting fireballs around. Being a fan of Naruto, I thought I'd learn a jutsu, and what other jutsu to learn than the one everyone learns first: Great Fireball Technique. The thing is, I can't get the hand seals right. I've got three versions of the jutsu on my hands!

The first method's hand seals are Tiger, Boar, Horse, Tiger. The person who showed me this method has done it so much, he can probably do the hand seals faster than Sasuke.

The second method's hand seals are Serpent, Ram, Monkey, Boar, Horse, Tiger. I saw this on YouTube, but I don't know what ninja performed it. Clearly either Sasuke or Itachi, but it didn't look like either to me.

The third method's hand seals are Tiger, Monkey, Boar, Horse, Tiger. The person who showed me this method said that if there's one jutsu he's sure of, it's Fireball.

Now, what exactly is the right order? They all seem of equal veracity, ridiculous as it seems. Does the jutsu variate at times, as I've heard? Thanks for the help.--The Ninth Bright Shiner 22:30, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Captains in Football?

Just a quick question. Are there designated captains in football? By that I mean American football and not assosciation football. Not just for the NFL, but for footballs team in general.

If there is no designated captain, is there someone who does hat the captain would do in other sports like hockey? Is it always the QB?

• I have yet to hear about a football team without a captain, so I think most, if not all, have one. I don't see any reason why it would have to be the quarterback. LarryMac is correct. Also, in the NFL this year, captains have a large conspicuous patch on the right shoulder: a block "C" with four stars underneath. That said, there is not a "designated guy to argue with the ref" as in hockey. Any football player is free to yell at the ref, and they're all likely to draw a penalty for doing so. It mentions a door that can't be opened on the top floor. I've beaten this game twice as Soma (once on hard, once on normal), once as Julias and just recently started a new Soma game on hard, and I don't remember this (Is it the Knight statue that raises its sword?). Why Tuesdays

Why are new releases of DVDs, CDs, and books always released on Tuesdays? Why not Wednesdays or Fridays? I've tried searching, but I'm not finding any good answers.160.10.98.44 20:05, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Music/Dvd etc. will release on Tuesday because it gives them a huge amount of time to get 'sales' in before the next week's 'sales rank'. So a song released on Tuesday will have...Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun to get their sales up ready for say the top 40 countdown. I expect that is the reason. Additionally I expect trying to launch things on a Monday is slightly more difficult as Sunday is not (traditionally) a standard working day - giving yourself Monday to get last minute things in place such as displays/promotional material/adverts to air on tv etc. ny156uk 22:05, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

PSM - Playstation Magazine

Help me out here guys. I just opened up issue 130 of Playstation Magazine here, and looked at the letter from the editor. So, PSM is ending. This is news to me, but from I can tell, the magazine is getting a rename and carrying on to...what? Some other publisher? A new team? It doesn't matter much to me, just as long as I've got a Playstation source, but what I really need to know is this: do I have to do anything as far as my subscription goes, or will my subscription for PSM automatically transfer to...Official Playstation Magazine, as I believe it's called? I would assume the ed-in-chief would be obligated to let subscribers know if there'll be a change in their subscriptions. If there was no mention of it from the editor, it's safe to assume your subscription would remain intact. Alien movie

Hey guy I once saw this movie about a family stuck in their house where an alien ship lands on the roof and stuff. Junior High Read

Pardon my vagueness here, but I was thinking about a book series I read in junior high and I can't recall the name. The hero of the stories was a wizard of some kind and he befriended a kind of lizard man or a humanoid with scales. Anyways, it seemed like they could warp around using his wand and they got into some adventures together. Actually I think the lizard guy started out as a villain in the first book. Movies shown on Nickelodeon's "Special Delivery" program

I've been looking for two films that I saw on Nickelodeon as a child. In the early days of the network, I seem to recall there being a lack of content to fill their entire programming day, especially on the weekends. They would show movies and episodic mini-series under the title of Special Delivery (TV series) (unfortunately redlinked). This was approximately between 1984 and 1987. Some of these films I have located (Beat the Turtle Drum , for example), but there are two significant ones that I cannot find titles for. Both were most likely British in origin, although they might have been Australian. The first was about a little boy who's parents ran an inn in a small English village. He was telekinetic and would pop round to the home an old man. The man was helping him to cultivate these powers by playing chess where they moved the pieces with their minds. One day a famous movie star comes to the inn for a vacation. She goes into her room and requests solitude. The boy and his friend (sister, maybe) climb onto the roof to get a glimpse of her though the window. Upon seeing into the room they discover that she is really a mannequin! That is as far as my memory gets. Maybe this was a two-part mini-series and I only ever saw part one, although I do recall seeing this multiple times. The second film I'm seeking was about a girl who was sent from London to live on a country manor estate, possibly to escape the Blitz. She was unhappy and surly toward the old man who was to care for her. The estate had a large lake with a arched bridge across one end. The old man had lost the woman he loved when she drowned in the lake. The film revolved around the redemption and forgiveness of the characters as they traveled through time by passing under the bridge in a boat. I have posted about these films in several other forums but haven't had any luck. Can anyone help? These two films were probably produced in the late 1970's and were most likely made for television broadcast. To me, they were very spooky and had a similar feel to The Watcher in the Woods and Escape to Witch Mountain.
