WarCry

WarCry is a Spanish Power Metal band from Asturias, in the North Coast of Spain, facing the Cantabrian Sea (Mar Cantábrico). Before the current line-up the band went through various formations.

WarCry was formed in 1992 by singer Victor García, but in 1994 was disvanished because of the members side-projects (Victor]] beacame Avalanch's new guitarist, from 1994-'95). In the year 1996 the band was reformed, recording an EP in '97. A year later in 1998 the band disappeared once again when Victor joined Avalanch to be their lead vocals. And finally reformed in 2001 after Victor, and Alberto Ardines left Avalanch.

WarCry is one of the newest and most famous bands in the Spanish Heavy Metal genre, combining Power, Epic, and sometimes Porgressive Metal which has helped them to win numerous Awards in Spain, as well as outside of the country.

History

Origins

In 2001 arised the idea of recording an album with the songs that Victor García and Alberto Ardines were composing in their free time, knowing that those songs were not going to have the opportunity to be a part of any Avalanch albums, the band where they were working in that moment as singer and drummer respectively. The recording was done by themselves, although they had the collaboration in the guitar solos of Fernando Mon and Pablo García, two prestigious guitar players in the region.

In March, 2002 the band Avalanch let Alberto and Víctor know that the band "doesn't count with them", and this is what made them take the decision of making an own band. So we have Victor García on vocals, Pablo García (Relative Silence), Fernando Mon on guitars, Álvaro Jardón (Darna) on the bass, and Alberto Ardines on the drums. Pablo and Álvaro left their respective bands to be an entire part of WarCry, and finally, in August 2002, Manuel Ramil joined the band to be the keyboard player. Víctor and Alberto kept working in the composition and arrangements of a new album, with the collaboration of the rest of the members as soon as they are joining the band. In December, 2002 they made their first live appearance, in a Presentation Party in Avilés (Asturias) and days later as a guest artist in the "Metal Christmas Festival" (Madrid). WarCry announced they were going to release an album in English, but after the good critics in Middle Europe about El Sello De Los Tiempos sung in Spanish, made them realize that it could be a good option to get into the music market in Spanish.

Growing Fanbase

During the first months of 2003, the band was getting the machinery ready for the next tour, which officially began on March 7, and finished December 12 in their natal land, Asturias. During this year, WarCry played and rocked the whole Spanish territory, obtaining new fans in every single concert, and having a great acceptance by the audience. In the middle of the year, the band was ready to begin the conception of what was going to be their third album, "Alea Jacta Est", with the musical contributions and the participation at the composition level of the whole band, and with the idea of releasing it on 2004. At the end of the year, after the band's last tour concert, Álvaro Jardón decided to leave the band. His work on WarCry will always be a part of the band's story, having the friendship of all of his partners.

The album "Alea Jacta Est" was released in January 2, 2004 striking the stores, and the band was ready to present it through the whole Spanish country again in their new tour, and the same day the band made the official presentation of Roberto García as their new bass player. During 7 months they toured Spain, and prepared themselves for their forth album. At the end of the year they finishED the recording of "¿Dónde Está La Luz?", which was released on February 1, 2005. The answer of the public was spectacular, a disc without double big drum, and a more social-thematic in their lyrics.

Success

Taking advantage of the great moment that the band was going through and with a public wishing a live presentation they recorded at the end of the year, a great DVD from a live-concert in the room "Divino Aqualung de Madrid" before 2000 people, which was named "Directo A La Luz" and released on February 27, 2006. It was a great Ascended step in their search for The Top. The critic, the public and the sales have praised this work which tries to transmit every single thing who describes WarCry on the scene and the sensation to see oneself in front of the public, in front of everybody. This work was the number 1 on DVD's sales in Spain and stayed in high positions during many weeks. During all that time, they started the recording of their fifth study album.

On September 18 2006, "La Quinta Esencia" sees the light, signing hundreds of discs in Madrid (More than 1500 people), and the delivery of the Golden DVD in a celebration with the press and fans. In "La Quinta Esencia" they turn backward trying to combine the elements who have take WarCry to the top, from the musical and lyrical point of view. Entering directly to the position 19th, in the national chart-list of sales. Then started their tour on November 2006 in Spain.

Events

Pablo García and the guitars' director from EMMArévalo Oviedo were in Langreo on October 9, 2007. Offering a modern guitar Masterclass in the category of Rock/Metal, and an analysis of the most influential guitarists of the genre, such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, as well as techniques for the study of scales, speed, improvisation... and much more.

In an interview with Miguel Egun from Metal Zone, on November 25, 2007 Victor commented on WarCry's next studio album: "Basically, the current problem is time. We are preparing the concert knowing that we have to put the machine to work in three months the same way it has done in five years of knowledge and experience. But we are already starting to work on the next album. By the amount of tracks, Pablo and myself have more than enough for the this work, but we must qualify them. We also want, 'for the first time in WarCry' not to record the album ourselves but to work with other people who could give us a different point of view; but there still remains the matter of time. Well, perhaps will be the theme the most important thing. I am working on the lyrics and trying to seek new themes and approaches, it is too early to say it, but I think this album will express much duality in human beings, good and evil. The idea is to release it before the summer (May/June), But the sooner the better, but it no longer depends on ourselves, as I commented earlier." See interview (In Spanish)

On December 1, 2007, WarCry will act once again in the hall Artasaia De Pamplona.

Sound

WarCry's music is a combined style of the bands Manowar and Iron Maiden, but perhaps the band which has marked their way to follow has been the also Asturian, Power Metal band Avalanch, where Victor and Alberto formed part as singer and drums respectively.
