Gulaal (Hindi: गुलाल) is an Indian Hindi film directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Kay Kay Menon, Raja Chaudhry, Abhimanyu Singh, Deepak Dobriyal, Ayesha Mohan, Jesse Randhawa, Piyush Mishra and Aditya Srivastava.
Premise
The film begins with Dileep who comes to Jaipur to study law accompanied by his faithful servant Bhanwar. Here the person sharing his place of residence is Rananjay Singh "Ransa"(contemporary intelligent, sensitive young man who refuses to abide by traditions; his ideologies clash with his father's, the local raja). While Dileep goes to find accomodation in a hostel he's ragged and striiped and made to share a room with Anuja who's also been ragged...
Dukey Bana is a powerful local figure who is trying to lead an army of radical Rajputs to get Rajputana back from the union of India. He convinces Ransa to contest in the election for GS as a candidate from Rajputana party.
Ransa is kidnapped and killed by his cousins...illegitimate daughter kiran and her brother... Taking advantage of dileeps closeness with Ransa Bana ensures that dileep wins the election and becomes GS...
Kiran then uses him and ensures that she becomes GS and finally ensures that her brother replaces Bana as the leader of the Rajputana movement...
Production
Gulaal took shape in 2001, when Anurag Kashyap was listening to songs from Pyaasa and his film Paanch was struggling with censors. Inspired by a song from Pyaasa, Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai, the film is a dedication to Sahir Ludhianvi, the lyricist of the song and all other poets who had a vision of India. It was delayed for three years for various reasons, but will be released finally in 2009.[1]. First teaser trailer of the movie was released with the director's other movie Dev D.[2]
