Is the BCCI really one of the world's wealthiest organizations in sport? Bigger than US sports organizations, FIFA or UEFA? When you think about it the there are players in American sports who's contracts are bigger than the $612 million paid Nimbus for broadcasting rights? I think some numbers need to provided here to comparatively assess its wealth as cricket is financially a relatively poor sport especially when compared to NFL, MLB or NHL.

History

Although cricket was used to be played in India on a regular basis since 1792 and sporadically even before that when British soldiers introduced the game in the country, the concept of central control of the game as was available in England or Australia was never thought of seriously till the end of World War I in 1918. As standard of the game improved in India, the Calcutta Club formed during the days of the British East Company negotiated for a tour of India by an English side. The Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC - now the International Cricket Council) allowed two of the Club's Members to attend the meeting as representatives of India. This facilitated better interaction and led to visit of Marylebone Cricket Club MCC to India. The MCC, under its captain AER Gilligan, played a number of unofficial Tests in India and was greatly impressed by the standard of Indian cricket. In 1927. Mr. Gilligan is believed to have discussed the idea of formation of Cricket control Board for India with Messrs. R E Grant Govan of the Roshanara Club, Delhi, A S de' Mellow and the Maharaja of Patiala. A Provisional Board of Control was formed in December 1927 with its headquarters in Delhi. The said Board was assigned to form territorial associations for popularization of the game. Early in 1928, Messrs. Grant Govan and de’ Mellow went to England to discuss the entry of India into ICC. Nothing tangible resulted. Nevertheless, eight territorial associations were formed at a meeting in Mumbai in December 1928 and a representative Board of Control for Cricket in India was constituted with Mr. R E Grant Govan' as the first President and Mr. A S de’ Mello as the Honorary Secretary.

In 1929 BCCI got affiliated to ICC . International tours were arranged after that . The first one was India's tour of England in 1932.The team was led by CK Nayudu. The first National Cricket Championship was the Ranji Trophy in 1932

Fair use rationale for Image:BCCI logo.svg

Image:BCCI logo.svg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
