The Chicago Slaughter is a team in the Continental Indoor Football League that began play in 2007. They play their home games at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The team was originally intended to be a part of United Indoor Football, but due to a dispute with the league, it changed its course.

The team interviewed William "The Refrigerator" Perry and Steve "Mongo" McMichael from the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl XX championship team for the head coaching position. [1]. McMichael is head coach, while Perry is Director of Football Operations. In the off-season prior to the 2009 season, Super Bowl XX Champions Jim McMahon and Otis Wilson were signed as Quarterback and Linebackers scouts respectively. [2]. All Slaughter home games will be broadcast on Comcast Network 100 in 2009. Their rivals are the Rock River Raptors and Milwaukee Bonecrushers.

History

The Chicago Slaughter and Head Coach Steve McMichael enter their third year of Indoor football with their eyes firmly affixed to the 2009 CIFL Championship.

During the team’s inaugural season, the Slaughter recorded an impressive overall record of 10-4. After going 9-3 in the regular season, the Slaughter went 1-1 in reaching the Divisional Semi-Finals in the league playoffs.

The 2008 season saw the Slaughter suffer a slow start, going 2-3 in their first 5 games. However, the Slaughter rallied around head Coach Steve McMichael and managed to win 6 out of their next 7 games to finish the regular season at 8-4 and win the Western division title. Unfortunately, the Slaughter then suffered a 1st round playoff loss to divisional rival, Rock River, to end their season.

The Slaughter will continue their heated rivalry with the Milwaukee Bonecrushers, and look for a rematch with the Raptors, as they seek to win a Championship.

The 2008 off season saw the Slaughter make some very aggressive moves with the addition of six NFL greats to the Slaughter Coaching Advisory Board and Broadcasting teams. 1985 Super Bowl Champions Jim McMahon, Otis Wilson and Emery Moorehead will be filling positions as special assistants to Coach Mongo to help with recruiting and scouting in the areas of quarterback, linebacker and tight ends.

Former Chicago Bears' great Mickey Pruitt, 1996 Green Bay Packers' Super Bowl Champ Ron Cox and former NY Giants' QB Kent Graham have been added to assist in recruiting as well -- Graham will help out at the QB position, and Cox and Pruitt will assist in the recruitment and scouting of linebackers.

The Slaughter will play 12 regular season games as members of the Western Division which began in March.

Entering the 2009 season, the Chicago Slaughter took full advantage of the Arena Football League taking the year off. The Slaughter signed many players from the Chicago Rush and have dominated the CIFL with the Rush's former players.

The Slaughter signed quarterback Russ Michna, wide receivers Reggie Gray and 2008 AFL and 2007 af2 Rookie of the Year Donovan Morgan, defensive back/linebacker DeJuan Alfonzo and 2008 AFL Defensive Player of the Year Dennison Robinson, defensive lineman Khreem Smith, and running back Nick Consentino, who all played for the Chicago Rush in 2008.

The Slaughter also brought in Bob McMillen as a running backs/offensive coach. McMillen played for the Rush until 2007, when he retired and became the team's running backs coach. He held the record for most career rushing yards and helped lead the Rush to a championship with a win in ArenaBowl XX.
