Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

WETDesign → Fernanda Andrade

  •  Bureaucrat note: User seems to have discontinued editing with this username. If no reply by the weekend, I propose we mark it not done, as the name change is not privacy-related. --Dweller (talk) 11:09, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

bethandrob → Robert Evenden

 Clerk note: Please provide a reason for renaming. -- Sk8er5000 (talk) 04:45, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Are you aware of (and comfortable with) the potential implications associated with using a real name? -- Sk8er5000 (talk) 04:45, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Linczone → DeeGee

Interestedinfairness → Dardani

Fecurt → Frank.e.curtis

Puptonator → I8A4RE

Bureaucrat note: You mention that you'd like a unique username, but "I8A4RE" is similar to the existing username "I8ASHOE". Could you pick a more unique name, preferably one that isn't a seemingly random collection of numbers and letters? EVula // talk // // 16:53, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SkyCaptain → DavidBethune

Zylian → Zylian

  • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and a problem(s) was found. Target username exists, and it has edits, deleted edits, and/or log edits. Requesting user has 1 edit, to this page only. SoxBot (talk) 08:11, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Bureaucrat note: The requested username is the same as your current name, aside from the first letter being in lowercase. Due to technical limitations, usernames must start with an uppercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference. --Dweller (talk) 11:07, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Supreme Deliciousness → Supreme Allah

 Not done Pick a username that wouldn't be grossly offensive to a particular religion. EVula // talk // // 17:37, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: I fully support EVula's decision on this matter. Kingturtle (talk) 20:12, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Clerk note: As do I. –Juliancolton | Talk 20:13, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
admins please, there is nothing insulting about it, Allah means God, nothing else. Many people have Allah: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AListUsers&username=Allah&group=&limit=50 And many people have God: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AListUsers&username=God&group=&limit=50 The fact that you have allowed so many people to have it, and now not me? Is this fair? Please reconsider. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 20:25, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: The argument that the existence of similar usernames indicates that this username should be permitted is a logical fallacy. Also summed up, albeit in an article-related fashion, at WP:OSE. I agree with the decision not to perform this rename; however, my take is kind of the opposite of EVula's: the username would more offensive to those who do not subscribe to a particular religion. Useight (talk) 20:52, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Useight. Calling a god supreme is usually not offensive to people who follow this god but might be to everyone else. Regards SoWhy 21:01, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I never specified which particular religion would be offended, or that there'd be only one offended group. ;) EVula // talk // // 22:23, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I strongly object to approving Supreme Deliciousness's name change to Supreme Allah. This would be grossly offensive and tantamount to blasphemy! --Arab Cowboy (talk) 11:27, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The username would be very offensive to christian or muslim arabs, as it implies that the user sees himself as "Supreme Allah". I don't see why you'd want that username anyway, which would undermine your neutrality in any related discussion. Most of the usernames you referred to have 1-10 edits, you on the other hand would be more involved and pose more problems. --Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 09:29, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cinemalumiere → Cinemalu

I think that perhaps a username entirely different from your current one would be for the best. In addition, please note that your username is a secondary problem; the main one is that you're linking to this site inappropriately, given your username. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 06:49, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IEFPublicAffairs → SimonStoddart

OK thanks for advice. Can I request name change to "EmptyQuarter" instead?IEFPublicAffairs (talk) 13:17, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sardaka → Clytemnestra

Bureaucrat note: Is there another username that you'd prefer? You could try to usurp the account, but that'll take another week, which is hardly an ideal option if you're actively being stalked. EVula // talk // // 22:05, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

M_novakov → Novakoff

Jayherring → JayHerring

Jayherring (talk) 19:42, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done I'm inclined to ignore the "real name" issue here since he's already using his real name. EVula // talk // // 17:30, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shiek → Gargami

The BT Company → Duncan Daniels

Clerk note: Are you aware of (and comfortable with) the potential implications associated with using a real name? King of 05:46, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yes, please change to Bobby Taylor — Preceding unsigned comment added by The BT Company (talkcontribs)

Liguisxack → Arxack
