Keyshia Cole

Keyshia Cole (born Keyshia Miesha Johnson on October 15, 1981)[2] is an American recording artist. She released her platinum selling debut album The Way It Is in June 2005, and her sophomore Platinum album Just Like You in September 2007. Cole's third studio album, A Different Me was released on December 16, 2008. Singles included "Playa Cardz Right" which features rapper 2Pac, "You Complete Me" and "Trust".

Three seasons of her reality show Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is aired on BET from 2006 to 2008. Season Three premiered on Tuesday, November 12, 2008. The season concluded on December 30, 2008. This season showed her in the stage of making A Different Me. She has disclosed that there will not be a fourth season.

Life and career

1981-2003: Early life and career beginnings

Cole has worked on numerous projects over the years. She has appeared on soundtracks for productions such as Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Step Up, and others. She also released her debut platinum album on A&M Records titled The Way It Is, featuring artists Kanye West, Jadakiss, Chink Santana, Metro City and Eve

2004–2005: The Way It Is

In 2004, she attracted the attention of A&M Records executive Ron Fair[3] On November 9, 2004, Keyshia released her first single, "I Changed My Mind", featuring Kanye West followed by "(I Just Want It) To Be Over", "I Should Have Cheated", and "Love". The Way It Is was released in June 2005. It debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, selling 90,000 copies in the first week of release.[4]

2006-2007: Just Like You

Her sophomore album, Just like You, was released in September 2007. It featured the singles "Last Night" with Diddy, "Let It Go" featuring Missy Elliott and Lil' Kim, "I Remember", "Shoulda Let You Go", and "Heaven Sent". Other guest artists included Too Short, Amina, Anthony Hamilton, Young Dro, and T.I.

"Just Like You" debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 300,000 copies in its first week. The album was nominated for four Grammys, Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 2008 Grammy Awards, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song at the 2009 Grammy Awards.

Cole released the first single from her sophomore album titled "Let It Go" released on July 19, 2007, featuring Missy Elliott and Lil Kim. Her second single "Shoulda Let You Go" introduced her best friend Amina. In October, her third single "I Remember" was released on December 5, 2007, and her fourth single "Heaven Sent" followed on March 7, 2008. "Heaven Sent" was #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for nine weeks. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song peaked at #28.

Cole graced the Fall 2007 covers of Sister 2 Sister, Essence, VIBE, Jet, and Dub magazines.

2008–present: A Different Me

In 2008 Cole made guest appearances on songs such as "Boyfriend/Girlfriend" with hip/hop band C-Side on the album Class In Session, and "I Got a Thang for You" with rapper Trina on the album Still Da Baddest. She also made a guest appearance on "She Got Her Own", in the music video of singer's Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx and in the song "Game's Pain" by Compton-based rapper The Game. In 2009, she also make a guest appearance on Keri Hilson's "Get Your Money Up" from her debut album In a Perfect World….

Cole is also featured on the 2008 charity song "Just Stand Up" which raises money for cancer research along with various pop, hip-hop, and R&B artists this year. As a result of SU2C fundraising endeavors, the SU2C scientific advisory committee, overseen by the American Association for Cancer Research was able to award 73.6 million dollars towards novel, groundbreaking cancer research.[5] Cole has also been on tour with Keri Hilson, Lil' Wayne, and T-Pain from December to February. She also toured with Keri Hilson and Bobby Valentino again on The A Different Me Tour with also The-Dream.

She released her third studio album, A Different Me, in December 2008. It debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling 322,000 copies in its first week.[6]

Cole was on the cover of the March 2009 issue of Vibe, and is currently on the Summer 2009 final double-cover issue of King. Keyshia and Yvonne Cole appears on the June issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine. In March 2009, Cole began dating Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers.[7]

She recently released her third single "Trust", a duet with Monica which is currently number seven on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Her fourth single from A Different Me has been confirmed and disclosed that it will be "This is Us" by Imani Entertainment Chairman, Manny Halley.[citation needed] In August 2009, Keyshia Cole announced that she was beginning work on her self-titled fourth studio album which is due by Valentine's Day 2010. The new album is said to contain production from Krucial Keyz, The Runners, Kanye West, and Missy Elliott.[8]

Cole is featued on the remix of R. Kelly's new single "Number One" with T. Pain.

She is currently listed as one of the inspirations for Pepsi: We Inspire.[9]

During an interview on the Chelsea Lately Show, She stated that She would love to tour and record with Her Idols Brandy, and Mary J. Blige. According to Cole, She and Daniel Gibson are in no rush to get married. She is currently writing a lot of new Material for Her fourth studio album to be released by Valentine's Day 2010.

Cole and boyfriend Daniel Gibson are expecting a baby boy in March 2010.

Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is

In conjunction with her album release, BET began airing the second season of Cole's reality show Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is on October 30, 2007. The show premiered to record breaking ratings for BET. It is the top returning series premiere in BET history, as well as the number one original series premiere of the year. A reported 2.9 million viewers and 2.0 million households watched the season 2 finale. It is now the #1 series telecast in BET history.[10] Season 3 of the series was filmed in Summer 2008 and premiered on November 11, 2008. The show was rumored to be having a fourth season, however; Cole has concluded that there will not be a fourth season. On Tuesday, August 25, 2009, Cole's mother and sister debuted their own reality show titled Frankie & Neffe on BET. Their show's season finale aired on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.
