It was released on September 15, 2007 as the lead single of Cyrus' debut album Meet Miley Cyrus by Hollywood Records.

Background

"See You Again", written by Miley Cyrus and produced by Antonina Armato and Tim James, Influences derive from electronic music and New Wave.[1]

The song gave Cyrus her first top ten hit peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her biggest hit from her debut album, Meet Miley Cyrus. "See You Again" also entered top 10 in Australia and was certified Platinum. There are various remixes of the song, including the "Rock Mafia Mix", which was released as a single in the UK and gave Cyrus her first top 20 in that region.

Composition

It is a moderately fast song in a tempo of 139 beats per minute, and in the key of A minor. The song contains an interpolation of Corey Hart's Sunglasses at Night.[2]

Critical reception

Bill Lamb of About.com gave "See You Again" 4.5 out of 5 stars complimenting its upbeat pounding dance-pop beat; Miley's polished, enticing, dramatic vocals; rock edge on the chorus; and Cyrus's personalizing of the lyrics.[3]

Chart performance

The song originally peaked on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles in November 2007 at number twenty-four. The song managed climb slowly to a new peak the following weeks and finally reached the top 20 and started approaching the top 10 in April 2008. After Miley performed the song for Idol Gives Back, the song reached a peak of number ten, earning Cyrus her first top 10 hit, selling over 2,000,000 downloads.[4] The song was remixed for her sophomore album Breakout in 2008 and reached a No. 11 peak in the United Kingdom (it ranked #100 on the 2008 year end chart in the UK).[5] Even though it was released in 2007, it did not chart high until 2008. It became her first top 10 hit in Australia.
