C.I.D. is a series telecasted on Sony Entertainment Television. The series is about a team of detectives belonging to the Crime Investigation Division of the Mumbai Police. It stars Shivaji Satam. The series is regarded as the longest running crime investigation TV series in India. The first investigative series on Indian Television, is today one of the most popular shows on Sony Entertainment Television. ACP Pradyuman, Senior Inspector Abhijeet and Senior Inspector Daya are among the major characters.

In 21 January 1998, Sony Entertainment Television and Fireworks Productions launched a weekly crime thriller called CID. CID set another record on 7 November 2004, when B. P. Singh entered the Guinness Book of World Records for canning an entire episode of CID named "The Inheritance" / C.I.D. 111 in one single shot of 111 minutes (one hour fifty one minutes) without a single cut.

According to an old interview of Mr B.P. Singh, he shot 6 episodes of CID on Doordarshan(DD) in 1986 'even before Sony TV saw its first daylight'.

On 3 January 2005 Sony Entertainment Television and Fireworks Productions launched a daily investigative thriller called CID Special Bureau, which had a run of 168 episodes, and ended on 27 April 2006.

Beginning 7 July 2006 launched a nationwide hunt called "CID Operation Talaash" in search of a new officer to join the CID team, which ended on 1 September 2006. Viivek V. Mashru was declared the winner of the hunt and his character's name is Vivek.

CID is the longest running show in the history of Indian Television. After its success, CID's producers arranged an award function named "CID Gallantry Awards" on Tuesday, 26 January 2010 at 9:00 pm IST on Sony Entertainment Television to celebrate their 12th anniversary.

The CID team currently consists of ACP Pradyuman, Senior Inspector Abhijeet, Senior Inspector Daya, Inspector Fredricks, Inspector Sachin, Sub-Inspector Vivek, Sub-Inspector Tasha, Sub-Inspector Kajal and Forensic Doctors Dr. Salunkhe, Dr. Tarika and Dr. Sonali. The actors – Shivaji Satam, Aditya Srivastava, Dayanand Shetty, Dinesh Phadnis and others, are the pillars of the show.

Even though his memory keeps testing him in many cases, he is considered to be one of the best, intelligent and honest officer in the CID team.He is also the best shooter in CID. Before acting as Abhijeet he also played the role of a villain, 'Paresh' in a 1998 case "The Case of Stolen Gun" and was the criminal who stole ACP's gun. In ACP's abscense Abhijeet is the head of CID and may be promoted as'ACP Abhijeet' if Pradyuman retiers/dies.Abhijeet is said to have the best aim in CID after Pradyuman.
Daya	Senior Inspector	Dayanand Shetty	1998 – Present	Originally joined the team as a Sub-Inspector. He won the award for the best looking guy in Indian Television in 2002. He is also the strongest of all the CID officers and is often asked to break open a locked door or slap the criminal. He and Abhijeet have a strong bonding between themselves, which can be compared as between brothers. One of the smart officers and often risked his life to save Abhijeet, bomb scare or to solve a case. In one of the cases in 2009 he was considered dead after a gunshot but recovered somehow and rejoined CID by the next case.
Fredricks (Freddy)	Inspector	Dinesh Phadnis	1998 – Present	Joined the team as Sub-Inspector.In earlier cases he was better known as Michael. He was serious from 1998-2005. He is a soft-hearted person and is greatly affectionate towards his wife.
Sachin	Inspector	Hrishikesh Pandey	2005–2006 (CID Special Bureau) 2010 – Present (Rejoin)	He rejoined the CID Team (2010-present) in the case "Khooni Deewar" (May 7, 2010). Played the role of 'Inspector Abhimanyu' in CID Special Bureau. In the first case after his return in 2010 he was suspected to be the criminal but he proved CID that he was innocent and represented 'CID Undercover' (a team of detectives, who keep their identity hidden).

Was disallowed to join the team because drugs were found in her bag, of which she didn't had any idea. Later ACP tested the drugs and found that they were not original. She is very clever and has idea that how crimes may have caused.
Kajal	Sub-Inspector	Jasveer Kaur	2010 – Present	Debuted in the case "Maut Ka Aashirwad" (May 14, 2010). At first she was not allowed to join because her brother Anuj was accused to be a criminal but later it was proved that he was innocent. She played roles of criminals before acting as a CID Officer. She was seen in the episode "The Mysterious Gift" (August 4, 2006) and was the murderer of two people. Also acted as a criminal in "Case of the Talking Parrot" (May 25, 2007) and kidnapped Abhijeet, when he was on the trail to catch the criminal.

Other initiatives

CID Special Bureau

'CID Special Bureau' consists of seven officers from different functions and disciplines within the department. Their areas of expertise range from advanced forensic techniques such as ballistics, DNA testing, Carbon dating etc. to graphology and clinical psychology. The fact that they come from different backgrounds enables them to complement each others' strengths in a unique way.

Visual recreation of a crime as the layers of mystery gradually open in the course of investigation, make the show a class apart from other shows in the genre.

Record ("The Inheritance/ C.I.D. 111 " ) Episode

The popular detective series got into both the Limca Book of Records and the Guinness Book of World Records for its record-breaking single shot episode, a feat which director B P Singh feels every "Indian should be proud of because no one has achieved this before." More than a decade ago, in 1987, Singh shot an episode of his Marathi detective series Ek Shunya Shunya in a single take of 22 minutes.

Titled "The Inheritance", this episode is about a hotelier who comes down from South Africa to wind up his business and sort out his inheritance. All his relatives gather at the hotel in the hope of getting a share of his property. A murder takes place amidst them and the owner summons the CID. Just when the CID team thinks it has tracked the killer, two more murders are committed, this time in the presence of the CID thus intensifying the suspense.

This unique episode aired on Sunday, 7 November 2004 at 8:00 pm IST. Shot continuously for 111 minutes, this is a unique attempt and understandably was given a special slot. Starring in Singh's innovative experiment are Avinash Wadhwan and Krutika Desai among others.

CID Operation Talaash

It was a contest held by the CID production team to choose a new candidate for the team. This contest was held in the year 2006 (7 July - 1 September). Many contestants (including celebrities) were tested by the major CID Team - ACP Pradyuman, Abhijeet and Daya. Finally on Sept. 1, they found their winner Vivek V. Mashru who plays the role of Sub-Inspector Vivek.

CID Gallantry Awards

Sony Entertainment Television announced the CID Gallantry Awards, an initiative to encourage and honour acts of bravery in society. The award winners were awarded in the presence of distinguished guests, celebrities in a grand function in Mumbai.

The idea of CID Gallantry Awards is to recognize and honor the feats of people who have performed selfless acts of bravery for the benefit of their fellow citizens and provide a platform to encourage the new generation to be courageous and brave. Many brave deeds go unnoticed and this award become a platform for them. The winner was given Rs. 1 lakh while the runner up received Rs. 50,000.

The jury panel consists of personalities including: Gerson Da Cunha who is an actor, social worker and an author; Aushtosh, managing editor of IBN 7; Shanta Gokhale, writer, translator, cultural critic and theatre historian; and Kavita Karkare, the wife of 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare.

Salman Khan was the special guest of honour in the CID Gallantry Awards. Anu Malik, Kailash Kher, Aditya Srivastav, Shivaji Satam, Daya Shetty, Munisha Khatwani, Kashmira Shah, Manasi Verma, Vaishnavi Dhanraj, Vivek V. Mashru, Alka Verma Karani, Shweta Kawatra, Manav Gohil, Shweta Keswani, Alex O’Neil, Ronit Roy and other TV personalities had graced the ceremony.

The response to the CID Gallantry Awards saw thousands of entries coming in from all over the country, an indication of the popularity of the show CID. There were two categories – Physical Bravery (Bravery to save life or property of oneself or someone else) and Social Bravery (Bravery to combat social evils like drug abuse, dowry, child labour, illiteracy, environmental pollution, etc.). The prestigious title has been conferred to two brave winners each in the category of Below 15 years and Above 15 years

CID undercover

An old episode that focuses on Abhijeet acting like a drug smuggler and an undercover officer. Daya and co. later save abijeet and catch the chief drug smuggler.

CID under fire and Khooni Bhari Holi

CID is trapped and are under fire but they find their way out. In Khooni Bhari Holi , CID investigates of 2 murders under unsual circumstances. Thanks to Abhijeet, they are saved as he acts like an undercover officer.

ACP Giraftaar/Arrested

Sr.Inspector Abhijeet arrests ACP for a murder and firendship with a terrorist . In the interrogation ACP is out of control and Abhijeet shoots ACP.Dr. Salunkhe unhappy with Abhijeet and Co. makes sure that ACP was not the murderer .In the meantime, Vivek, Fredicks and Daya try to pusue Dr to make ACP alive again. Next morning the furious docotr informs that ACP's body was missing and blames it on Daya. Then furious Abhijeet investigates about the terrorist . However, he is one step ahead of CID and they wonder. Abhijeet finds out that Fredicks's wife is the messenger . The CID team rushes to Freddie's house and finds his wife fainted.The terrorist tries to attack a meeting of scientist. Much to Freddie's delight it was ACP who catches the terrorist.Although,terrorst tries to escape but Vivek stops him and ACP, Abhijeet shoot the terrorist and he dies. Then ACP, Abhijeet and Daya reveal the whole plan to Vivek and Co.

Abhijeet In Coma

Story starts with CID and a terrorist gang in an encounter. All the terrorists are killed but even Abhijeet is shot while saving Daya. Daya and Co. are informed that Abhijeet is in a coma. ACP then tells Daya and Co. that it was all a plan to save the Abhijeet's doctor's kidnapped family. Funny notes:- Kajal slaps Vivek

Traitors in CID

A terrorist gang plans to destroy the city. While in ACP's absence Abhijeet, Daya, Fredicks and Muskaan go and try to kill terrorists. However, Muskaan gets kidnapped and CID is blackmailed. They wanted CID to release a big criminal. Daya and Abhijeet join them and act like undercover officers. In the end the terrorist gang is caught and ACP reveals the plan.

Beharupiya

A team of plastic surgeons perform surgery on a man called Rocky to make him exactly look like Abhijeet. Rocky as the fake Abhijeet wanted to kill ACP Pradyuman. Daya figures out that the Abhijeet with them is a unreal, and he tries to tell ACP about it at one time, but the team is convinced that the traitor is in fact Daya. Daya runs from his team members after a chase, making their doubt more real, and saves the real Abhijeet while brings him to the rest of the team and proves Rocky as a false officer. Rocky has ACP at gunpoint, but Daya attacks him, and is shot. Abhijeet then kills Rocky. Then for some time Daya's heartbeat stops and everybody feels that he is dead. It caused very much harm to the emotions of the officers especially ACP Pradyuman, Abhijeet and Fredricks. But then suddenly, in the next episode, Daya opens his eyes and thus showing that he is really made of Iron.

Don's Final Revenge

A terrorist gang headed by a Don plans to destroy CID. The Don was able to copy the voices of all the CID officers. He killed two peoples and thus engaged CID in investigation. During the investigation, CID found that the arms of a body were exactly figured like the time 4:50 in the clock. This episode visualized the debut of Sub-Inspector Divyana and Forensic Doctor Tarika. On the other hand, Dr. Salunkhe also informs ACP that the Forensic Lab was made independent from CID Bureau. He also shows the word ACP written on the two bodies and doubts Pradyuman to be the criminal. Divyana traces the image of Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man and finds that if the image of the body is kept on it then at one side of the diagram there will be two arms but on the other section there would be three hands and thus 2 and 3 gave her the idea that there was something bad going to occur on 23rd August. The CID Team found that on August 23, a statue inauguration ceremony of a doctor was going to be held in the Leonardo Mall. ACP send Daya and Abhijit to investigate at the Mall, where they are called by the don on the Third Floor Bathroom (at the Mall) and he gives them the news that Cop Raj's (in fact the cop was killed by the Don because he helped ACP to arrest him) sister is abducted (in the voice of ACP). Engaging Abhijit and Daya in investigation the Don was able to make a blast in the mall. Don later calls ACP and threatens to destroy the mall unless he gives back Don his drugs. Pradyuman agreed to deliver his drugs. On the other side Abhijeet and Daya were able to save Raj's sister and make their way to save ACP. However ACP was successful to to snatch the gun from the Don but Raj's wife (Shaiyla) helped the Don to escape from the gun point and thus revealing that she was also a part of the terrorist group. On the moment, Abhijit and Daya successfully saved ACP and killed the Don.

Crime target:ACP Pradyuman

The wife of the deceased don (information given above in Don's Final Revenge) plans to take revenge from ACP. She kills an actor after abducting him and she acts as if he were her husband. Meanwhile, ACP saves his friend's son and the news report has a fight with ACP. Then, he receives a call about a murder and goes to investigate. The don's wife acts she is injured and goes to hospital. CID investigates and Don's wife calls ACP alone. When ACP reaches him, he is surprised to see the news reporter. Then he realises that she is kidnapped and he tries to follow her. ACP's car was however trapped and he could not move it. Thanks to the new reporter since he gives his car to ACP. When ACP reaches, he is hit by the rod and he is unconscious. The Don's leftover gang then traps ACP and tries to hang him. Meanwhile, Abhijeet and Co. realise there is something wrong with ACP and quickly saves ACP from hanging. Then, after ACP's medication they find out were this gang lives. Sub inspector Vivek, however finds out the place before rest of his team members. He attacks the gang but is shot in his shoulder which makes him faint. ACP and Co. saves Vivek and kills the remaining members. CID then arrests the don's wife for murder of the actor and assassination attempt on ACP.

CID at ransom

A.C.P's friendly rival Dr. Salunkhe is back but with hair. Dr.Salunkhe arranges a party because he got hair. A.C.P, Dr. Salunkhe, Fredricks and Muskaan reach the party before rest arrive. A.C.P notices some strange movements and experssions on a man called Robin. He then asks Dr to make sure who is that man . When Salunkhe goes the Robin he takes out a gun and traps Salunkhe. Then he removes his jacket and shows grenades. He then handcuffs A.C.P with the door and a grenade in a way that if A.C.P moves or door opens/breaks it will explode. He then demands A.C.P to release his deceased brother Mark who was hanged last week.On the otherhand, Abhijeet, Daya and Vivek go and save Robin's wife Melissa. She then tells Vivek that Robin has short term memory loss and loses his memory time to time. Daya and Muskaan go and attack Robin when he throws grenade. However, Abhijeet stops the grenade. Vivek brings Melissa and Robin's daughter to pursue Robin to surrender. Robin surrenders but he may not be hanged due to his mental condition.

Aakhri Chunauti

An International Don named Hargis Dongaru (HD), sets up a mission to kill ACP Pradyuman and get rid of the entire CID Team. This episode was divided into various (9) parts.

Part 1

Dr. Sonali and Dr. Tarika go shopping but someone spies them. Next day, all the CID officers realize that Dr. Sonali is kidnapped. ACP, Abhijeet and Daya find out it was someone called Karan who kidnapped her. ACP and Abhijeet shot Karan but Dr. Sonali was still missing. At the end of the episode, Fredericks found a CD on his bike. The CD had film showing the abduction of Dr. Sonali and as well as Dr. Tarika. There was a man, who wore a mask looking like Karan's face who was actually in the CD.

Part 2

Story starts with a murder and as ordinary CID is called. ACP asks Abhijeet and Tasha to find out the abducted doctors. On the trail to catch the criminals, they both were trapped and almost killed. The rest of CID was engaged in the murder investigation. ACP was tremendously shocked on knowing that they both were assaulted.

Part 3

Story starts with a present sent to an old businessman his granddaughter's finger. He calls CID and they find out it was his grandson who killed her. The grandson was actually feeling very stressed because of his grandfather, who put many responsibilities on him. He started taking illegal drugs, and the granddaughter found out. She threatened to tell everyone, so he killed her. He then sent the finger to get a ransom and get richer and have more money. Meanwhile, Sub Inspector Kajal's brother Anuj is attacked. Anuj calls Kajal but when she goes in she finds no one. Then she checks the room, but is hit on her head. While she was going, she wrote a code for CID to understand in her blood on the floor after she was hit about where she and other 2 doctors were. Sachin comes in and saves Anuj but all CID officers realize Kajal is kidnapped. In the ending, Kajal is taken to a boat while all CID officers are shocked.

Part 4

With 3 CID members gone, Fredricks worries who will be abducted next, but Daya tells him not to worry as the kidnapper will be caught. While investigating the case of a dead coffee shop owner, Vivek and Freddy go visit and elderly couple for interrogation, but it turns out that the kidnapper was waiting there to abduct both of them. He gassed Fredricks, while Vivek was attacked by a woman who was working for him. Vivek managed to escape, and tried to save Fredricks, but the kidnappers got away. In the end of the episode, the car in which Freddy was being taken was found with a burned body and Fredricks burnt driving license in it.

Part 5

To CID's pleasure, Dr. Salunkhe finds that Freddie's DNA did not match the burnt body. When they don't know it's not Freddie,Daya starts crying. Vivek however was in a deep sorrow because he could not save Freddy. Vivek finds all the kidnapped but is shocked by Freddy's actions. Meanwhile, ACP, Abhijeet and Co. find out Karan(information given on part 1) and the burnt body were released from prison along with 4 others. CID finds out the place and raids it. They chase a man who attacks them and he enters a room. Daya risks going into the room and there is a blast. Next to be trapped is possibly Dr. Salunkhe.

Part 6

Daya comes out of the room, alive but severely wounded. He informs the others that there is a secret passage in the room and the one being chased by them, escaped using the same passage. While the rest of CID was investigating about the kidnappers, they got new case of a girl whose identity is confusing. CID reaches out to one of don's man, but he commits suicide. After the case of a girl CID was thinking about the kidnappers and their movements. The man who kidnapped the CID officers calls ACP told him that his next target will be Dr. Salunkhe. NEXT ACP get known what will be his target. While the CID gang are driving ACP tells Sachin to call Salunkhe and imform him to be careful but then Abhijeet tells Daya to stop the car because he remembers there is a bomb planted under the car and they all quickly flee. CID watches as the car blows up. Salunkhe was driving and he comes across a road in progress then a truck comes and runs over Salunkhes car door and Dr Salunkhe argues with him then the man takes a rod and hits him in the head with it.

Part 7

As Dr. Salunkhe gets kidnapped, ACP Pradyuman and Abhijeet go to the accident spot and try to find out the cause of the accident. Daya manages to find the truck, Sachin and Tasha find out the truck driver Manoj's house where Sachin suspects a man and starts following him who turns out to be Dr. Salunkhe. While following him, Sachin gets kidnapped by some unknown assailants. Tasha finds an envelope and takes it to ACP, Daya and Abhijeet. In that envelope, they find the photographs of the C.I.D officers. Meanwhile ACP Pradyuman goes to save Dr. Salunkhe & Dr. Sonali (who are stuck on a rope), Abhijeet goes to save Dr. Tarika and Vivek (who are tied from a tree in a field) and Daya goes for Sachin and Kajol (who are on a piece of wood that is sliding towards a band saw). ACP Praduyman manages to save Dr. Sonali, but an unkown man shoots the string that Dr. Salunkhe is attached to and he dies. ACP Praduyman is hit with an object that causes him to become unconscious. Abhijeet starts running to save Dr. Tarika and Vivek, but the field gets on fire. He manages to get Vivek, but Tarika falls and burns. Abhijeet gets hit causing him to become unconscious. . Daya is able to untie Kajol and Sachin from the wood. Daya gets hit and becomes unconscious . An unknown man kidnaps ACP Pradyuman, Abhijeet and Daya and ties them together. The girl (from Joseph's house: Part 4) asks the unknown man if he is going to kill the three. He says they are going to kill each other and immediately one of his guys gives Abhijeet the injection. NOTE: Tasha is still in the Bureau.

Part 8

All CID Officers are kidnapped and thrown in the jungle. Nobody remembers anything. Tasha is also found in the jungle which is surprising since she was specifically told by ACP Pradyuman to stay at the bureau. Abhijeet, Daya and ACP are confused. Abhijeet and Daya show guns to each other and also Abhijeet thinks he is a criminal and tries to kill Tasha whom he feels came to catch him as a CID Officer. The unknown person enjoys this full Jungle scene from his Room along with his Gang as cameras are placed in the Jungle. But to his surprise, Tasha somehow helps the ACP, Abhijeet and Daya remember what happened to them prior to their being in the jungle. Tasha is captured by H.D. later. ACP, Abhijeet, and Daya discover a house where all CID officers are trapped in with a bomb. Surprisingly, Dr.Salunkhe and Dr.Tarika who were killed in the last Episode are also seen. Dont know how they came back!! The unknown man kills the girl and other guy of their Gang and their bodies lie in the same room where the rest of the CID officers are trapped. In order to cut the ropes faster of the trapped CID offciers, ACP Pradyuman removes the stabbed Knife from the Dead Girl's Back and gives it to Abhjeet. But he finds a paper with blood in the clenched hands of the dead Girl. All the trapped CID offciers ask ACP, Abhijeet and Daya to get out of the house by the time the bomb blasts because they are the core of CID. But they refuse. Abhijeet in order to grt ACP out of the danger hoys says to ACP that if he did not go out of the house then he will shoot himself, Daya forces ACP to go out of the house and goes inside and closes the Door saying a word "Sorry Sir". As he goes inside the whole house is blewed up by the bomb. ACP Pradyuman feels very bad and sorry for this. He falls on the ground in tears and huge disappointment that he couldnt help his mates and burns in anger. But suddenly he remembers the paper which he found in the clenched hands of the dead girl. He opens that paper and finds the photo of H.D along with Paris on it. So, he gets a clue that H.D is in Paris. In anger of revenge, ACP sets himself on a mission to go to Paris to kill H.D.

But at the end of the episode and the small layouts of the next episode, few scenes show ACP is in Paris and to the good of all Fans, Abhijeet and Daya are also alive and now in Paris chasing H.D :)
