Help! I've been blocked and I don't know why!!

This blocked user's request to have autoblock on their IP address lifted has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request.

Block message:

This IP range is blocked to prevent vandalism. Bona fide users should please request unblocking and checking for "IP block exemption" -- apologies for the disruption, and thank you for understanding.

Decline reason: Due to your lack of mainspace edits, I don't think I can trust you with IP block exemption. I'll mention it to FT2, though. Mangojuicetalk 13:29, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well checked, but unlikely to be a problem. Thanks for checking, Mango -- and yes, IPBE is probably appropriate :) FT2 (Talk | email) 13:46, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IP Block Exemption

IP block exempt

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit the English Wikipedia through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions. Inappropriate usage of this user right may result in revocation. I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. ~~~~ FT2 (Talk | email) 13:46, 19 March 2009 (UTC) Thank you for this. Please can you explain what Mango meant by "lack of mainspace edits"? I don't feel that my knowledge extends to editing pages yet!--TammyMoet (talk) 14:10, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

re.

Don't worry about it, the same thing happened to me (see my archives). If someone gets blocked for vandalism, their account is checkusered to see what computer IP that account came from, and to see what other Wikipedia accounts run from that IP. Whoever did that vandalism on your computer [I'm sure it wasn't you] got blocked, and they checkusered that IP and your account came up. There's no need to worry about it now it's over. And about Mango's "not enough mainspace edits" - if you have more editing experience, people will trust you more. Ease yourself in gently - maybe start off with fixing things in articles about things that interest you, then maybe try help clearing WP:BACKLOG - not everybody has to make big, magnificent edits and have ten million FAs to their name. I certainly don't. ;) You can also fight vandalism - that's really helpful. Then, maybe once you have a thousand or so edits, apply for rollback, which really helps revert vandalism. Don't feel rushed, take things at your own pace, at your own time. After all, everybody has to start somewhere. ;) Queenie 18:16, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re blocks

I noticed your block a while ago while looking at the list of unblock requests but wasn't sure what to do about it (hey, even us admins don't know everything ☺). One thing Queenie didn't mention was that what you were caught by was what's known as a "rangeblock". Under some circumstances a whole range of IP addresses may be blocked - sometimes (as in your case) bona fide editors who happen to be in that range are blocked as they just happen to be in the range that's blocked. This is known around here as collateral damage. This in no way reflects on you, and will have nothing to do with edits made on your computer, or by your account. Queenie's giving you good advice above, so I'll bow out - give me a shout on my talkpage if you want. Cheers, Tonywalton Talk 00:19, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Many apologies for having to ask this again, but we had to reboot the server and it appears that our IP address is part of a blocked range. We suspect that it's because our ISP is Tiscali. --TammyMoet (talk) 19:47, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've reset (I hope) your IP Block exemption (I hope). so

Thank you very much! I worried about what I could have used instead of "English" last night, but came to the conclusion that, because I didn't have any evidence when I posted that it wasn't English, then English was appropriate. Bless you! --TammyMoet (talk) 11:34, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Because I myself work in period-specific translations for an archive, I deal a lot with nomenclature of warring sides and related matters of POV and the often-ridiculed political correctness. Besides, I appreciate when editors come back and clarify, something I do too. I wish this were a practice more honored in the commission than the breach – not to mention editors whom I wish would think before they posted...! -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 12:48, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ref desk trolling

The "dando" "question" is a clear ref to the murder of Jill Dando. I've left a note at WT:RD - as I'm not sure of the best course of action in this case, you might want to take a look. Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:56, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. I'd not clicked that one, but I was going to put something on the RD because I had my suspicions about this one. --TammyMoet (talk) 18:05, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I do apologise, my laptop's been playing up terribly recently and I wonder if it has anything to do with that? --TammyMoet (talk) 10:46, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No offence intended

My question at Ref Desk Humanities was not made with the intention of offending British editors, especially those who had relations who served in the British Armed Forces during WWII. Reading your comment, it appears your father had fought in the war. I apologise if my question and comments regarding Churchill caused offence. They were directed solely against Churchill, not against the RAF, other branches of the British military, or British civilians who lost their lives in the Luftwaffe aerial bombings.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 07:50, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, my father was in the RAF. My family were victims of the Coventry Blitz. So I guess the subject is a bit of a "red rag" to me! I'm not offended by it, but the other thing you must remember is that Churchill did not fight the war single-handedly. I have heard (and there is more public support for) that Bomber Harris, whose idea it was to bomb Dresden into submission, should have been the one on trial, and personally I would not argue with that. So if you want to put Churchill on trial, you should be looking really at putting everyone else responsible for those raids on trial - even those who were "only following orders", just as happened at Nuremberg. --TammyMoet (talk) 09:51, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry about your family having been victims at Coventry. It's easy to let emotion get in the way as to me both world wars were a carnage and slaughter that could have been avoided. As a fighting unit, the RAF were definitely superior to the Luftwaffe, and the film, The Battle of Britain always brings tears to my eyes. The problem with wars is that the financiers and politicians who make the wars in the first place stay home and the normal people go out and fight and die. The politicians eventually make peace but for the grieving there is no peace. I suppose you are right about Bomber Harris having been the culprit. Once again, I'm sorry I brought up painful memories for you by my question.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 11:25, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can I just say that I meant my remark about your remark to be light. I had no problem with your aside about a tie. Keep up the wit and wisdom. Best to you. Richard Avery (talk) 21:32, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Law & Order SVU SEASON 9 EPISODE UNDERCOVER

Hello, my name's Sean. How are you doing? I'm new to wikipedia. Is it okay for me to post this message on your wikipedia talk page? Have you seen the Episode called Undercover?

In the Episode Undercover, Lowell Harris is trying to rape Olivia, but Fin manages to save Olivia's life. Fin manages to arrest Harris. In the Interrogation room, Harris's Defense Attorney shows up.

Olivia says, "Harris tried to rape me."

Harris lies, "I wasn't trying to rape Olivia." Does Harris's Defense Attorney believe that Harris was trying to rape Olivia? Since I think that Harris's Defense Attorney is evil, I also think that Harris gave a lot of money to his Defense Attorney. Is Harris's Defense Attorney evil? Did Harris give a lot of money to his Defense Attorney? Does Harris's Defense Attorney want to show fake evidence proving that Harris wasn't trying to rape Olivia?(Sean Archer123 (talk) 07:18, 20 September 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

I don't watch Law and Order. You should post this question on the Entertainment reference desk where you might find someone who can answer your query, or perhaps there is an online forum where such things are discussed.--TammyMoet (talk) 08:07, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
