Revision as of 15:31, 20 October 2011
Please submit error reports only for content that is currently or will imminently appear on the Main Page. For general discussion about the Main Page, kindly use its talk page. |
National variations of the English language have been extensively discussed previously:
|
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 19:27 on 11 October 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

...taking control of the city. - do you not mean country? Or maybe even better: effectively ending the 2011 Libyan Civil War. 131.251.252.74 (talk) 15:31, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- Dan Wheldon
Why are we including the name of the competition sponsors? We don't do this for any other sports items. Please remove 'IZOD' from the blurb. Modest Genius talk 19:16, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
- Lord's Resistance Army
Perhaps a better word would be "deploys," rather than "sends," since the blurb doesn't say anything about where the troops are going. Yes, it's implied, but to me saying something is sent somewhere requires the explicit mention of where it's being sent. Or maybe it's just me. C628 (talk) 22:39, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- Um... what? I don't see the distinction between "deploy" and "send" you're talking about. Regardless, the blurb does say where the troops are going. Is "central Africa" not specific enough for you? -- tariqabjotu 23:54, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- I mean that it says central Africa is where the Lord's Resistance Army is located, but it doesn't say explicitly that that's where the troops are are going, hence the implied bit...to me, deploy is a more general verb, whereas send requires an origin and destination to me made clear...anyway, it really doesn't matter, just me being pedantic. C628 (talk) 01:37, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- Saying they are armed incorrectly implies that these are combat troops. These guys are first and foremost advisers.[1] There was also hardly a consensus to post this. I would suggest removal. Marcus Qwertyus 06:55, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- Removed armed; I agree this should be removed, but I have a conflict of interest as can be seen. — Joseph Fox 17:41, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
