Redirect Problem

Sorry, I don't know how to fix this, but the Viveca Paulin link redirects back to this page, as does a search for Viveca Paulin in wikipedia at large. 216.98.233.245 (talk) 08:40, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This:

"Ferrell's performance in STF introduced audiences to a more serious side of Ferrell's acting talents that hopefully will continue."

Is definately not acceptable. I am changing it.[;[;[;[;[;oiokiokokjoijkijkijuhiinhjuihnjiuojiojnmhiujnminmjhi -- Ubergenius 21:46, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

==WILL FERRAL IS AWSOME HE SO WANTED TO PUNCH JUSTIN BEIBER IN THE FACE OH YEAH JUSTIN BEIBER YOUR A FAG U R THE MOST STUPIDIST AND RETARTED BOY I HAVE EVER KNOW AND WAIT I WANT TO KNOW HAVE U HIT PUBERTY YET CAUSE UR VOICE SOUNDS LIKE A GIRLS VOICE I see someone decided to revert my changes, but I think it would be pertinent to list that he is the funniest man alive, I mean in all honesty, it is the truth and therefore belongs on an encyclopedia entry.

May god help us all if Will Ferrell is the funniest man alive. I've always been of the opinion that he's the unfunniest man in America (if not the world). --Roger Williams 03:40, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

He's not even the funniest man that's been on SNL in recent years much the funniest alive. -- Matt

Let's call him the most ignorant man alive instead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.193.97.7 (talk) 05:44, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Death

World-renowned Actor Will Ferrell died today in a hospital in Hollywood, Cali.. Doctors are still unsure of what exactly caused the death, but believe it was due to complications after Will Ferrell ran too fast and suffered pains in his heart. He was 47 years old. Will Ferrell was a brave person, who enjoyed everything about life. He was known for his passion for acting classes, which he often did 2 times a day. He loved to share acting classes with everyone, and would even offer acting classes to strangers. Will Ferrell also enjoyed traveling, especially to historical landmarks, and loved meeting people around the world. On his trip to Paris, France he even met the president (and yes, he offered him acting classes). After meeting him, Will Ferrell said the President was very nice. Will Ferrell is survived by his partner Viveca Paulin, their 2 children, and their pet dog named Fluffy.

Will Ferrell Plays the Flute

Is it true that Ferrell really does play flute or did in his youth? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.25.71.165 (talk) 03:53, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suitcase of money story?

I thought I read that Ferrell came to the interview with the suitcase of fake money but didn't get a chance to do the bit before Lorne approved him. Can anyone verify this or provide a source for the original story?

He told that story to Teri Gross on Fresh Air. He tried 2 or 3 times to give Lorne Michaels the fake money. this might be the interview SteveLetwin 15:45, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Animated GIF

I'm somewhat new to the community, so I'm not aware how common this is, but it seems inappropriate to have an animated GIF on a main article page (I'm referring to the cowbell image). Perhaps this would be better as a linked item. Then again, maybe I'm confusing unattractive with inappropriate. Any thoughts?

It may be inappropriate as an encyclopedic entry, but it's gotta stay because it's so freakin' hysterical.

Delete the .gif. It's highly inappropriate for an encyclopedia, as even its supporters apparently admit. Croctotheface 06:45, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images

I completely reworked the images, as the ones that were there did absolutely nothing to illustrate ferrell, as in all of them, he was impersonating somebody (except for the Ron Burgandy one, but in that role, too, he was heavilly dressed up, and Burgandy doesn't look a thing like him.) Karrmann 16:04, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am removing the Talladega Nights movie poster image from this page, as the current usage clearly does not qualify for fair use as it is not being used to illustrate the movie in question or to provide critical analysis of the poster content or artwork. If anyone disagrees, please respond. -Big Smooth 23:34, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The one that appears first of his attendance at the tallidaga nights premiur, can we not stretch it or find a bigger/better picture. It looks really bad on my monitor. A lot of artifacts from slightly stretching it. it's likely my LCD which temporally dithers creatign slightly mismatching colors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.75.33.118 (talk) 04:38, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ok ok ok. you should probably learn how to spell talladega and also the word premier. come on if you're posting to a public site at least take the time to at least google the words you do not know and i think all of the images that portray Ferrell are accurate being they coem from his career. Therefore stating, this should not be an issue because his career is being celebrated by the postings. Oscar

Shouls we mention that there's rumours of Will Ferrell been a candidate for best actor in the 2007 Oscars for Stranger than Fiction.User:alfredosolis

No. Rumors do not belong in an encyclopedia. If you maybe want to mention "oscar-worthy performance" under his mention of STF, that MIGHT be acceptable, but I'm still iffy on that, too. -- Ubergenius 21:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia removed

I noticed someone removed this: "Howard Stern quizzed Borat and claims that Will Ferrell is Jewish" Well, Howard didn't say Ferrell was Jewish. In fact, he said he was not Jewish, though he would have thought that he would be because he's a comedian. I think it's pointless trivia at best, not really worth including Mad Jack 19:45, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer?

It is rumored that Ferrell is considering the lead role in a film to be based on an old Phil Hartman sketch from SNL. The project's working title is said to be "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer: the Motion Picture." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.167.49.46 (talk) 00:09, 7 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Filmography/Notable Films

I was wondering if there should be more roles he's played at the top of the page in the "Notable Films" section. I believe that there should be more about his earlier films in the biographical section (main section).Dougmuffins 02:42, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Famous Ferrell Quotes

This section looks unencyclopedic to me. The choice of quotes are subjective (and why only from Anchorman?) and some of the lines weren't even spoken by Ferrel's character. Anyone mind if I removed the section? AntiuserX 22:40, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Already took care of it. Moved it into wikiquote.
Drewcifer3000 04:06, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Roles

I think we should once and for all figure out what constitutes a "Notable Role," since there seems to be a lot of editing and reverting for that one little section of the infobox.

My personal opinion is that a notable role should be one of the following:

First role as main character (ie Buddy from Elf)
First substantial role (ie Frank from Old School)
Any roles which earned major awards such as an Oscar (none so far, as far as I know).
First role in a vehicle film (that is a film devised/planned around the actor's personality or popularity) (ie Ron Burgundy from Anchorman)

Therefore, I think only those three roles (so far) should be included, but that's just my own opinion.

I'll post a comment in the article referencing this discussion topic.
--Drewcifer3000 01:28, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with those criteria and selections. It should stay as is, unless, say Talladega Nights becomes more popular, in which case it would be more notable than a first starring role or first substantial role as all movies that fit under your fourth category are the most notable. JesseRafe 07:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you forgetting the amazing box office sucess of Talladega Nights, it's Will's more sucessful film and it should be included in Will's notable roles section. Also he was first known for his characters in SNL.User:R.Bobby

Definetly Saturday Night Live.

Don't forget the critical sucess of Stranger Than Fiction(Golden Globe nomination).

Will Ferrell's is a case where he was a very funny sketch comedian on SNL, but has yet to make even one decent movie. NO notable film roles so far.

When did he leave SNL?

Seems like an important bit of info, can't find anything though
--WNW3, 14:29, 23 January 2007

I believe he left SNL in 2004 around when he starred in alot more movies. That is the reason why many leave SNL, To pursue a movie career just like Jimmy Fallon tried to do.

Place of birth

It seems that the claim that he was born in Newport Beach, CA seems unfounded and arbitrary. I feel there needs to be a citation for it. (He's listed in the Irvine, CA article as having come from there, and isn't mentioned in the Newport Beach, CA article at all). President Rhapsody 03:25, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pyloric stenosis

In an interview on [Blades of Glory - Interview with Will Ferrell & Jon Hede] Will Ferrell admits that the scar on his stomach was due to an operation when he was a baby for pyloric stenosis which caused projectile vomiting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.219.80.169 (talk) 04:10, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism

Will Ferrell is known to steal humor from other comedians. We should add a criticism page, as most people do consider his humor to be bland and untalented. OfficerPhil 20:12, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is a very successful comedian, so I would disagree with saying "most people" find him bland or untalented. As far as I know, every movie he's done (as of late at least) has been fairly successful. However, as with anything on Wikipedia, if you can find A RELIABLE SOURCE to reference such sentiments then it might have a place in the article. Otherwise, keep you opinions to yourself, as they have no place in the article proper.Drewcifer3000 20:35, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So? Carlos Mencia is very successful, and everyone knows he steals jokes. Will Ferrell is also destroying the comedy genre of the cinema. OfficerPhil 17:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, that is your opinion, and that's fine. Opinion has no place in Wikpedia unless it is from a reputable source, is referenced, and is explicitly stated as opinion or accusations within the article. Find a reliable source and it might have a place in the article. The Carlos Mencia article has at least 3 articles concerning criticisms of his originality. Find similarly reliable sources, then we'll talk.Drewcifer3000 20:06, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He wasn't even (close to) the funniest guy on SNL...perhaps even not the funniest guy during his tenure, and he was there after the show peaked! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.80.1.153 (talk) 17:44, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Austin Powers

" In The Producers, Ferrel's character, Franz, shouts "I broke my other leg!", a nod at his Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery character, Mustafa."

Considering that the line is present in the original Broadway show (which Ferrell was not involved with in any way), I consider this to be false and have deleted it.

Fair use rationale for Image:Cowbell2.jpg

Image:Cowbell2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:30, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Meeting Bush

The article currently implies that Ferrell has never met Bush. While he may have declined to meet him on several occasions, he stated on Fresh Air (November 2006) that he met him during the 2000 campaign. Bush didn't seem to recognize him, he said. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.245.42.233 (talk) 06:01, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All his characters are EXACTLY the same

I think this should be mentioned, in every one of his last 5 or so films he has more or less played the same guy in a different outfit or scenario...

personally I think the "character" is much more stupid than funny, but I guess that is besides the point...

anyway you can't really argue that it's not the same character, just a thought —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.120.182.253 (talk) 03:31, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is the same approach, and the same type of character. But I don't think it is fair to say he plays the same role every time (perhaps to say he has a narrow range). For example, the Elf character is very different from his role in Anchor Man. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.147.110.167 (talk) 03:14, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How can you say that? None of his characters are the same. Are you honestly trying to assert that Ron Burgundy and Ricky Bobby are the same personality? Can you truly claim Phil Weston is EXACTLY the same as Brennan Huff. You should be ashamed of yourself; making sweeping statements that have no basis in fact or reality. NotWillFerrell (talk) 16:12, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The characters themselves are different but yes they are the same type of character. It's like how Adam Sandler always plays a lovable loser, Will Ferrell always plays an ignorant man-child. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.3.87.177 (talk) 00:04, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
