[1] Wasseypur was once in Bengal, then in Bihar and is now part of Dhanbad in Jharkhand.[2] Wasseypur, just two kilometres from Dhanbad station, is about 165 km from state capital Ranchi.[3] Naya Bazaar, Wasseypur is a Muslim-dominated area with a total population of around 2 lakh , divided in five municipal wards.[4] Most of the people in area work in administrative capacities.[5] Ray Talkies is the closest theatre to Wasseypur.[6] The names of rival dons Sabir Alam and Fahim Khan, lords of two mafia families are not associated with Wasseypur.[7][8][9] Though out on bail after spending eight years in jail, Sabir Alam rarely stays at home due to the threat to his life.[10] Fahim Khan, who is still alive and in the Hazaribagh jail currently,is son of Shafi Khan,who had a rivalry with Surya Dev Singh.[11] The foundation of Wasseypur was laid by the two brothers - late M A Wassey Sahab and M A Jabbar Sahab in 1955-56.
