The "Drought Is Over" Mixtape Series? I have finally got a hold of all the official copies of the "The Drought Is Over" mixtape series hosted by The Empire and Lil Wayne. Can I have permission to put them under the mixtape section and create a new page for each of them. I have the correct track listing and song titles. I also have the original artwork for it. I can also post reviews from websites for some of them. [[User:DroKIDCASH|DroKIDCASH]] ([[User talk:DroKIDCASH|talk]]) 01:13, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Interview with Katie Couric

Katie Couric interviewed Wayne on Wednesday night's Grammy special on CBS television. The interview contains some good info to expand the section on Wayne's early life. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 00:45, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

UNRELIABLE SOURCE!

Nope. YouTube is not a reliable source, and videos from youtube cannot be used as sources.—Kww(talk) 16:44, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly what's the difference if YouTube or MTV uploads a video. It's still the ARTIST themselves saying the information. SE KinG. User page. Talk. 17:03, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You can trust MTV not to doctor the video and audio to misrepresent the interview. The same cannot be said about anonymous YouTube posters.—Kww(talk) 03:23, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If I may - I do not think it is an issue - and I think no matter what site uploads it it's the interview that counts. It is like saying a documentary posted on youtube is not a documentary at all. I honestly don't see the conflict in this argument.Babylonian Armor (talk) 14:04, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly ... a documentary posted by an anonymous uploader on YouTube can't be treated as a documentary at all. There needs to be credibility and reliablity in the publishing chain, or the source isn't reliable.—Kww(talk) 14:22, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now that is just nonsense. It sounds like now you are simply biased and unfavorable towards YouTube. If it is the artist speaking, word for word, mouth per mouth, the exact words heard, it can't possibly be fake. If there was any altercations by the uploader, it would be somewhat to completely obvious. Osh33m (talk) 21:03, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

introductory paragraph thingie..

As mentioned in one of the older posts, i think the introduction of lil'wayne is quite poor. Can someone make it contain his award winnings, his funny style of lyrics and voice, aswell as him being the rapper with most released mixtapes (not sure on this)and one of the leading rapper in this new generation of rappers, and one of the most succecfull rappers/one of the most selling records in the last couple of years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oozeling (talkcontribs) 23:30, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2008's Best Album?

"Following Tha Carter III's achievement of selling over 3 million copies, becoming 2008's best record, Wayne re-signed with Cash Money Records for a multi-album deal."

That needs to be changed to 'best-selling record'. It currently looks as though it's been written by a fanboy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Poet LeSwung (talkcontribs) 21:21, 4 June 2009 (UTC) and what does that have to do with the subject? Rock?

The classification of Lil Wayne as a rock artist is sketchy at best. Listening to these new "rock" songs, you realize that all he's really done is replace a synth line with a guitar line. The drums are also louder than the guitar (Traditionally rock is more centered on the guitar, with the drums providing rhythm.) To legitimately be called a rock album, there would need to be a lead guitar in the songs, not the sole rhythm guitar that is featured in Prom Queen. Even the "solos" are obviously just reworked synth parts. The relative lack of guitar in Hot Revolver is also questionable. At one point the normal drums are even abandoned for a traditional hip hop drum loop. Classifying Lil Wayne as a rock artist because of this album would require a re-evaluation of what rock is, and would probably require the addition of acts such as Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys to the growing catalog of "rock artists." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.251.170.19 (talk) 21:25, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i would also add that rock shouldn't be in his list of music genres. Smokiewight (talk) 04:44, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SI

While dont I agree that Rebirth is a little less than most "Rock albums" out there, I'd have to agree with placing "rock" as a genre he does. "Rebirth" has been mentioned as a rock album in almost every publication that mentions it, therefore even if it's something less than say a Red Hot Chili Peppers album it still deserves it's title as a rock album. Deathawk (talk) 00:55, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

releasing a "rock" album don't make you a rock artist.Smokiewight (talk) 05:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just cuz the media says some band or artist is a certain genre, it isnt nessecerily true... e.g. when the media says pop-punk bands are emo, which they obviously aren't... just cuz you write articles for a magazine or sutch, it doesn't make you capable of dictating which genre is what... the reason the media has said his latest album is rock, is because theese articles has been written by hip-hoppers, who doesn't know shit about what rock actually is... if you can find one single rock-magazine which says the album is rock, then it IS rock... sorry about my bad english...--Arneandre (talk) 21:41, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ghostwriting

I've read on several websites that Wayne has had (and still has) ghostwriters (people who write songs for him). These ghostwrites include Gillie the Kid, Drake and possibly more. I can't find any reliable sources, though. Here are some of the sites where I've gotten this: #1 and #2. I had another one, but the site was apparently on Wikipedia's blacklist.

Maybe there should be a section on that if anyone finds reliable sources?

Guitar

Continued from above, the guy can't play guitar. I've seen him live and while he's not great, he can still play much better than alot of artists, so it should be left alone on his paege that he can play, because he can. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Censor3000 (talkcontribs) 10:10, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You both need to remain civil with each other. The instrument and occupation fields of the infobox are intended for the subject's notable skills/occupations. Lil Wayne gained fame through his rapping, and not his guitar playing, so the "instrument" field should say "Vocals" and nothing else. Similarly, while he is notable for being a rapper and CEO, he is not notable for playing guitar, so the "occupation" field should say "Rapper, CEO" and nothing else. He probably plays some other instruments (as most musicians do), but we shouldn't be listing them. GlassCobra 15:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One question, How an am being uncivil??? And in the recording of Rebirth Lil Wayne played Gutair for alot of the songs. For example: On Fire, Prom Queen and Knockout. But i get what your saying that he is not known for his gutair playing. STAT -Verse 19:09, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lil wayne collabrate many times with rapper Game

Gang affiliations

Saying that someone is affiliated with a gang is a serious accusation and could be seen as libelous if incorrect, especially on a BLP. So the evidence that this rapper is in fact associated with a gang requires above-average, exceptionally reliable proof. Let's take a look at the sources that have been attempted to be used to back up this assertion:

  • [1] - not a reliable source; further, Lil Wayne is criticized by another rapper for pretending to be affiliated with a gang; if anything, this source would make the case against Lil Wayne being a Blood
  • [2] - a copyright violation and therefore unable to be used; further, Lil Wayne does not actually say he is a member of any gang in the video
  • [3] - "Lil Wayne’s clothing, hand gestures in music videos and rap lyrics all suggest" - this is original research, not to mention that the source is far from reliable
  • [4] - not a reliable source, also says "Lil Wayne and Birdman and their alleged Blood ties" (again OR), again criticizes Lil Wayne for pretending
  • [5] - not a reliable source, no mention of gang ties
  • [6] - explicitly says that gang sign being performed by Lil Wayne is part of a PR campaign for his career

This sources are not sufficient to support the claim that Lil Wayne is a member of any gang. Per WP:V and WP:RS, the burden of proof is on the users trying to add material, an onus that has not been fulfilled here. The edit warring over this issue needs to cease immediately. GlassCobra 19:15, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well of note Streetgangs.com is very reliable for info about gangs. Not to add orgional research but he has said in over 300 songs "Blood Gang Motherfukker" or something of that. He has made alot of songs and mixtapes with titles refering to his gang ties including "Everything is Red" and the mixtape "Blood Is Thicker Than Water 12" with him posing with fellow blood Game posing wearing only red the color of the bloods picture here Also he titled his song Hustler Muzik instead of Hustler Music because bloods don't use c's when spelling muzik. STAT -Verse 22:01, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

he is NOT a blood!sheesh,you're gullible. Smokiewight (talk) 06:02, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just cause you don't like Lil Wayne doesn't mean you have to ruin wikipedia by adding origion research to everything. STAT -Verse 19:00, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing about like him or not needs to be involved. At most, these sources add up to "Lil Wayne uses Bloods symbology in his marketing."—Kww(talk) 20:05, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I agree with Kww, that should be added instead of making an outright claim that he is in the bloods. STAT -Verse 20:11, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

i don't hate him or like him.i don't even know him.but, you can't prove he's a blood any more than i can prove he isn't.you, however pretty much DID make an outright claim he is.and btw,it was an observation, not an attack.if you can't handle an opinion about yourself, don't log on.i respect your opinion, bro.just respect mine.no hard feelings.blessings. Smokiewight (talk) 04:32, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well im changing my mind that it SHOULDN'T be an outright claim and include in the article "Lil Wayne uses Bloods symbology in his marketing" cause whether anybody likes it or not he does use it. STAT -Verse 22:44, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

but, whether he uses it or doesn't isn't the issue.is there any truth to the fact he is one? so far,not one person has been able to provide iron clad proof, just like i can't provide proof he isn't one. Smokiewight (talk) 03:51, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it notable to have this section? He may have been referenced many times but I don't think a reference from the President is worthy enough to have a section of its own. --Esanchez(Talk 2 me or Sign here) 23:24, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree - Obama's the current commander in chief of the country, and to have him publicly stating that he keeps Lil Wayne on his iPod not only gives a bit of insight into his personal life (which admittedly, might belong on Obama's page, though it would look even more out of place there) is relevant, and certainly is indicative of the extent of Lil Wayne's appeal.

The gun possession charge

In the section about the NY gun possession charge, it states that the gun was found "on his person", only to state later: "police discovered a .40 caliber pistol on his person. The gun, which was registered to his manager, was in a bag located near the rapper." This is obviously a discrepancy, and further, New York State's gun laws are such that the difference between finding it on his person and finding it in a bag "near" the rapper is the difference between a relatively low-level "attempted possession of a weapon" charge, and a potential 25-year sentence for actually having a concealed weapon. If you check the link, it specifies that the gun was found in a bag "near" him, and while it did end up being linked to him, that's the reason he was out of prison in November rather than still being there now (with potentially years to go on his sentence). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skabbonica (talkcontribs) 16:23, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{edit semi-protected}} In the section titled 2008–present: Rebirth, I Am Not a Human Being, and Tha Carter IV there is a sentence that reads:

'Lil Wayne was thought to be releasing an EP entitled I Am Not a Human Being, but it was confirmed that would be a full lenghth LP. The album was released on September 27, 2010 which was his birthday. The album has sold over 250,000 copies in the U.S. and has spawned a successful single in "Right Above It".

In this sentence the word 'length' is spelled incorrectly. Wsb (talk) 05:28, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lil Wayne Sets Guiness World Record

Lil Wayne recently set a World Record when he toppled The Oreo Cookies brand attempt at the same. The record was for the most "likes" to a single FaceBook post within a 24 Hour Time Frame. When Lil Wayne heard about the Oreos record attempt he decided to Compete for the same record. Lil Wayne has a FaceBook fan base over 20 Million Users and it did not take him long to break Oreos record. Nickname

Apparently, "Weezy" is a sufficiently well-known nickname for Lil' Wayne that he used it in the hostname of an official site (weezythanxyou), but the article never explicitly mentions it. It's not an obvious nickname by any means, and I think it would be helpful to fit it in somewhere, possibly even in the article's leader as an a/k/a. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.193.125 (talk) 12:59, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The aka is only for names the artist has officially released music under ex. Diddy: P. Diddy and Puff Daddy. Its just a nickname and not an official stage name so it doesn't earn a mention in the article. STATic message me! 05:16, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request: New $15mil Lawsuit

http://www.nme.com/news/lil-wayne/58495

"Lil Wayne is facing yet another lawsuit after a production company announced plans to sue him for copyright infringement...Georgia-based firm is suing Wayne...for $15 million...ordered to appear in court on October 12....[in] June, Lil Wayne announced plans to retire from music when he reaches the age of 30."

REMOVAL Request: "He is widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers alive, garnering acclaim for his profound lyricism." ??????

I was offended when I read this. There shouldn't be room for this type of opinion in a simple intro paragraph, especially something that in no way can be cited. I am trying to leave my biased opinion about Lil Wayne's "talent" out of this discussion, but in no way is he widely regarded as even a great rapper, and Lil Wayne and lyricism mentioned in the same breath defies all logic.

Sorry but it had to be mentioned... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewhake (talkcontribs) 04:56, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This rapper is a role model for children?

Arrested numerouse times for drugs and guns. Yes henhas money, so what. He is being sued by several record labels for not paying his bills. If he has so much money why can't he pay his bills? He sure has enough money to get his teeth and "grill" fixed." He also has 4 children from 4 different women. Rappers like Lil Wayne will be bankrupt in 5-10 years. They like to spend money on whips and grills. How about buying a belt. He also claims he is a Chrstian, but his lyrics contain profanity and when he speaks at the MTV Music Awards or during some interviews there is also profanity. Become a role model for children and tell them to stay in school. A GED is fine, but a high school diploma is much better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.10.240.23 (talk) 02:37, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: I took a look at the sources, and it looks like the first one is a celebrity gossip site with no real notability to speak of. The second one is actually referencing Lil' Wayne's record label, Universal, staging an "intervention" on Wayne regarding the multiple copyright infringement issues.
