Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

• Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
• Offer a correction if possible.
• References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
• Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 22:25 on 9 August 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
• Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
• Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
• No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
• Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
• Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

• Can we please drop the death toll from the tornado entry until there's some more solid numbers? Multiple sources are now saying the toll may be substantially lower than 91—a number that some sources, such as CBS, had held off on even stating in the first place, opting to stay with the 51 figure, which now might be too high as well. I'd agree, if not for the fact that we've already found the numbers to be unreliable. Normally death toll inaccuracy isn't that much of an issue, since you can just say "at least"; however, in a case where the death toll has been lowered, in my opinion it's better to be more conservative and just not state any death toll at all on our main page, at least for the time being. — PinkAmpers&^{(Je vous invite à me parler)} 13:55, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Official death toll was just lowered in the past half hour to 24 people.[2]. The article does mention that unofficial numbers are at 91, but the OFFICIAL number is 24.50.201.228.200 (talk) 14:08, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Errors in today's or tomorrow's featured picture

• File:M82 HST ACS 2006-14-a-large web.jpg: The file description reads as "A mosaic image taken by..." Here the word "mosaic" doesn't mean the tradition Mosaic is for sure. But then is the word used to mean that the image is stitched? Just curious because the image file doesnt use the Retouched picture template to show what editing is done. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 06:49, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

• The stitching was likely done by NASA, in which case the Retouched picture template would not be needed (it's for Wikipedian-edited images mostly) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:29, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
