Singam II is an upcoming Tamil film directed by Hari, starring Suriya in the title role with Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Vivek and Santhanam in supporting roles.[2] The film is a sequel to Singam (2010). The film, along with a dubbed Telugu version titled Yamudu II, is expected to be released worldwide on June 14, 2013.[3]

Production
Casting
The project features Anushka Shetty and Hansika Motwani as the female leads.[4] Reprising their roles from the original film are Vivek, Vijayakumar, Nassar, and Radha Ravi. Prakash Raj has been left out while actors Rahman, Mukesh Rishi and Santhanam have been added to the franchise. British actor Danny Sapani plays the antagonist.[5] The actress Anjali is also featured in an item number.[6]
Filming
The film has been shot mainly in Kerala, Tuticorin, Chennai, Hyderabad, Malaysia, Tirunelveli and Karaikudi. The director has also filmed some of the important songs, stunts and talkie portions in Durban, Cape Town and Joburg in South Africa as well as Kenya. Primary production began in September 2012 and lasted for seven months. It was wrapped up on April 30, 2013.[7]

Devi Sri Prasad, who had also worked on the score of Singam, returned for Singam II, marking his fourth project with both Suriya and director Hari. Bollywood singer Baba Sehgal had recorded a song in the film following the success of his "Kadhal Vandhale" number from the original.[8][9] The soundtrack was scheduled to be released on June 1st, but got postponed a day to June 2nd.[10][1] Sudeep, who played the protagonist in the Kannada remake of Singam attended the audio launch function, along with celebrities from Kollywood as well.[11]

Release
The film's first look was officially released on 26 January 2013 on Republic Day.[12] An official website was launched in April 2013 and it included a contest where the winner would get to watch a day of filming. The film also gained immense popularity through social networking sites such as Facebook.[13] The theatrical trailer is expected to be released during the film's audio launch on 2 June 2013.[14][15] A 21-sec teaser was released on 16 May 2013 via YouTube. The video received a massive response and reached 1,000,000 views within three days.[10]
