Unnovations
Shouldn't there be a brief mention of his spoof retail catalogue 'unnovations'?
- Wasn't there also an Unnovations web site (on which the book was based)? Or was it part of TVGoHome? Ben Finn 18:53, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Crash
Didn't he start out by sending cartoons to CRASH (magazine)?
Screenwipe grammar
can someone clean up the grammar in the last section on Screen Wipe:
"Brooker's style was funny and caustic, though nonetheless was sincere in his comments"
This is not english. Lets down an otherwise spot on article.
- I've moved that sentence to the Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe article and slightly modified it. Pelago 09:00, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've seen a LOT worse than that on Wikipedia...--MartinUK (talk) 09:34, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Toby cartoons
"Charlie Brooker did a series of (brilliant) one page cartoon strips advertising The Tottenham Court Road Computer Games Exchange which featured in the pages of (amongst others) 'Super Play' a Super Nintendo magazine. Each one was a pastiche of a well known computer game (Mariokart, Street Fighter II etc) and also featured appearences from well known celebrities such as Kylie Minogue & Brett Anderson.
"They built up quite a cult following in their time and perhaps deserve a mention?"
These cartons actually first appeared in Acne, a comic aimed at teenage boys featuring characters such as Blind-Man, Billy Butt and The Swear Bears (possible precursors to Bad Taste Bears?). I have a bunch of them somewhere with Brooker's name clearly visible, next time I have a clearout I shall make a reference to this and also an entry on Acne comic itself. Ginger?
the picture appears to show a ginger charlie brooker. this is a problem as he's not ginger. at all. god knows where this came from. can someone add a non-ginger picture? i'm too stupid.
- having just watched a days worth of clips of screenwipe on youtube i can confirm that he's definitely not ginger. have replaced photo to remove pro-ginger bias. Evilswan 12:17, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Change to Guardian column
Charlie Brooker's 'Supposing...' column has been expanded in the Guardian's latest format change to a full-page section on Mondays, around page 5. I've edited the article to reflect this, referencing with a link to said article online. --Psyk0 13:37, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
A 'non-ginger' picture! - How about a non-profile photo. Can we actually see his face please!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.4.149.112 (talk) 14:54, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Lynx
Is Charlie Brooker really a Lynx as it says? Is there another meaning to this word apart from the big cat?
Also, "Charlie Brooker" is listed on the credits for a pop video of "Balustrades" by the band Drake, which was on a PCPro magazine cover CD in 1994 or so. Does anyone know if this is the same person? The video was written/directed by David McCandless, and I know those two both worked on PC Zone magazine (see [1] ) 81.99.44.170 22:22, 13 April 2007 (UTC) Peter
Personal life
Charlie Brooker lived with the actress Liz May Brice for two years. Is that relevant, seeing as we don't have much personal info on him? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Unwisely (talk • contribs) 17:29, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
This article omits any mention of his family and personal life. His IMDb page does not mention anything either. Liz May Brice's article states that she and Brooker are a couple, but her IMDb page states that they lived (past tense) together. That makes things unclear. Does anyone know whether they are currently a couple? Does anyone know anything else about any other relationships he has had? How about his family? A biography is incomplete without any mention of those important aspects stated. Werdnawerdna (talk) 14:55, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
education
Re: "He did not graduate because his dissertation was written on video games, which was not an acceptable topic"
Sorry, but I was a UK student at the same time as Charlie (tho not the same university) and the dissertation system in those days generally worked as follows: 1) you chose your dissertation topic 2) you had topic approved by the department or a supervisor 3) you write the dissertation, often with a supervisor or advisor to support you 4) you pass or fail on the strength of what you've written 5) some institutions would even let you revise the paper and resubmit!
Short of gross negligence or malpractice on the part of the University, it's inconceivable that Charlie only found out the topic was unacceptable after his dissertation failed. Therefore, he failed to graduate for some other reason.
Although this statement is supported by quotes, I think someone may be joking here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.181.103.146 (talk) 09:22, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Nylon Magazine
Removed section on Nylon magazine that claimed he'd written an article as Peaches Geldof. The citations didn't seem to match up to the claims, and I can't find any evidence for it anywhere on the internet. Almost certainly a hoax... surely? A good one, though. 163.1.236.174 (talk) 05:44, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

[Brooker was] a writer and cartoonist for Oink ....
Is this really true? Oink comic finished in 1988 which means the oldest Brooker could have been was 16. Is he doing a Chris Morris and lying about his age? I must say, he does look a bit older than 38. Decampos (talk) 22:59, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Yes and somewhere I have a copy featuring one of his strips. Yes he really was that young - though the artwork was not incredibly complicated.
You can also find his name in various computer mags of the 80s as a contributor of tips etc. Example Crash! 20 pg 60 from 1985, which would put him at aged 14.78.150.134.12 (talk) 00:58, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm. sounds even more like he's not really born in 1971. Decampos (talk) 23:24, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
Lead image
Is that lead image really worth having. It's less a profile and more a picture of the back of his head? Mtaylor848 (talk) 13:16, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
- Admittedly it's not that good, but I'd say better than nothing. It is recognisably him. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 13:57, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
It's laughably awful. --Mwongozi (talk) 22:20, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Really? Is there NO other image we can use? I reckon the page is better without a picture rather than using this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.108.73.47 (talk) 12:21, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Is there a picture of laurence fishburne that's available for use? Could probably get away with that given that they are remarkably similar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blythy (talk • contribs) 00:28, 12 August 2010
Laurence Fishburne is black, Charlie Brooker is white, some body would easily notice Blast your rage (talk) 07:14, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hee hee, made me laugh, that did. I've tweeted him about it :O) --bodnotbod (talk) 00:55, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
is it just me or does it look weirdly like it was taken by a stalker or during some kind of covert surveilance? 80.65.246.33 (talk) 23:13, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- If you click the image, you'll see that it was taken at the BAFTAs (I thought at first it was a funeral, as he isn't often seen in a suit). --GuillaumeTell 09:01, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Picture
This is just a minor point that I hope will not be met with offence. The current picture of Charlie Brooker is appalling. I don't personally have the expertise to change it, so I am essentially making a plea to anyone who does have the ability and have read this. Please don't think this a joke, I am being serious. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bagpipes1 (talk • contribs) 15:25, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, and many others have said the same. Hence, I have removed the image.
- I searched a few image repositories for something to replace it, but could not find anything suitably licensed. Snappers, get snapping! -- Quiddity (talk) 18:05, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
"To Catch A Predator"
Reference to a "Screenburn" article Brooker wrote has been removed four times now by different editors. Can we make quite clear what the problem with this is;
- The significance of this one article among hundreds isn't explained, and it appears to simply be the opinion of the contributing editor that its notable.
- An article by Brooker can only be described as controversial if a reliable source has stated this. Citing the article itself is not enough.
- The addition significantly misrepresents the article by lifting a quote out of context. The quote is; "When a TV show makes you feel sorry for potential child rapists, you know it's doing something wrong.". The parts in bold there are being omitted to suggest that Brooker is "expressing sympathy for paedophiles".
- This is all original research anyway, no matter how erroneous the conclusion.
- In biographies of living persons the criteria for accuracy, reliability and neutrality is high. This fails on all counts.

Name
Do we have a reference for his full forename being Charlton instead of the more common Charles? --DanielRigal (talk) 22:27, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- The birth index shows Charlton Brooker, Reading, 1971. However, we could do with another ref to verify that it is his birth record. Jim Michael (talk) 18:00, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed that it needs another good reference, but it's definitely correct. It's his Twitter name for one thing. Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 19:10, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Personal Life
I added my fact to this page as part of an assignment for my publishing course module. Have to monitor each stage to see if it is accepted or rejected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TVGeek75 (talk • contribs) 16:44, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- The fact you added may be true and is sourced, but - according to my own subjective judgement - it does not provide useful or relevant information that will assist a reader understanding who Brooker is. See WP:WHIM, merely being true, or even verifiable, does not automatically make something suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. Exok (talk) 18:10, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- This one seems like minor trivia, but if part of your assignment involves adding deliberately false or low-quality statements to Wikipedia to see exactly how they are rejected, you may want to point your teacher at WP:SUP. --McGeddon (talk) 18:20, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
