Linda says sorry but she is taken away by Nana. Banri takes Koko away to the fitting room. He talks briefly with her, telling her to go to his apartment. Banri is depressed. As the party ends, the boss gives out the payment to everyone. While Mitsuo's payment is large, Banri tells him that his salary might have lost its usefulness. Just as Banri runs home, he finds out that Koko has been texting her all day, ranging from going to his apartment to calling the police. Banri is shocked and runs home, finding her there. Koko says that she should become a better girlfriend, saying sorry to what she have done earlier. Banri then says sorry and explains that he was carried by the atmosphere. Koko then gives him the picture of Banri and Linda, much to his suprise. He admits that they were former classmates and he had fell in love with her before. He tells to koko that his feelings for Linda return sometimes. This shocks Koko and she walked to him, hugging him. She says that all she want is for Banri not to remember the past, with Banri understanding. She and Banri then becomes happy once again, just as Koko says that they don't have any memories or pictures. This prompts Banri to ask her if she wants to have a picture, as Banri wanted a picture too. Next morning, he tallks to Linda, with her apologizing to him and Koko. Banri says that he wants to talk with her. Beside the river, he asks if she loved the old Banri, with her replying that she only thought if him as a friend. Banri says that he just wanted to confirm that. He then tries to rip their picture toghether, with the old Banri saying no. He drops the picture. Linda then picks up the picture with Banri standing up telling her to pretend that they were just strangers, as he wants to cut ties with the past. Admitting that Koko is also bothered by her. Linda stands up saying she understand and that are doing the right thing. She then rips the picture into pieces. In the next morning, Koko and Banri are taking a picture toghether, ending the episode.

Golden Time (ゴールデンタイム, Gōruden Taimu) is a Japanese light novel series written by Yuyuko Takemiya, with illustrations by Ēji Komatsu. ASCII Media Works has published ten volumes in the series since September 2010. The series incorporates romantic comedy and supernatural themes.[1] A manga adaptation by Umechazuke began serialization in the October 2011 issue of Dengeki Daioh. A 24-episode anime adaptation by J.C.Staff began airing on MBS on October 3, 2013.

Plot

Banri Tada is a newly admitted student at a private law school in Tokyo. Due to the after-effects of an accidental fall from a bridge shortly after high school graduation, he lost all his memories from before then. At the time of the accident, Banri's soul had escaped from his body, and the "Spirit of Banri Tada" came into being, carrying his memories from before his mishap.

Banri finds himself completely lost after the opening ceremony, trying to find his way to the freshman orientation. At that moment, he runs into another lost freshman from the same school, Mitsuo Yanagisawa, and they hit it off at once. Somehow arriving at their intended goal just on time, there appears in front of them a beautiful girl holding a bouquet of roses, who hits Mitsuo across the face with them and hands the flowers over to him. This stylish, well dressed, and perfect woman is his childhood friend Kōko Kaga. As children, they had promised to marry each other one day, fulfilling their dreams. In order to escape from her, Mitsuo had gone out secretly and taken the examination for this well-known private college, but she also took the law school entrance examination, catching up with him there. She meets Banri Tada and many other new friends. But as her friendship with Banri Tada is increasing, Banri Tada confesses to her, much to her shock. But eventually, she falls for him and they become a couple.

Characters

Banri Tada (多田 万里, Tada Banri)

Banri is the protagonist and is a freshman studying law in a private university in Tokyo. His hometown is in Shizuoka Prefecture, and he now lives alone in a small apartment. The day after his third-year high school graduation ceremony, he fell from a bridge, and now suffers from severe retrograde amnesia, unable to remember anything from before the accident. He missed the college entrance exam and one year of school because of his hospitalization. He later meets Kōko Kaga, and falls in love with her.
Banri's Spirit (万里の霊魂, Banri no Reikon)
Declaring himself to have died at 18 years of age, he is a being seeming to be Banri's spirit. He possesses his memories from his high school graduation and before. Without anybody noticing, he has followed after Banri and has been watching over things.
Kōko Kaga (加賀 香子, Kaga Kōko)
Voiced by: Yui Horie
Kōko is a freshman law student at Banri's university. She is extremely popular among boys, but has little to no friends, due to people being intimidated and scared to talk to her because of her beauty. To all appearances, she is the perfect lady. Since elementary school, she has been obsessed with Mitsuo, her childhood friend. In that time, she made a promise to marry Mitsuo, and ever since had been making her plans so that everything would come out perfect. However, she later falls in love with Banri and they start dating.
Linda (リンダ, Rinda) / Nana Hayashida (林田 奈々, Hayashida Nana)
Voiced by: Ai Kayano
Linda is a second-year student and member of the Japanese Festival Culture Research Society. Leaving out the details, she invites Banri and Kōko to join. She and Banri were best friends in high school, and Banri was in love with her. Although he holds no memory of her, she was the reason he was on the bridge he fell off of, waiting for her to either reject or accept his love with "yes" or "no".
Mitsuo Yanagisawa (柳澤 光央, Yanagisawa Mitsuo)
Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa
Mitsuo is a freshman studying law in the same university as Banri. After the entrance ceremony, heading for freshman orientation, he gets lost on the campus, and meets and befriends Banri. Banri calls him "Yana-san" (ヤナっさん). He has been the target of Kōko's obsessive, one-sided affection since their elementary school years. He secretly took the exam to this university in an attempt to escape from her. He lives alone in an apartment three train stops away from Banri's. Mitsuo has a crush on Chinami and even confessed to her at a party, only to be rejected.
Chinami Oka (岡 千波, Oka Chinami)
Voiced by: Ibuki Kido
Chinami is a short female student, and member of the Film Research Society. She is a voice actress, voicing very young girls. Chinami is the desire of Mitsuo who confessed to her at a party, but she turned him down later saying it "doesn't count as a real confession."
Nijigen (二次元, lit. "2D") / Takaya Satō (佐藤 隆哉, Satō Takaya)
Voiced by: Takahiro Hikami
Nijigen is a freshman and Banri's friend. He gains his nickname at the tea ceremony club's welcoming party after declaring his despair of the three-dimensional world and that he would live for the two-dimensional world from then on. His nickname in high school was "Taka Satō".

Nana is a third-year female student. She plays in a band and acts similarly to the character of the same name in the manga Nana.

Light novels

Golden Time began as a light novel series written by Yuyuko Takemiya, with illustrations by Ēji Komatsu. The first volume was published on September 10, 2010 under ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint.[2] As of October 10, 2013, seven main novels in the series have been released,[3] as well as three side story collections.[4][5][6] Portions of the series have also been serialized in Dengeki Bunko Magazine.

Manga

A manga adaptation illustrated by Umechazuke began serialization the October 2011 issue of ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Daioh magazine. The first tankōbon volume was released on March 27, 2012;[12] four volumes have been released as of July 27, 2013.[13]

Anime

A 24-episode anime television series adaptation, produced by Genco and J.C.Staff, will begin airing on October 3, 2013 on MBS.[14] The series is directed by Chiaki Kon with scripts by Fumihiko Shimo and character design by Shinya Hasegawa. The series' music is composed by Yukari Hashimoto.[15] The opening theme is "Golden Time" and the ending theme is "Sweet & Sweet Cherry"; both are sung by Yui Horie.[16] The series will be released on eight BD/DVD compilation volumes between December 25, 2013 and July 23, 2014.[17][18] The anime has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks for streaming and home video release in 2014.[19]

A visual novel developed by Kadokawa Games, titled Golden Time: Vivid Memories, will be released for the PlayStation Vita in Q2 2014.[20][21]

Reception

The Mainichi Shimbun reported in March 2013 that over 710,000 copies of the light novel series have been sold in Japan.[22]
