2014 International Premier Tennis League

The International Premier Tennis League is a tennis championship league that is set to launch in November 2014, and will be held across four cities: Manila, Dubai, Delhi and Singapore.[1] The tournament was the brainchild of Mahesh Bbhupathi and is styled on the Indian Premier League.

Format

Four teams consisting of up to ten players will compete in 24 best-of-five round robin matches which will take place across the four cities between November 28 and December 13, consisting of a set each for men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, mixed doubles, and, if required, a legends singles tiebreak to decide the match.[2] Unlike in a standard match of tennis, whereas the tiebreak would be invoked if the score reached 6–all in a set, it will be invoked if the score reaches 5–all in any set.[3]

2014 tournament

For the 2014 tournament, current men's and women's world number ones, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams, are confirmed to be taking part, as well as active former world number ones Novak Djokovic, Lleyton Hewitt, Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka and Ana Ivanovic, and former Grand Slam champions Pete Sampras, Carlos Moyá, Goran Ivanišević, Andy Murray and Andre Agassi, among many others.[1]

The teams

Bangkok were originaly scheduled to host a team, but it was moved to the Philippines amidst security concerns from the 2014 Thai coup d'état and its aftermath.[4] The four teams announced for the inaugural tournament are as follows:[1][5]
