The following statements by individual advocates are their own opinions. Nothing stated here has been vetted by the association; it is the member's own statement and the association gives no warranty as to the accuracy of any member's statement (see general Wikipedia:general disclaimer). I am certainly interested in the concept, since that was the primary reason why I joined the mediation committee :-). I think it is usually best for one to talk to another directly, if that is needed. Unless one is very very very upset, and/or can't express himself clearly enough so to be understood. Then, sometimes, it might be nice to be able to afford a lawyer :-) Perhaps though, having been here longer, I am not as optimistic than Denni; I fear there is not always room for compromise...but we should always try.

I became interested in advocacy through reading the first AMA meeting logs. I feel that my utter lack of any experience in advocacy would make me the ideal advocate in any context requiring the utmost in neutrality. As I gain more experience my neutrality may suffer, so for the moment I would like to limit my participation to only the stickiest cases involving extreme befuddlement. I am a fanatic lifelong student of all things historical, guaranteed to research to death the topic at hand in any dispute. My days in the Ivy League have only hardened this tendency, and my current status as a law school student brings a certain know-how to the effective resolution of disputes. I have also served on various community bodies, outside Wikipedia, that deal with person-to-person disputes. I bring to the table a cool head, a calm and informed manner as well as a great appreciation for the common responsibilities of belonging to the Wikipedia community. Well, as of April 7, I'm the newest advocate around. I'm a high school senior on my way to college in August, and I've done some work in Law Explorers so I definitely know more about law than the average high school student. I know I'm young, but I'm very eager to help. My school's IP was banned for a week thanks to a vandal and I received very poor treatment trying to appeal the ban, as I couldn't post even with my user name. I'd like to think of myself as a white Nelson Mandela; I hope my experience with injustice will help be to combat it all the more. I believe many Wikipedians are too hard on vandals, although I still agree that vandalism is a malicious aspect of the site. I am more than willing to help my fellow Wikipedians. I only registered last July, but I believe that I am able to contribute a lot to this project as I have finally found a way to use my abilities of diplomacy and use of language. With the motto "Victory through words" I shall administrate justice wherever it is needed. I have no special studies on the subject (just finished high school) but I have managed to solve a lot of conflicts in my personal environment and I don't think it is a lot more that is needed here. I will be glad to help.

Unfortunately I have no time on my hands to contribute to the AMA at the moment. Perhaps I will return at a later date.

What a fantastic idea. I'm surprised I haven't stumbled across this before. I find that newbies on Wikipedia who are disagreed with by a majority often leave out of frustration before learning the ropes, so to speak. I am a forward evolutionist style thinker and love my music studies (Music Student). I believe in keeping information. I strongly oppose bad deletion nominations. Most of them are out of process. Such nominations include poorly discussed explanations. (ie.: putting up a deletion for lack of verifiable information, when you could use WP:V) Such deletion nominations, though according to accuser may be done in good faith, I believe, are usually done by deletionists that have become institutionalised by wikipedia's system. It may have been an atomization and may probably be grounds for USER-RFC. I've had many debates with user:JzG. And I'm more in to advocating for things like technologies, transportation, and vehicles. (seeing my experience with the article motorized bicycle). Just leave me message at talk page.

I would very much like to be able to assist in conflict resolution here. I've read too many dialogs that are such in name only, and which could have been resolved at any number of points in the discussion if cooler heads had prevailed. We have many talented and knowledgeable people freely contributing their time and effort; I believe in this project, and I don't want those people departing because of misunderstanding and hurt feelings. There is always room for compromise.

I despise most forms of conflict and strive to end them in peaceful ways wherever possible. As long as you seem to be (at least partially) a rational individual, I shall strive to help you with your disputes and end them without resorting to personal attacks or incivility. With any luck the others involved will be rational as well and everything will go well :)

Most of my contributions to Wikipedia have dealt with generally ignored subjects, so I am interested in fair play. I have been at Wiki for over a year. I have previously served as an advocate on several occasions and I believe that it is in the interest of any user involved in a conflict to avoid, if possible, Requests for Conflict and Request for Arbitration. I have had success in alleviating conflicts before they get that far in the past.

I offer my services to any Wikipedian who has been defamed and belittled on a talk page or has been the victim of a Wikipedian who disregards the tenets of WikiLove and Wikiquette. I have the right to reject cases that I am not comfortable representing, or in which I have a conflict of interest. You can contact me via my talk page. I have been on Wikipedia for about a year now and am a huge fan. Most of my editting takes place on political articles particularly in Canada and the United States and to a smaller extent the United Kingdom. I will not act as an advocate on most articles of this nature due to an, at least perceived, conflict of interest. My current opinion on this organization is that it's basically worthless from my experience, or lack thereof, with it. I joined the organization awhile back, expecting something to happen, and nothing did. No leadership of any kind contacted me saying what would happen then or how I could help, no user ever asked me for their assistance because of this organization, and I occasionally represented users when I felt they had been slighted such as here.
It'd be nice to have an organization that facilitates helping to write wrongs done to users, but this organization has so far failed in that mission from what i've seen. I am happy to have the opportunity to be an advocate for any member, especially in the arbitration process. I feel that when all is said and done I can be an impartial individual who can honestly see the merit in both sides, however slight, and that my involvements in various discussions to date have already exhibited this to be true. I also have an interest in guarding Wikipedia's arbitration system from inappropriate or overbroad remedies or enforcements.

I've enjoyed helping various conflicts on Wikipedia. Since some users are taking it upon themselves to ask for my input I thought I'd put my name up here formally. My values are civility, clear representation of minorities, and cutting through politics. I think everyone deserves a fair hearing.

Mentality

Such a great project should not be (like so many other great projects) laden down with silly politics and argumentative co-wikipedians. If I can play a part in lifting this burden, or making the process quicker/fairer than it otherwise would be, I will.

I believe that, as Wikipedia is an open project, everyone should be entitled to some sort of supportive representation before being limited in their participation. I wish to defend Wikipedians against such measures because I think that they run contrary to Wikipedia's purpose. I don't anticipate refusing representation to anyone, but I find it very difficult to defend someone who has consistantly done something wrong enough to warrant limitation.

I came to the association's page through a user page and found many users I respect among the members. I like the goal of mediating in dispute resolution, so I decided to join.

I have been involved with wikipedia since 2001, and from what I can glean from various talk: wikipedia: and meta: pages I don't particularly like the direction the community has taken. When you have admins getting at each others throats on a request for deadminship; when admins get involved in NPOV disputes; when admins prosecute, judge, and punish violations of policies they themselves instituted; then you know ordinary users are going to have a hard time and need advocacy. I have seen too many valuable users leave wikipedia as a result of the developing climate, and I don't like it.

My background includes extensive experience in civil conflict and the study, development and implementation of strategies for large-scale change. My practices revolve around a doctrine that personal behavior is not primarily a product of character traits, but rather is a transient result of interpersonal interactions. My observations of this site inform a conclusion that few data entries an individual might submit may effectively disrupt the mechanical construction of the site, but that responses based on emotion-laden perceptions often easily escalate to appear as immutable conflict when people repeatedly act in conflicted situations without modifying their approach. My operational style is often covert and usually involves operations not apparent to the majority of a group. Using an Aikido-oriented style of engagement, I more often attempt to make conflict productive than try to prevent or resolve conflict. For my safety, those seeking or obtaining my assistance often do not recognize that I have engaged and altered the situation in which they are involved.
