Member and Former Member Statements

The following statements by individual advocates are their own opinions. Nothing stated here has been vetted by the association; it is the member's own statement and the association gives no warranty as to the accuracy of any member's statement (see general Wikipedia:general disclaimer). Please consider your choice of an advocate carefully; note that you are free to contact more than one advocate to discuss your problems with them.

A D Monroe III
I've worked to settle a few minor disputes unofficially. I'm willing to expand doing this as an AMA member. (BTW, sorry for moving our founder, Alex756, from the top of the member list. I wasn't thinking about alphabetical listings when I chose my user name.)
Aeon
I just joined the AMA and will usually be able to be an avocate on most days 12PM Pacific Daylight Time and I'm willing to handle type anycase. Qualifications, currently a 2nd Class Petty officer who has handled several investigations into USN member violations.
Alex43223
I have just joined the AMA and am willing to help anyone in need. A friend in need is a friend in deed. I might not be around every day, but I will check in as much as possible to help. So feel free to contact me by e-mail or on my talk page. :D
Amicuscuriae
Academic lawyer with a background in contentious litigation and IPR, some knowledge of alternative dispute resolution and plenty of enthusiasm for the Wikipedia process. I look forward to helping the project in my own little way. You can also get hold of me via e-mail amicuscuriae at hush dot com. :-)
Andrevan
Long-time association member, but has not participated much. Member of mock trial and debate clubs, but qualifications end there.
Anthere
I am certainly interested in the concept, since that was the primary reason why I joined the mediation committee :-). I think it is usually best for one to talk to another directly, if that is needed. Unless one is very very very upset, and/or can't express himself clearly enough so to be understood. Then, sometimes, it might be nice to be able to afford a lawyer :-) Perhaps though, having been here longer, I am not as optimistic than Denni; I fear there is not always room for compromise...but we should always try.
AtomAnt
I became interested in advocacy through reading the first AMA meeting logs. I feel that my utter lack of any experience in advocacy would make me the ideal advocate in any context requiring the utmost in neutrality. As I gain more experience my neutrality may suffer, so for the moment I would like to limit my participation to only the stickiest cases involving extreme befuddlement. To remind me about upcoming meetings, and for requests for advocacy, please let me know at my talk page.
Audentis
I am a fanatic lifelong student of all things historical, guaranteed to research to death the topic at hand in any dispute. My days in the Ivy League have only hardened this tendency, and my current status as a law school student brings a certain know-how to the effective resolution of disputes. I have also served on various community bodies, outside Wikipedia, that deal with person-to-person disputes. I bring to the table a cool head, a calm and informed manner as well as a great appreciation for the common responsibilities of belonging to the Wikipedia community. If you would like me to serve as your advocate, leave a message on my talk page: Audentis-Talk Page.
BDD
Well, as of April 7, I'm the newest advocate around. I'm a high school senior on my way to college in August, and I've done some work in Law Explorers so I definitely know more about law than the average high school student. I know I'm young, but I'm very eager to help. My school's IP was banned for a week thanks to a vandal and I received very poor treatment trying to appeal the ban, as I couldn't post even with my user name. I'd like to think of myself as a white Nelson Mandela; I hope my experience with injustice will help be to combat it all the more. I believe many Wikipedians are too hard on vandals, although I still agree that vandalism is a malicious aspect of the site. I am more than willing to help my fellow Wikipedians. You may contact me on my page, which also has external contact info. Please don't hesitate to hire me.
Hahaha... whenever I read something I wrote in the past I always think I sound ridiculous... regardless, I'm still around, despite my disappearance from other lists. Get a hold of me, I'd love to help!
Benon
Well i guess its time i finally made a statment here, Well Im currently studying law at college and do a small amount of legal charity work represting pepole in court, as a wikipedia advocate you can contact me through my talk page or the e-mail this user function. I'm more than happy to help ensure wikipedians get fair treatment throught dipute resolution, and can act as an informal mediator if needed
Bill the Greek
I only registered last July, but I believe that I am able to contribute a lot to this project as I have finally found a way to use my abilities of diplomacy and use of language. With the motto "Victory through words" I shall administrate justice wherever it is needed. I have no special studies on the subject (just finished high school) but I have managed to solve a lot of conflicts in my personal environment and I don't think it is a lot more that is needed here. I will be glad to help.
Unfortunately I have no time on my hands to contribute to the AMA at the moment. Perhaps I will return at a later date.
BorgHunter
What a fantastic idea. I'm surprised I haven't stumbled across this before. I find that newbies on Wikipedia who are disagreed with by a majority often leave out of frustration before learning the ropes, so to speak. I aim to prevent as much of that as I can, and help these clueless newbies who may need some help. I welcome (and indeed love receiving) messages on my talk page.
Burgundavia
I just joined this association, as I seem to have avoided and dealt well with any issues I have come up with, and thus wish to extend my skills to others. Feel free to contact me on my talk page.
Bottesini
I am more than happy to help resolve disputes, and if you want my opinion on anything just ask. I would like to see more leadership in this association, however. Just leave a message on my talk page.
CaladSigilon
Nothing is more important to me than the civil rights of all. As the founder of the Office of the Public Defender at my school, I believe first and foremost that everyone is guarenteed fair representation, no matter what they are accused of or who they are. Everyone should be guarenteed equal treatment. Lady Justice is blind. If you need any assistance, please contact me here.
Conradrock
I've been a lurker on Wikipedia for a while, and I feel that it is very important to help people stand up for what they believe in, while trying to reach a common ground. I also feel that no matter who you are or what you have done, everyone deserves the right to have someone represent them, and assist their defense (or offense). I love debating the facts, and I want to make sure that everyone receives fair, equal treatment. You may contact me on my talk page anytime.
CyclePat
I am a forward evolutionist style thinker and love my music studies (Music Student). I believe in keeping information. I strongly oppose bad deletion nominations. Most of them are out of process. Such nominations include poorly discussed explanations. (ie.: putting up a deletion for lack of verifiable information, when you could use WP:V) Such deletion nominations, though according to accuser may be done in good faith, I believe, are usually done by deletionists that have become institutionalised by wikipedia's system. It may have been an atomization and may probably be grounds for USER-RFC. I've had many debates with user:JzG. And I'm more in to advocating for things like technologies, transportation, and vehicles. (seeing my experience with the article motorized bicycle). Just leave me message at talk page.
David.Mestel
I have an interest in Wikipedia policy, debating and real world law. I'll be happy to represent you in formal dispute resolution, like RfC or mediation, or just to speak to other users on your behalf. I'm fairly new to Wikipedia advocacy, so if you're going to ArbCom, you probably want somebody more experienced. To contact me, just drop me a line on my talk page, or send me and e-mail.
Dan
I am, it must be said, relatively new to this great project. Although I have done my fair share of editing and voting, and I am experienced in dealing with complete...ly nasty people. ;-) I have always been a very good debater, and I always like to help people so I hope that this might give me an opportunity to combine the two in a meaningful way. If you need a helping hand you can always come here, and I'll happily defend you to the death (not literally of course, even I don't take this that seriously!) against those who would do you wrong.
Deskana
While comparatively young compared to other advocates, I feel that my youth can sometimes give me a unique perspective on things. I have knowledge of Wikipedia policy so as to be sure that everyone is represented fairly. I even have actually defended someone who tried to get me permenantly banned from Wikipedia at one point; as far as I am concerned policy is policy, regardless of how I feel about such a user. I adhere to the spirit of the policy over the letter of the policy. Feel free to contact me!.
Denni
I would very much like to be able to assist in conflict resolution here. I've read too many dialogs that are such in name only, and which could have been resolved at any number of points in the discussion if cooler heads had prevailed. We have many talented and knowledgeable people freely contributing their time and effort; I believe in this project, and I don't want those people departing because of misunderstanding and hurt feelings. There is always room for compromise.
Ed Poor, aka Uncle Ed
Everyone who's asked for my help and followed my advice has had complete success resolving all their problems at Wikipedia. I'm so used to having this unbroken chain of success that I guess I forgot to 'advertise' my services. I'd be honored to help Fluffy with this project! :-)
freakofnurture
I vaguely sense things getting worse around this community. If you think I might help slow the trend, please contact me. If privacy is critical, send me an email or find me on IRC. If I don't seem to be answering my e-mail, add an an anonymous note on my talk page telling me to check it, or an .
Grunt (former member, curently an arbitration committee member)
Grunt is a former member who is currently serving on the Arbitration Committee, members must step down while on the Committee according to the association rules, however they can rejoin after leaving service as an Arbitrator on Wikipedia (all former arbitrators are encouraged to join). (This note added by Coordinator Alex756). This former member's statement is maintained here for historical purposes only.
I despise most forms of conflict and strive to end them in peaceful ways wherever possible. As long as you seem to be (at least partially) a rational individual, I shall strive to help you with your disputes and end them without resorting to personal attacks or incivility. With any luck the others involved will be rational as well and everything will go well :)
JCarriker
Most of my contributions to Wikipedia have dealt with generally ignored subjects, so I am interested in fair play. I have been at Wiki for over a year. I have previously served as an advocate on several occasions and I believe that it is in the interest of any user involved in a conflict to avoid, if possible, Requests for Conflict and Request for Arbitration. I have had success in alleviating conflicts before they get that far in the past.
I offer my services to any Wikipedian who has been defamed and belittled on a talk page or has been the victim of a Wikipedian who disregards the tenets of WikiLove and Wikiquette. I have the right to reject cases that I am not comfortable representing, or in which I have a conflict of interest. You can contact me via my talk page. I resign per my elevation to the Mediation Committee. -JCarriker 04:15, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

I have been on Wikipedia for about a year now and am a huge fan. Most of my editting takes place on political articles particularly in Canada and the United States and to a smaller extent the United Kingdom. I will not act as an advocate on most articles of this nature due to an, at least perceived, conflict of interest. I am probably most able to take up a position of advocacy in areas of politics, history and technology where I can more readily understand the subject matter. - Jord 15:18, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Over the last 15 years I have built extensive experience in conflict resolution within multi-functional teams. I offer this experience to my fellow editors at Wikipedia. Available for representation in interpersonal disputes and article disputes that not related to Religion. ≈ jossi fresco ≈ t@ 06:22, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

: I wish to make Wikipedia a better and more harmonious place if I can, I have some personal demons with anger, so my attempts to be a mediator are something of a repentence. If I can help, please contact me on my talk page. My current opinion on this organization is that it's basically worthless from my experience, or lack thereof, with it. I joined the organization awhile back, expecting something to happen, and nothing did. No leadership of any kind contacted me saying what would happen then or how I could help, no user ever asked me for their assistance because of this organization, and I occasionally represented users when I felt they had been slighted such as here.
It'd be nice to have an organization that facilitates helping to write wrongs done to users, but this organization has so far failed in that mission from what i've seen. I'll continue to help those who ask me for it, and if this group ends its inactivity, I wouldn't mind rejoining. Karmafist 05:55, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy to have the opportunity to be an advocate for any member, especially in the arbitration process. I feel that when all is said and done I can be an impartial individual who can honestly see the merit in both sides, however slight, and that my involvements in various discussions to date have already exhibited this to be true. I also have an interest in guarding Wikipedia's arbitration system from inappropriate or overbroad remedies or enforcements.
Lejend
I am greatly supportive of this scheme: any method of bringing about a solution to a dispute without drawing blood should be preferred. Let duelling be fought with swords of rhetoric or pistols of eloquence. I can be contacted on my talk page, or by email (which for the sake of preventing spam is listed therein)
Lord Emsworth
This entire process of arbitration seems very interesting and also beneficial to me, and perhaps by joining this Office I would have a role in it.

I feel if there's a Wikipedia in need I'll help. I've helped with a few conflicts here and there so I'm not a complete newby with this. I keep myself civil at all times and I'm familiar with most policies.
Metta Bubble
I've enjoyed helping various conflicts on Wikipedia. Since some users are taking it upon themselves to ask for my input I thought I'd put my name up here formally. My values are civility, clear representation of minorities, and cutting through politics. I think everyone deserves a fair hearing.
Mentality
Such a great project should not be (like so many other great projects) laden down with silly politics and argumentative co-wikipedians. If I can play a part in lifting this burden, or making the process quicker/fairer than it otherwise would be, I will.
Metasquares
I believe that, as Wikipedia is an open project, everyone should be entitled to some sort of supportive representation before being limited in their participation. I wish to defend Wikipedians against such measures because I think that they run contrary to Wikipedia's purpose. I don't anticipate refusing representation to anyone, but I find it very difficult to defend someone who has consistantly done something wrong enough to warrant limitation.

I came to the association's page through a user page and found many users I respect among the members. I like the goal of mediating in dispute resolution, so I decided to join.
I have been involved with wikipedia since 2001, and from what I can glean from various talk: wikipedia: and meta: pages I don't particularly like the direction the community has taken. When you have admins getting at each others throats on a request for deadminship; when admins get involved in NPOV disputes; when admins prosecute, judge, and punish violations of policies they themselves instituted; then you know ordinary users are going to have a hard time and need advocacy. I have seen too many valuable users leave wikipedia as a result of the developing climate, and I don't like it.

Hi, I am Mike Roberts. I am very passionate about equality, and I wish to use this as a member of the association. I am 100% against vandals, and people posting obscenities. I look forward to solving disputes and contributing to the community in this way.

Mrs.HippieBurning
My background includes extensive experience in civil conflict and the study, development and implementation of strategies for large-scale change. My practices revolve around a doctrine that personal behavior is not primarily a product of character traits, but rather is a transient result of interpersonal interactions. My observations of this site inform a conclusion that few data entries an individual might submit may effectively disrupt the mechanical construction of the site, but that responses based on emotion-laden perceptions often easily escalate to appear as immutable conflict when people repeatedly act in conflicted situations without modifying their approach. My operational style is often covert and usually involves operations not apparent to the majority of a group. Using an Aikido-oriented style of engagement, I more often attempt to make conflict productive than try to prevent or resolve conflict. For my safety, those seeking or obtaining my assistance often do not recognize that I have engaged and altered the situation in which they are involved.

I am a new member to the AMA, and I hope to solve any dispute in a peaceful manner. I hope to assist. If you wish to contact me, please use my talk page for any inquiries. There are other options, as well. You can send me a email via wikipedia or a normal email at mylesgray_33@msn.com (whichever you are comfortable with)

I am another new member fo the AMA. :-) I've studied policies and politics as part of completing my BA in Information Technology & Informatics, so finding a workable compromise between two fellow Wikipedians that is in compliance with Wikipedia policy is something that I would always strive towards. I always hear both sides of a story before formulating a solution, and even beyond any help that I can give here as an Advocate if you have any questions whatsoever or need advice, please drop by my desk or my talk page. אמר Steve Caruso (desk/poll) 01:25, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
