Hello back at you from the Gastropod Project talk page. Yes that project is not as active as it used to be. Leaving a message on the project talk page was a good idea, but it would have helped if you had told us who you are and what article you were talking about. I assume you are talking about Nembrotha cristata? That article was upgraded to a Start a while ago. It might be a little better than a Start but perhaps not very much. Maybe it would qualify as a C, but many of the statements in it could use a ref. What else would you like to know? Thanks again for your editing, Invertzoo (talk) 13:04, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah that probably would have helped haha, someone reviewed it at a C and then another person did it at a start class Invertzoo. I found all the info I could on the subject and I dont think the article can get much better until more info is found on the creature. Thanks Tortle (talk) 17:54, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
- If you want to improve it a bit more, you could make the intro reflect more of what is in the article. Also when you are listing facts, each sentence should probably have a ref, unless the whole paragraph is all from one source. Invertzoo (talk) 02:08, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- Each paragraph was pretty much from one or two sources Invertzoo but Ill improve the intro when I get a chance. Thanks Tortle (talk) 05:45, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- If the whole paragraph was from one source, then please put the ref at the end of the paragraph. As you can see, I already tried to fix up the article a bit as the image is going to the used as POTD soon. I would be happy to bump the article up to a C or even a B once the intro is a bit better and once the sourcing of the info in the paragraphs is clear. Invertzoo (talk) 20:52, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Ok, sounds good Invertzoo, Ill let you know when I get to it. Tortle (talk) 21:04, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- P.S. The "description" section currently has no refs at all. Good luck and nice talking to you. Invertzoo (talk) 21:08, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for letting me know, nice talking to you too! Tortle (talk) 21:15, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- I updated the intro and added repeat references in a few places. Thanks Invertzoo. Tortle (talk) 01:05, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Looking much better now! Invertzoo (talk) 02:06, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
The article Lego you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Lego for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Community navbar
Concerning the {{Header navbar community}}...
It's part of a navigation system, which is kind of a top-down thing. The navbar lists the main directories, which in turn lead to everything else.
The idea behind the design is efficiency. The goal has been to provide a pathway to every community page via the minimum number of clicks and scroll movements.
The whole system needs updating, starting with the directories themselves.
Don't worry about people reverting your edits. Roll with it. It's valuable feedback. Respond by making improvements that they won't revert. That is, instead of reverting their reverts, try something new that they are unlikely to revert. To find out what that might be, discussion helps a lot. Every community page has a talk page, and so does every editor. We like to talk about the encyclopedia and how to improve it.
Good luck. I look forward to seeing your improvements to the system. The Transhumanist 08:30, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- I did try updating the whole systems of directories and creating a hub to link them all but someone reverted it all so it will be a while until that is fixed because I lost all interest after hours of time was reverted in a few clicks. As far as the navbar, I optimized it to work with the directory system I created so thanks for reverting that now that the directory system is gone. You might also want to make Template:Header navbar community alt back to normal. I am howrver going to make the help link go to the WP:Help hub instead of to Help:Contents to assist new users The Transhumanist. Thanks Tortle (talk) 18:49, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Not actually commenting on this discussion/issue, just that this caught my attention: "I lost all interest after hours of time was reverted in a few clicks." Because I sure know how that feels out here on WP.Colbey84 (talk) 08:20, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
Redesigning high traffic pages
When changing the graphic design of high traffic pages like the Community Portal, it is best to create a draft page and invite people to come comment on the design under development.
Speaking of page redesigns, you might be interested in Wikipedia talk:Main Page (2015 redesign). There you can see the role of community discussion in changing the layout of a high-traffic page. The Main Page is the highest traffic page of them all.
Have fun. The Transhumanist 08:25, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hi The Transhumanist, I have had a redesign of the community portal discussion going on on its talk page with a draft here. Please stop by and contribute. Thanks Tortle (talk) 18:38, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
Tip of the Day project
A fun project that is in need of a devoted volunteer is WP:TOTD.
Each day, a different tip is displayed by template at the bottom of the Community portal and the help menu. The daily tip is also displayed on user pages, and there are several templates to choose from.
There are 366 tips in the set, one named for each day of the year (including leap year). While the tips are named by date, they include no year in their titles. We call this the "yearless year". So, the same tip pages keep getting displayed automatically year after year. (It's in the template coding.)
Before each tip goes live, it needs to be proofread to make sure it is both relevant and up-to-date. Obsolete tips need to be replaced, while the rest need to be checked for accuracy (and corrected if need be).
One of the nicest things about working on this project is that you get to learn most of the cool tricks as you go. You'll soon know the workings of Wikipedia better than most.
The project is just sitting there waiting for someone to give it some TLC.
If you are interested, take a look. If you like what you see, jump in and edit the tips. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. (On my talk page). The Transhumanist 11:49, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
Ill look into the tip of the day, I remember going to the page before but forgettig about returning so thanks for reminding me. Ill be sure to ask you any questions if I need to. Thanks Tortle (talk) 18:52, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Greetings Tortle - posting here to let you know that I found this page Help:Contents/Browse where the TOTD light bulb is showing the yellow bulb. There must be some other magic to updating & it's beyond me. If you could look into this please. Regards, JoeHebda (talk) 16:31, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

About how Lego was a former FA
The Lego article was promoted to FA status in 2004 and demoted in 2006. Back then, since Wikipedia was still in its infant stages, the FA criteria is completely different from what it is today. The GA criteria practically exceeds the FA criteria back then. I hope this answers your question. sovereign°sentinel (contribs) 13:53, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- I dont remember asking that question sovereign°sentinel but thanks! I did figure out what I needed to know to fix the issues with all the links in lego and have it ready for another review. Thanks Tortle (talk) 18:20, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Suggestion: in view of your understandable and somewhat emphasised insistance on preventing bricks falling on your head, may I suggest not responding to helpful and productive suggestions like that from Sovereign Sentinel above in such a seemingly sarcastic manner? The cup of good-help would soon cease to runneth over, I would expect. Many thanks for your time. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi 19:41, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- I was not trying to be sarcastic and I would appreciate if you would give the benefit of the doubt. If sovereign sentinel has a percieved issue with my tone, it is their responsibility to bring it up unless it is something blatantly hurtful. Thanks Tortle (talk) 19:54, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- If anything, I was trying to show appreciation for the thoughfulness of sovereign sentinel going out of their way to provide me information and just hint at the fact that they might have misunderstood my question as that was not what I asked about. I was not trying to be rude and I am sorry that it was percieved that way because I actually pride myself on being nice to others on here. Thanks Tortle (talk) 19:58, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
Your proposition.
Greetings, Tortle! Just letting you know that I've provided what I hope will serve as constructive feedback on your proposition for the community portal. Cheers! If only there was a worthy joke about a band-aid attending the opera... (talk) 20:41, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello and welcome aboard! We are always glad to see new enthusiastic contributors. Have a look at our style guide and let me know if you have any questions about it or anything else. Gamaliel (talk) 20:33, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Gamaliel (talk) for the welcome. The signpost was due an hour ago accordong to the timer so does it need to be published? Thanks Tortle (talk) 21:00, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- We regularly publish pretty late. It's a running joke at this point. Go_Phightins! will be publishing in the next couple of days, depending on when we finish and his schedule. Gamaliel (talk) 21:04, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Tip of the day
Description:
- Each day, TOTD presents a tip on how to use or contribute to Wikipedia
- There's a little in there for everyone, beginners up through power users
Goals:
- Help users learn about WP in bite-sized morsels
- Teach basic techniques and reveal useful tricks
Project maintenance:
- Each day's tip needs to be proofread for accuracy, and updated
- As tips become obsolete, they need to be replaced with fresh ones
Special interest:
- It is an example of how to automate content presentation on a wiki
It's a nice little project. And since the tips are displayed at a rate of one per day, all it takes to keep up with the project is to work on one tip each day. Preferably a month or two in advance, to provide a buffer.
I look forward to seeing what you do with the project. The Transhumanist 12:44, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

That 'pronoun' thingie
So, I ended up reading about the recent discussion/decision on inclusion (or not) of using personal pronouns for fictional characters. How I got there would be a long story. Anyway, I clicked the linked example provided at the beginning of the discussion. [1] From there, I went here. Since I'd just read part of the discussion (a small part, granted), the use of pronouns on this page was even more pronounced than it might have been. Although, it was jarringly bad all on its own. In the lead on the First Born page, there (apparently) is a sexless creature that grows and amasses power—I suppose like the hosta outside my parents' basement window that will one day grow large enough to capture and enslave the entire town. I digress...yet, even in the lead, this sexless wonder is somehow infant, child, son, and male. Which continues for the rest of the article.
I almost edited the page to take out the it-iness in the lead. But quickly reading the next few paragraphs showed that it-iness was the smallest problem that required editing. That realization, along with recent experiences on WP, mean that I did nothing. But I thought you might find it interesting, and possibly good for an example for the next annual(?) personal pronoun discussion. (Since you don't know me, yes, that was joking. Mostly.)
BTW, I actually find this: "For other characters that have adopted this name, as well as other uses, see Wonder Woman (disambiguation)", to be fine. The other option: "For other characters who adopted this name, as well as other uses, see Wonder Woman (disambiguation)", is also okay. This is one of those 'context' areas. And the final version: "For other characters given this name..." is great. (Even better than "For other characters using this name...". I suppose because "using" personifies it. Or something.) In the end, I guess the only reason to perhaps have included it in the MoS, is because...if I had made the edits to remove the it-iness, would someone else have simply reverted it because, you know, they had it right the first time?
This is such a small, 1st-world issue. Silly for me to even put it here. I don't expect you to address it or anything. Just thought you might find it interesting. I didn't read the Rancor page; hopefully I wasn't rude or mean. And I hope you're feeling better—and/or back to doing what you'd most like to be doing—soon!Colbey84 (talk) 09:14, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

The article Lego you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Lego for things which need to be addressed.
