Noragami (ノラガミ, lit. Stray God) is a Japanese manga series by Adachitoka that began serialization in Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Magazine in January 2011's issue. It has been collected in fifteen tankōbon volumes as of November 2015. An anime television series adaptation by Bones aired in Japan between January 5 and March 23, 2014. A second season, entitled Noragami Aragoto, premiered on October 2, 2015, and is scheduled to have 13 episodes.

Plot

Hiyori Iki was a regular high junior school student until she was hit by a bus while trying to save the life of a track-suit-wearing person named Yato. This incident causes her to transform into a half-phantom. Soon after, she learns that Yato is a god and she ends up being dragged into the world of Gods while having to attempt staying in the realm of the living.

Media

Manga

Noragami started as a manga series, authored by Adachitoka and published by Kodansha. The series premiered in Monthly Shōnen Magazine's January 2011 issue, released on December 6, 2010,[2] and has been compiled into fifteen tankōbon volumes between July 15, 2011, and November 17, 2015.[3] The ninth volume was released simultaneously with a limited edition, bundled with a drama CD.[4] Volumes 10 and 11 were released simultaneously with limited editions, each containing an anime episode on DVD.[5][6] Extra chapters of the series have been published in the spin-off publication, Monthly Shōnen Magazine + since 2011 and as of November 15, 2013, they have been compiled into one volume under the title Noragami Shūishū (ノラガミ拾遺集).[7] Both the main series and spin-off series have been licensed in North America by Kodansha Comics USA, under the title Noragami: Stray God and Noragami: Stray Stories respectively. The first volume of Noragami: Stray God was released on September 2, 2014, with six volumes released as of August 18, 2015.[8][9] The first volume of Noragami: Stray Stories will be released in December 2015.[10]

Anime

The Noragami television series adaptation is produced by Bones, directed by Kotaro Tamura with scripts by Deko Akao and character designs by Toshihiro Kawamoto.[1] Prior to the series' television premiere, its first episode was screened at 2013's Anime Festival Asia on November 10, 2013.[11] The anime began airing in Japan on January 5, 2014, on Tokyo MX and later on MBS, BS11 and TVA. Funimation has licensed the anime for streaming in North America.[1] Madman Entertainment has licensed the anime for distribution in Australia and New Zealand.[12] Its final, twelfth episode aired on Tokyo MX on March 23, 2014. Besides the television series, two additional episodes were released on DVDs bundled with the limited edition of the 10th and 11th volumes of the manga, published on February 17 and July 17, 2014.[1] The opening theme song is "Goya no Machiawase" (午夜の待ち合わせ, Overnight Appointment) with composition and lyrics by Shuntarō and arrangement and performed by Hello Sleepwalkers. The ending theme song is "Heart Realize" (ハートリアライズ, Hāto Riaraizu) with composition, arrangement and lyrics by Supercell and performed by Tia.
