The fates of Dam-ryeong and Se-hwa become entwined with their modern day incarnations, Dam-ryeong being reborn as charming con artist Heo Joon-jae, and Se-hwa as a naive mermaid besotted by him, that he names Shim Chung. Linked by dreams, Dam-ryeong learns of Joon-jae's world and his own fate, however Joon-jae dismisses their link as mere dreams. Fearing that the same ill-fate that afflicts himself and Se-hwa will replay itself, Dam-ryeong sends an artifact to be discovered in the future to try and warn and convince Joon-jae of the dangers he and Shim Chung face.
