If the FRSA does not make someone notable, this should therefore be applied to everyone, as you assert that the FRSA is not a creditable institution, those that are awarded the fellowship , using your logic, the whole fellowship should be deleted from wikipedia along with mentions to the alumni Benjamin Franklin, Stephen Hawkings etc. If it applies to one person, it therefore should apply to everyone.

Further improvements

Hello Theroadislong... I'd like to work with you to improve SOCO International's Wiki page, get the facts out there and legitimize the page/remove the tags. I will not directly edit the page again since I am a COI editor and do have a 'close connection' with the subject. Nevertheless, I would like to help present the facts about SOCO's activities while adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines. In order to remove the promotional content I suggest removing the following three sentences, but please let me know what needs to happen to further improve the page and I would be happy to assist: -- "In 2016 it was reported that SOCO had indicated that with low cost production, no debt and its disciplined approach to capital allocation, the company was in a good position to weather a prolonged industry downturn." --"Looking ahead, the company said it plans to produce 10,000 to 11,500 barrels of oil equivalent a day in 2016 This doesn't included potentially higher output scenarios from its TGT field in Vietnam." --"The start of production was achieved more than a month ahead of schedule, SOCO said, and the H5 wellhead platform development was completed with zero lost time accidents." I look forward to hearing from you, SOCOrep — Preceding unsigned comment added by SOCOrep (talkcontribs) SOCOrep (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Theroadislong,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 803 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

External link

What is wrong with the external link on Hearing loss: It is a section of my contribution on the Sociology of Disability, which I think is very usefull for students and academics on this field, and which adds something new to this page. As far as I know this kind of information is very suitable and useful for social scientists (not only in the Netherlands and the UK, but world wide).

Greeting from Amsterdam, Albert Benchop — Preceding unsigned comment added by Albertbenschop (talkcontribs) 14:09, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker)@Albertbenschop: Wikipeda is a general encyclopedia; it is not just written for social scientists. Adding a very narrowly focussed link to a very broad article is strongly discouraged by the external links guideline. Adding a link to your own site to 53 other Wikimedia wikis really isn't on, either. You'd best contribute to the external links noticeboard discussion about your link additions, which I noted on your talk page. Graham87 14:39, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

04:24:26, 6 February 2017 review of submission by WikiEMG

Good evening Theroadislong,

We're trying to post our initial company profile on Wikipedia, but this is our 2nd attempt that has not passed the benchmark. Our initial attempt was admittedly a bit too "sales" oriented, but the 2nd attempt was largely grounded in sources/references from reputable sites. USAToday, HuffingtonPost, HomeAlarmReport... We also noticed that the old version was being referenced for deletion most recently, in addition to the newest draft here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:LivSecure_Home_Security

We just don't know what other sources are needed. If you could help to explain what else we need to verify, we would be happy to comply. Like I said, this 2nd attempt removed the product listings and the self-promotion, the listing itself seemed to be in line with and on par with other comparable products that have accepted Wikipedia listings.

Thanks! WikiEMG

Wikipedia doesn't host company profiles and you have a conflict of interest. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that summarizes what independent, reliable sources say about a topic. You need to establish notability by adding references that show there is widespread in-depth coverage of the organisation in reliable sources. Your press releases and blog mentions are not sufficient. Theroadislong (talk) 09:23, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scarborough Art Gallery

Thanks for your feedback on my recently submitted draft. I am in the process of adding further citations, but would be grateful for your advice on what specifically needs to be addressed. The format (apart from including a lengthier history of the building) is very similar to that used by another local gallery, the Ferens in Hull: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferens_Art_GallerySMTrustHeather (talk) 13:57, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The content in the Ferens Art Gallery article is all cited to reliable, secondary and independent sources, whereas your article is not. Wikipedia has no interest in what you or I know about a subject ONLY what the reliable sources say. Theroadislong (talk) 14:02, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Large watchlists

I saw you mention that you've thousands of articles on your watchlist. I was wondering if we could compare notes on why it's useful to have such large watchlists and how to manage them. --Ronz (talk) 16:40, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ha... I'm not sure it is that useful! I sometimes wish I could have a secondary watchlist with the important articles only. 17:26, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
I find it useful for many reasons, mostly dealing with long-term problems, but I do try to trim mine from time to time when articles become relatively stable and well-maintained.
There is a way to create lists similar to watchlists that are publicly viewable: WP:PWL. I haven't used it yet, but have been thinking of doing so for the articles I remove from my watchlist, so I can still track them while not having them clog my watchlist. --Ronz (talk) 18:39, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Links on Adam Meggido page

Hey, you have said that I need to remove in line external links, Wikipedia doesn't use them they can be converted into Wikipedia article links where appropriate or references. I don't understand what you mean by this, please can you explain further?

Unicirc article COI

I have no conflict of interest. I am an independent scientist. Here is the statement on the following article: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0157065

The authors received no specific funding for this work, did not/do not serve as employees or consultants, and have no financial interest in this product or any marketed products or products in development. The authors have no competing interests, defined as anything that interferes with, or could reasonably be perceived as interfering with, the full and objective presentation, peer review, editorial decision-making, or publication of research or non-research articles. No competing interests, financial or non-financial, professional, or personal, exist. No competing interests exist in relationship to an organization or another person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petersmillard (talkcontribs) 20:36, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

5 of the articles references cite your name which is why I considered you had a conflict of interest in citing your own work? Theroadislong (talk) 20:53, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think a very fair assessment on your part. This is a specialized area and there are few researchers. Do you accept my explanation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petersmillard (talkcontribs) 21:38, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes... users are discouraged from citing their own work, better to make suggested edits on the article talk page for others to consider. Theroadislong (talk) 21:44, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion: Amplus Solar

I am reasearching on the topic of Solar energy and solar panel in India. The company proves to be a prominent one in this field in India. I couldn't find a wiki page for the same so decided to make one. I don't want to promote the company or anything, just some basic information about it. I am writing some fresh and unique content for the same so that I can edit the article. Shall I edit the article there itself or shall I write a new one as suggested by you through the WP:afc process. Anshikaa003 (talk) 11:52, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It has been tagged for speedy deletion already, I'm afraid that the company does not appear to be notable in Wikipedia terms. I would suggest using the WP:AFC process to create an article. 20:13:12, 15 February 2017 review of submission by Rgschroeder12

It is true that the article, Operations Management, mentions Service Operations in one paragraph among the many pages of text. That article starts with, "Operations management is an area of management concerned with designing and controlling the process of production and redesigning business operations in the production of goods or services." While the production of services is in the definition the rest of the long article, except for one paragraph, deals entirely with manufacturing history, explanations, practices, examples and citations. Given that developed economies produce more services than manufactured goods by a large margin, it's unfortunate that operations management of services is not given more attention in that article.

The reason I wrote a separate article on Operations Management for Services is that the content would be way too long if it were added to the existing article dealing with manufacturing. I received the advice from a Wikipedia editor to write a separate article to give service operations appropriate consideration and not make the current article too long. This does not deny the importance of manufacturing in developed economies, I am just dealing with a glaring omission. Since the 1950s there has been a very large literature in textbooks and research on Operations Management for Services as referenced in my article. Certainly, Operations Management for Services deserves as much attention in Wikipedia as manufacturing.

I hope that you will reconsider, or pass the review to another reviewer, given the advice I received to write a separate article on Operations Management for Services and the length needed to address services. Thank you for your time.Rgschroeder12 (talk) 20:13, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stanley Leopold Fowler

Hello Theroadislong

Can you please explain why the article Stanley Leopold Fowler is for deletion yet again. As I explained initially, most documents or links for this article date from 1970's and it is very difficult or impossible to have them on the internet purely due to the era. The remarkable Elizabethan Village stands as a testimony to Stanley Leopold Fowler, founder, builder and visionary, of the Elizabethan Village. There is a thread onwiki and there are photos of articles written in newspapers of the time, unfortunately they need permission which again is impossible to obtain as the writers are possibly deceased. There are tourist reviews that are referenced citing Leo Fowler as the founder of the Elizabethan Village. The picture of the plaque officially recognising the Elizabethan Village as a historic cite and cannot be included until the consent of the City of Armadale arrives. Is his notability in dispute? or photographs that belong to Sally-ANN Fowler who gave permission for them to be used?

Please enlighten with truth and honesty Thewayweis (talk) 12:31, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You need to establish notability by adding references that show there is widespread coverage of Stanley Leopold Fowler in reliable sources, if there are no sources then sadly we cannot have an article on Wikipedia. Yours sources such as they are seem to refer to rthe buldings and not him? Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, which summarises what independent sources have published about subjects and has essentially no interest in what anybody or any organisation says or wants to say about themselves on Wikipedia we need reliable sources independent of the subject. I hope the following information is useful to you for your discussion:

Stanley Leopold Fowler won the prestigious Sir David Brand Award for Tourism The Elizabethan Village was opened to the public in 1977 by Sir Charles Court It is recognized as a historic site in 2009 The original Blueprints are archived at the Shakepeare's Birthplace Trust in Stratford-upon-Avon The Shakespeare Function Center has been changed into Leo Fowler's Function Center to acknowledge and commemorate

As I have mentioned most of the articles are from the 70's as support and validation and they have been uploaded to wiki through a thread with Alessio Rutveno who is aware that most of the support has to have permission from the author's and unfortunately some might have deceased.

This article was proposed for deletion before and after communicating with other wiki contributors it was took off. It is sad that I have to go through this same process again possibly, as I understand it, of one individual.

If I am incorrect in this please accept my humble apologies but looking at it mathematically this seems to be the sum.

Sarah Warner gives a review citing the Elizabethan Village and Leo Fowler. Please enlighten.

Sir David Brand award is not a notable award in Wikipedia terms, The Elizabethan Village may possibly be notable, I don't know, but the article is about Stanley Leopold Fowler not the village. The article was prodded before, but as there are no reliable sources I have taken it WP:afd where other editors will discuss whether it has a place in the encyclopedia or not. We need sources that show there is widespread coverage of him in reliable sources, newspaper or magazine articles would be fine, they don't have to be online but they do need to be verifiable. There are not enough sources to confirm notabilty. You need to establish notability by adding references to independent sources that show there is widespread coverage of him in reliable sources. I can find no in-depth coverage of him anywhere.Theroadislong (talk) 14:28, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

thank you, I have found information on magazines but not much online. Shall I scan it and upload them? and if so, how many?

thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ventique (talkcontribs) 15:11, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No need to scan them just input the title of the magazine, publisher and date so that the info can be verified by others see WP:REFSTART for help with references. Theroadislong (talk) 15:15, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stanley Leopold Fowler

I thank you for your response and the COI you have raised but there is no COI...I don't work for anyone linked to Stanley Leopold Fowler. I asked for permission from his daughter Sally-ann Fowler to write about this extraordinary man, her father, and his achievements that are remarkable and notable. I have seen the blueprints archived in Stratford-upon-Avon, yet there was nothing online to acknowledge his work that stands in Armadale, officially a historic site. What I am truly baffled with is that the article itself has been butchered without giving me time or guidance to rectify or defend the stance, leaving the article incomplete and incoherent, for example, leaving a heading "Anne Hathaway's Cottage" and removing the picture or anything about the cottage. Why bother doing that? It is like someone living in cornwall, writing about all things cornish ...is that a COI?

All the facts I mentioned are true and supported by newspaper articles from the 70's which was long before the internet! I have had this same situation from the onset and after discussion it was redeemed. Do I have to go through this every time someone decides to question Leo's notability or the sources or even disagrees with his existence ? Or is once enough? The strangest and disturbing thing is that the proposed for deletion note came on today 24.02.2017 stating it's for discussion, yet most of the article has been deleted even before discussion has taken place, unless the discussion and decision is only on for a couple of hours?

Through this process I have tried, and amended all the necessary suggestions from helpful people in wikipedia, although I am new to this. The life of Stanley Leopold Fowler was an inspiration for me to join wikipedia and hopefully, as a platform, bring this remarkable man to the world. Seeing all the research I have done deleted, butchered and left incoherent and incomplete is devastating! I relish and welcome positive and constructive guidance from wikipedia contributors , who have been editing for possibly years, but when your work is simply deleted without time to correct and learn, frankly isn't in line with community spirit especially when only a couple of hours have lapsed from the note appearing and article mainly deleted.

We don't require permission from people to write articles here, articles are only written using what the independent sources have published about subjects. My assumption of a conflict of interest was because you had uploaded photographs belonging to his daughter. If the facts are supported by newspapers then all we need are the titles, dates, page numbers and publisher details so that they can be verified. (eavesdropping) I think it needs to be underscored that a lot of the content that was removed was of the family scrapbook variety; not only unsourced, but inappropriate for this venue and grandiloquent in tone. 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 15:46, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stanley Leopold Fowler

Thank you again for your input but I have stated previously and will again that the sources are from articles written in 1970's therefore, again, long before the internet. There is a thread on wikipedia regarding this supported by images of the afore said articles. Obviously, no one after the era of the beginning of the internet has written about Leo Fowler. His daughter has provided a lot of evidence supported by images and documented footage. The fact that there is no weblink or published sources shouldn't diminish the fact that there is a true and accurate account of this man. Thewayweis (talk) 15:53, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I know it may seem strange but Wikipedia is not concerned with facts, only with what reliable sources have reported about a subject. If there are no reliable sources then Wikipedia cannot have an article about him I'm afraid. You mentioned newspapers before though...these would be excellent references and all we need are the names, dates and publisher details to create a reference. I chuckled

I said, 'It wasn't him'- and you said, 'It was him'! Classic :) O Fortuna!...Imperatrix mundi. 15:57, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Adams Company article - Please help me to get this accepted - The Adams Company has been in business for over 100 years so there are lots of antique items that people are interested in plus we are an American manufacturer that supply many industries

Please help me to get my article to standard so it can be published. Thank you. TACDBQ (talk) 16:16, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not seeing a clear case for this as an independent article, but there is scope for a section at Adams-Farwell. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:26, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
