New Wave songs

Because the "Artist songs" categories were already filed in Category:New Wave songs. There's no need for a song to be in Category:New Wave songs and Category:Duran Duran songs, for example, if Category:Duran Duran songs is itself sitting in Category:New Wave songs. New Wave List - Request You Slow Down

Even though what you are doing is being done in good faith adding 20 items to a list per day borders on disruptive editing. I like to verify new entries to see that they have reliable citing for the claim they are "New Wave". Hopefully they have in their article usually they don't. If I have the time I like to check to see if reliable citing can be found. If I can't although by Wikipedia rules I can delete an item immediately I like to give people a month or two to find it so most of the time I will give a warning. The only thing I will delete immediately is post 1980's acts since that falls more under revival and this list as currently structured is about the original era. Although I like to do this it is important to note that it the responsibility of person who adds an item to find a proper citing for it. If you keep on adding 20 items a day I won't have the time to do this and may just decide to delete them all which would be a shame because you have found some good obscure/forgotten acts(which unfortunately makes it harder to find citing).

What the hell New wave is, is always very debatable. If you have a view on what type of group should be on the list please use the talk page to discuss it. I noticed you are living in London are you a native of Great Britain? The reason I ask your view of what New Wave is very broad and much more typical of some Americans. I have never run into a British editor or reliable source that considers Synthpop, Alternative/Indie, Post-Punk to be New Wave. Edkollin (talk) 21:47, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Reliable Sources. Basically what they tell you is that academic sources have the highest rankings but they are hard to find for pop music acts. Music journalists who have written books or write for mainstream or non-tabloid media (New York Times, Times of London, BBC, NBC etc) are considered reliable. Tabloid media is frowned upon. Websites in general particularly fan and band websites are considered unreliable. Any type of social media or personal blogs are considered unreliable. Allmusic is considered a reliable website. Wikipedia is considered unreliable by the way. If the Wikipedia article for the group has reliable sourcing for that claims they are New Wave or a sub genre of New Wave I usually don't bother adding the cite to the list. What makes this difficult and non clear cut is as I alluded to above there is substantial disagreement even among reliable sources about what constitutes New Wave. I would definitely read the New Wave Music Wikipedia article and the articles cited in that article to get a sense of things.

Basically when you consider sources should treat it as you would if you were writing a research paper. Edkollin (talk) 22:16, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good new additions to the list Edkollin (talk) 08:27, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the April 26 additions based on article with no sourcing or unreliable sourcing such as fan or record company websites. If you want to add groups it is your responsibility to check the sourcing in the groups article to see if it is there or reliable. If not add a reliable cite or leave the group off the list. Question

Question
Hiya,

I saw that you removed the lyrics I put in Build Me Up, Buttercup. I don't care a whole lot either way, but I was confused by your note that they were "non-encyclopedic".

If you meant that in a general sense as in "this looks unprofessional," I guess everyone's got a right to their opinion.

If you meant that in a cultural way, as in "other Wikipedia song entries do not have lyrics, so this one shouldn't either," then I must look at what never was and ask "why not?"

If you meant that literally, as in "this information does not belong in an encyclopedia entry about the song" then I don't understand your definition of encyclopedic. "Comprehensive in terms of information" is the one I'm going by, comprehensive meaning "complete." The lyrics are information that is not just important but intrinsic to the song. And yes, to anticipate an argument, so is the sheet music, sure. And an .mp3 file? Why the heck not! Of course, you couldn't get the rights to post those things... but that doesn't change the definition of "comprehensive".

Genuinely curious,

Aha! Got it.

Hi Hiddenstranger,

Thanks for your answer -- the content policy was what I was looking for. One of the reasons I posted the lyrics is that there is a surprisingly sophisticated internal rhyme scheme instead of the standard ABAB pop structure. Which, I suppose, might make a good addition to the page -- so I'll do it that way. Thanks again! Proposed blackout in protest of RA 10175

Dear Hiddenstranger,

Greetings!

As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 12, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.

Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.

Thank you and maraming salamat po!

Kind regards,

Synthpop New Wave groups - You were right

Hello,
As you probably know, the discussion regarding Category:Synthpop New Wave musical groups has been closed. I can say that my opinions about this category have changed and I support its existence on Wikipedia. Nevertheless, I still think that the category may be renamed with a more appropriate sounding name or the modern electropop bands may be seperated with an independent category. I just wanted to know your opinions on that as you've created the regarding category. I'd will be grateful if you would share your them. Thank you. Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Steely Dan: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. These warnings also help us identify persistent vandals so that proper administrative action can be taken. Ahecht (TALK

Clark Datchler page

Hi,

I saw you removed my edits on Clark Datchler's page. I added links to Discogs in the singles sections and added two more singles to the lists. Did I do anything wrong? Was it the discogs links that are not ok for Wiki? In case I apologize. The two singles added are actually official. Thanks in advance --Cat italia (talk) 13:02, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: I saw your notes: I added the singles back without links. Hope it's ok. Thanks for your help --Cat italia (talk) 13:09, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and happy new year. Thank you for creating the article about Runnin' Away (Sly and the Family Stone song).

I saw your hatnote changes at Runnin' Away and Running Away, and I wonder whether all the songs should have parenthetical identifiers in their titles and one of the "regular" titles, perhaps "Running Away", should be a disambiguation page. What do you think? Do you think one song is more of a primary topic than another? — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 00:21, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Slide" genre(s)

Hi User:Hiddenstranger, I sourced all the genres on Slide (Calvin Harris song) myself a while back, but knowing what I know now I'm not sure whether the song is being called these genres or the production of the song is. Since you make important edits to many music articles, can you please take a close look at the sources and let me know if you think they're worded in a way that makes it acceptable for them to be used as genres? Here [1], [2], [3], thanks.--Theo Mandela (talk) 04:15, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

IP block exempt

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this userright to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked (through the use of CheckUser) periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).

I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. Optimist on the run (talk) 19:45, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note, this is for a period of six months. After that you will need to re-request IPBE if it is still necessary. Optimist on the run (talk) 19:45, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:04, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
