'''CLINTON CEREJO''' is a multi award winning music composer in Bollywood. He has worked as a music producer with Vishal Bharadwaj, Vishal Shekhar, Salim Sulaiman, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, and AR Rahman. Among his notable international works are vocal arrangements for If I Rise, a duet with Dido and AR Rahman;Michael Bolton’s album Gems; and the band SuperHeavy,featuring renowned artistes like Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, Damien Marley, and AR Rahman.

Known as one of the first to weave Western elements into more traditional Indian compositions, Clinton has emerged as the flag bearer for fusion music in India. His set for Coke Studio @ MTV Season 2 was declared an unequivocal success with the song Madaari clocking over 4 million hits on YouTube. His second stint with Coke Studio @ MTV Season 3 proved to be equally successful with songs like Baina, PirJalani and Pinjara.

Apart from composing music, Clinton has lent his inimitable voice to a number of Bollywood hits.

In 2013, he became the first contemporary Indian musician to be invited to conduct a residency and Master Class at the world renowned Berklee School of Music, Boston. Past clinicians have included some of the most cutting edge musicians in the world like John Mayer, Bobby McFerrin, and Paul Gilbert to name a few. So it was really a privilege to be out there in the same capacity.

Clinton’s first film as a composer was “Jugni” and that album was a vocal delight with so many fantastic singers on one album. It featured, Raahat Fateh Ali Khan, Nakash Aziz, Rekha Bhardwaj, Javed Bashir, Neha Kakkar, Jazim Sharma, Bianca Gomes, and even Vishal Bhardwaj singing a song for him. The first time he’s ever sung for another composer other than himself. And the fact that AR Rahman also had a song in this album made it all the more special.

Clinton has been composing ads for close to eighteen years now and has roughly scored well over 2,500 commercials in that time.
However the most memorable ones are the Vodafone BlackBerry Boys commercial, the Google Reunion Ad which went viral all over the world for its strong message of integration and also bagged the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award for best music. Lifebouy Gondappa was a landmark composition too which won a Gold for music at the Abby’s (Goa Fest). The Hyundai Ad with Arijit Singh in which Clinton also featured in the film as himself and created a track entirely out of car sounds that he recorded.

Clinton Cerejo has been in the news most recently for his masterful background score exuding warmth and unity in J&K Tourism’s latest promotional video.

Earlier Clinton’s work on Google Reunion “Ek DaurTha” jingle also touched hearts, minds and souls alike and earned him the prestigious “Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival” award for Best Original Music.Simple messaging backed by great music and meaningful lyrics can often go a long way in creating a memorable campaign. Clinton Cerejo has certainly mastered the art of that!

Clinton is the face of the Sufi rock band ‘Ananthaal’ and is his most adventurous work yet!

Clinton’s latest Bollywood film is the music he has composed in the film Three Storeys which is an Excel and Open Air Films production with B4U.
There’s a love song sung by Arijit Singh and Jonita Gandhi. The second track is a soothing, heartwarming number called “Aazaadiyaan” sung by Bianca Gomes and Clinton himself. And the third is a lovely pop funk composition titled “Zaroori Bewakoofi” featuring Mohit Chauhan’s vocals.

The Clinton Cerejo Band was invited to perform on the first edition of TED talks India and he composed a song especially for the occasion. The song was called ‘Lafzon Ka Kaafila’ and it was sung by Sudeep Jaipurwale & Bianca Gomes and written by Siddhanth Kaushal.

Clinton has always endeavoured to take Indian music to the rest of the world, and continues to be in the forefront of contemporary Indian music as an art form, to be experienced by a global audience.

Clinton Cerejo is an Indian music producer, film composer and singer.

Life

Clinton Cerejo was born into an academically inclined family with no known musical background. His father was an engineer at L&T and mother is a French professor. His elder brother is a software professional and his younger sister is an editor for medical journals in the United States.

He completed his graduation in Commerce from Poddar College in Mumbai and was on his way to pursue a degree in M.B.A before his friends convinced him of his musical talent.

During his younger days, he was influenced by great producers such as Quincy Jones, Trevor Horn, Arif Mardin, Stevie Wonder, Babyface, Hugh Padgham, Peter Gabriel, Roland Orzabal, and Roy Thomas Baker.

Clinton married Dominique Cerejo, who was his college friend and is now an established singer in her own right. Her melodious rendition of Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein from Rock On!! has been hugely popular.

Career

During his time at college, he would often have jam sessions with his friend Siddharth Haldipur (of music director duo Sangeet-Siddharth fame). It was on one such session that Amar Haldipur (Siddharth's father), who is a famous arranger and violinist, noticed Clinton and took a liking to his voice. Amar introduced Clinton to Anand Modak, the music director of a Marathi film Mukta and soon he was performing his first song in a recording studio. It was an English song for a Marathi film, picturised on an African-American.

After a series of sporadic recordings, he started lending his voice to many advertisement jingles. During this period he worked with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Lezz Lewis, Ranjit Barot & Louis Banks. Some of his contemporaries at that time were KK and Kunal Ganjawala, who went on to become playback singers. Clinton and Kunal sang a lot of jingles together.

Realizing that his voice was not versatile enough to be a successful jingle singer, he started looking at other areas of interest.

A. R. Rahman, while working in an adjoining studio, happened to overhear one of Clinton's vocal arrangements for a song and when they met a month later, offered Clinton the opportunity to work with him. Soon his work was noticed by many and other projects followed.

Eventually Clinton went on to work with many leading Indian music composers performing various roles in the music department. Later on he composed various songs which were featured in Coke studio. One of the famous songs is "Madari", sung by Vishal Dadlani and Sonu Kakkar.
