Khabib and Grappling

Who corrects style? I am personally familiar with Khabib and he asks to rectify me errors into the account Grappling, wrestling and sambo.

Change nationality from Russian to Avars (Caucasus)

Now information is not correct, cos he is not russian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.188.123.222 (talk) 19:07, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Khabib vs. Habib!

ohhh Lord! what a stupid person changed the name of Khabib - Habib??

Which version do you think is stupid? Хабиб in russian has NO K in it, so there is no reason to have it in english with a silent K (again something that doesnt exist in russian). if anything the idiotic english version makes it that almost everyone not familiar with the name pronounces it Kabib because they see the K in front. This has to be changed.

Dagestan

I think it should probably be mentioned that he is specifically from thejrwglnjetgnrwiejtngreaigergjnetjugn

Dagestan region of Russia. I don't really know anything about the politics around the country, but it seems relevant that many of the best wrestlers from the Russian Federation are known to come from this region. Another UFC fighter, Rustam Khabilov also comes from here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.212.248.74 (talk) 22:21, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Karelian P.:, Hello: As I previously mentioned, it is too much to also include the transliteration of his Avar name into English. I am not aware of any reliable source that uses this spelling of his name. I'm removing it again. Please do not re-add it unless you can provide a source. Additionally, there are too many name variants in the lede per WP:MOS...

Tired of seeing the 64 inch reach from his ufc.com profile listed. It just feels way too small and it's not how they're promoting him before fights:

Birthplace

There's quite a bit of contradictory information regarding Khabib's birthplace out there. Many English language outlets have it listed as Makhachkala, however, that is merely the capital of Dagestan and his current residence. Several Russian sources reference his birthplace as Silde, Tsumadinsky Dictrict. So I had updated the article with the relevant citations. However, upon continuing researching further sources, I've found that his birthplace is actually Kirovaul, Kizilyurtovsky District. This is based on an interview where he was asked and answered directly, as opposed to the third-party accounts of the various other articles.

http://www.sovsport.ru/news/text-item/511704

Another interview by his father, too, seems to match the accounts of the aforementioned article pertaining to his childhood.

https://www.sports.ru/tribuna/blogs/prosport/652388.html

Probably the most convincing piece, would be the documentary done by Match TV which is a Russian TV channel, titled Undefeated, which follows the family to his home and village. His uncle in particular mentions that his parents had moved from Silde, Tsumadinsky to the latter residence of Kirovau.

http://www.matchtv.ru/boxing/matchtvvideo_NI684341_clip_Nepobezhdennyj_istorija_Khabiba_Nurmagomedova (article)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGJulEBiuxY (video)

In the above video, beginning at the 2:00 minute mark, his father describes the same details as mentioned in the articles above. Then at the 4:00 min mark, his uncle mentions his parents resettling from Silde, and goes on to mention his brother, sister and other details of them growing up. Hopefully, this will serve as a good reference for us for dispelling any misunderstanding, in case other contributors are confused about where he was really born, as I was myself. – DA1 (talk) 12:09, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

First Muslim to win UFC title

A few people have deleted this fact, which is sourced and true, so I think we should discuss. I think it should stay (I didn't add this information, by the way). It's an interesting fact and seems quite significant in the wider scheme of things.NEDOCHAN (talk) 21:15, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agree it's sourced and seems true, certainly a fun fact and I like it. But as insignificant in a wider scheme of things as being the first Russian. Now if a Muslim (or even a Russian) wins Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, that'd be something to write home about. InedibleHulk (talk) 09:29, September 26, 2018 (UTC)

I find this to be completely irrelevant. Why is it there? It has nothing to do with the sport or his role in it. Fighters are not divided into religious groups, their religion is not a part of their branding or any of the information on screen when fighting (compared to nationality, which is).--87.72.102.66 (talk) 15:28, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's a widely quoted fact, it is sourced and I believe its inclusion adds to the article, rather than takes away from it. NEDOCHAN (talk) 09:26, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe we need a vote on this. As an experienced editor and having edited more than 200 sports pages, in my experience it is widely established that we do not mix sports and religion. We had a big discussions, (admins involved) after there were a few Muslims who were the "first Muslims to win the World Cup" and if such precedent was followed we would have "first Christian", "first Orthodox", "First Shia Muslim", "First Brahmin Hindu" and would delve into smaller and smaller sub-religions where it is just irrelevant. If you guys really think the fact that he is a Muslim is so important, maybe we can have have it in the detailed bio. It certainly is not significant enough to be in the intro. Imperial HRH2 (talk) 13:35, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And the fact that NEDOCHAN thinks Khabib being a Muslim is more important than Khabib being an undefeated fighter (for the intro) is mind-boggling.Imperial HRH2 (talk) 13:38, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This fact has no place in the introduction. If you want religion/superstition in an article about a sportsman, please put it under personal life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.72.102.66 (talk) 03:47, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you have found the discussion that you chastised me for not having taken part in. Also notice that you have reverted to your edit, rather than leave it how it was, while the discussion takes place, which is not the way things are normally done. I can see from your history that you are prone to edit wars and I certainly have no interest in starting another. You can't have your preposterous, over the top, tautology though.NEDOCHAN (talk) 07:52, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Khabib himself proudly cites the first Muslim UFC champion achievement again and again. It's covered by major media outlets and is fact of major cultural significance. He's an inspirational figue and his achievement is breaking barriers for underprivileged Muslim population around the world. But I guess facts shouldn't get in the way when a snarky Wikipedia editor is on a power trip and wants to start an edit war based on his religious hatred and bigotry. Shopnochura (talk) 16:47, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Totally agree. It's been covered widely and is significant.NEDOCHAN (talk) 19:07, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I still think it's as important (or not important) as the Russian bit. So if one stays, the other should. Both are no secret in the mass media. InedibleHulk (talk) 02:37, October 18, 2018 (UTC)

Sneaky vandalism on Wikidata

I was looking at this article on my phone and saw that the short description was "Russian condom martial artist." Suspecting that it was vandalism, I looked for the short description in the wikicode of the article but didn't find it. Then, remembering that articles without a short description used the Wikidata description, I looked there and fixed it. Anyway, don't forget to check the Wikidata entries of frequently-vandalized articles, as they may be attractive targets for vandals wishing to remain undetected. Not first russian to win UFC

Oleg Taktarov won UFC 6. The article that is quoted as a source makes the claim that he is the first but not address Taktarov's UFC 6 title nor does it make any attempt to substantiate its claim.

http://www.ufc.com/fighter/Oleg-Taktarov — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8801:D85:DF00:495D:F3F7:ABF6:FC88 (talk) 16:30, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

He won the tournament, but Dan Severn was billed as the "Ultimate Fighting Champion" heading into his superfight against "World Shootfighting Champion" Ken Shamrock right after that. So what was Taktarov's title? "UFC 6 Tournament Champion" is listed like a proper noun in his Wikipedia article, but this seems like an unofficial presumption. The tournament's promo poster doesn't claim it's for a championship. InedibleHulk (talk) 02:21, October 18, 2018 (UTC)

Mixed martial arts record: Conor McGregor

Currently, the wikipedia MMA record indicates that Khabib won via "Submission (neck crank)" (User talk:Colton Meltzer). However, this is not correct. ELABORATE on what Nurmagomedov said in his post match press conference

Currently the page only says 'apologized to the NSAC and said "You cannot talk about religion. You cannot talk about nation."'. It leaves the meaning of what he said very unclear and distorts it. He also said he wanted to transform UFC and make it about respect and remove trash talk and the context of why he said "You cannot talk about religion. You cannot talk about nation." is that he was constantly provoked on these subjects throughout the pre-match conferences and in the fight by Dillon Danis.

Oleg Taktarov won UFC 6. The article that is quoted as a source makes the claim that he is the first but not address Taktarov's UFC 6 title nor does it make any attempt to substantiate its claim.

Why is him being Muslim important?

Why is it being repeated over and over again that he is a Muslim? Why is this relevant to a professional athlete? Do all the Christian/ Hindu/ Atheist athletes' bio state that they are such and such religion? I could understand if the fact that "he is a Muslim" is stated in the bio or Early life section or somewhere further down but it is un-encyclopedic to have it as an Intro.
