Change ``However, roasting pumpkin seeds (usually scooped out of jack-o-lanterns) is a popular Halloween treat. to ``However, roasted pumpkin seeds (usually scooped out of jack-o-lanterns) are a popular Halloween treat. Grammar fix ... the seeds are eaten after being roasted, not while roasting, and the verb is currently conjugated in the singular form, whereas ``seeds is plural.

Done reworded it a bit further as the "however" was unnecessary as well Cannolis (talk) 14:24, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protected edit request -- records

The listing of record pumpkins (under "Pumpkin festivals and competitions" is four years out of date. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/kidspost/belgian-mans-pumpkin-sets-world-record-at-a-whopping-2624-pounds/2016/10/17/2c37272e-9470-11e6-bc79-af1cd3d2984b_story.html shows this year's resetting of the record. I suggest putting

"The world record for the heaviest pumpkin is 2624 pounds[cite], set October 9, 2016 in Ludwigsburg, Germany."

either after the paragraph that starts with the Topsfield record, or as a new lead to this paragraph. I prefer the new lead as it keeps the numbers in descending order and balances the listing of many U.S. records. Note that Topsfield is still noteworthy as being the first pumpkin over 2000 pounds. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.6.73.78 (talk) 13:29, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edited today. IMO, the Topsfield and other American record information is unimportant once a new record occurs, WP:NOTEVERYTHING. --Zefr (talk) 21:19, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can somebody add somewhere in there that pumpkins are berries? 2602:304:CEEC:3CB0:7039:8CA2:E281:6BE7 (talk) 23:19, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is. But I am having a hard time finding a really good reference for it, such as a university or academic journal. got one? HalfGig talk 00:58, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is probably the best source I've found. HalfGig talk 01:07, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
HalfGig. That article is a replicate of our WP entry here, where pumpkin is listed as a berry. But it's hard to find a specific source where 'berry' and 'pumpkin' are in the same sentence! --Zefr (talk) 02:27, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's hard. HalfGig talk 02:47, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But we can get there, with good sources, if we go cucurbita (which includes pumpkins) -> pepo (a type of berry). HalfGig talk 04:20, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology of Pumpkin

The Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project page claims that the word pumpkin comes from pôhpukun, meaning grows forth round. This conflicts with the page's current claim that it comes from the Greek πέπων. Ponhpukun (talk) 23:10, 27 March 2017 (UTC)Ponhpukun[reply]

Pumpkin vs Squash.

In British/Australian/NZ pumpkin is a general term for the family of orange/yellow spherical fruit. Squash is applied to very small types, such as the butternut. In New England I only head the word squash used for the edible fruit, in the supermarkets. Pumpkin referred only to the halloween variety, also available at supermarkets..202.125.31.66 (talk) 23:48, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see an issue with namechecking Sarah Frey, who is documented in multiple reliable sources as being a major US pumpkin supplier. Any other thoughts? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 23:48, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I opposed the edit because the information is trivial (no independent source could verify Frey sold 5 million pumpkins) and non-notable outside of Illinois - especially outside of USA - and the sources are WP:NOTNEWS: "most newsworthy events do not qualify for inclusion. For example, routine news reporting on things like announcements, sports, or celebrities is not a sufficient basis for inclusion in the encyclopedia." Adding such information does not inform us better about pumpkins, WP:HTRIV. --Zefr (talk) 01:21, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Circleville

Shouldn't the Circleville pumpkin show be mentioned? It is a rather huge event as far as these things go, as far as I know. Foreigners even come to Circleville for the show.89.161.45.37 (talk) 20:44, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Protection

There seems to be no longer a need for protection and I request it be removed 2602:306:CE96:AD70:4D0C:AC3A:F994:3687 (talk) 13:51, 15 September 2018 (UTC)BeaMyra[reply]
