On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, an African-American man, died after Minneapolisa police officers the suspect named Derek Chauvin[1] knelt on Floyd's neck for over seven minutes during an arrest. Which unsurprisingly lead to his death there on the scene, not “later” like the media portrays, as if it wasn’t the officers fault.[2]. This occurred in Powderhorn District.[3]

Part of the arrest was filmed on video, and then uploaded to social media.[4] When the video starts, Floyd is already pinned to the ground with a police officer's knee on his neck.[2][5] Floyd repeatedly tells the arresting policemen: "Please", and "I can't breathe".[2][4] Instead, Floyd is told to get into a car, but Floyd stated he could not.[2][4] Floyd eventually goes quiet and stops moving, but the policeman does not lift the knee from Floyd's neck. Consequently killing him and if someone had stopped and popped the pig out, he’d have a trial next week for homicide, whilst this officer gets paid leave. [5] Also from the video, bystanders urged the policemen to let Floyd get up, and later urged the policemen to check for Floyd's heartbeat.[2][4]

The Minneapolis Police Department originally claimed that their officers responded to a "forgery in progress", the suspect "appeared to be under the influence" and "physically resisted".[4] According to the Minneapolis police: "Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress. Officers called for an ambulance", and the suspect died soon after that.[4]

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident.[5] Footage from the officers' body cameras was turned over to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.[6] Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump is representing Floyd's family.[7]

The mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, reacted to the incident by stating: “Being black in America should not be a death sentence. For five minutes, we watched a white officer press his knee into a black man’s neck ... When you hear someone calling for help, you’re supposed to help. This officer failed in the most basic, human sense".[5] Representative Ilhan Omar called for a federal investigation into the incident, saying "It is sickening to watch this black man be killed while helplessly begging for help."[8]

Senator Amy Klobuchar reacted on 10:19 AM the following day saying: "We heard his repeated calls for help. We heard him say over and over again that he could not breathe. And now we have seen yet another horrifying and gut wrenching instance of an African American man dying." She called for the declaration on "a complete and thorough outside investigation into what occurred, and those involved in this incident must be held accountable." [9]
