Teachist (/ˌtɛæɪst/ t-each-ist) is a South African platform that includes a Resource Online-learning and tutoring website and mobile app. The company uses the Corporate Sponsorship business model; the app and the website are accessible without charge.

As of 30 June 2020, the Online-learning website and app offers 27 different online courses.[1][2]Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).[1][3]

Inspiration for Teachist came from the need to easily access study material during inforced lockdown regulations and closed schooling in Southern Africa. Edward Nkadimeng wanted to create a platform where students have easy access to any academic resources for free thus Teachist was born. [1]

Edward Nkadimeng was born in South Africa and saw how difficult it was for students in his community to access online study material. Vuyo Nkadimeng (born in Witbank, South Africa), co-founder of Teachist and current CTO, and Edward Nkadimeng believe that "free education will really change the world".[4]

On March 2020, Teachist launched for the general public.[4]

Business model

All-learning features in Duolingo are free of charge, but it uses periodic sponsered advertising in both its mobile and web browser applications. [4][3]

Courses for Available

As of 24 June 2020, 27 courses are available to the public in English, split across all 12 grades of the South African educational system.
