PS5 backwards compatibility

I have a question, didn't they originally say that the PS5 was supposed to be backwards compatible with all PlayStation systems (1→4)? I, for some reason, remember that was what Sony said when they originally announced the system, but now (it seems) it will only be backwards compatible with PS4 games and nothing else (which is great), but it I don't know maybe I'm mistaken. -- sion8 talk page 06:34, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty sure it’s the top 100 most played ps4 games but I can’t really remember. Jerry Steinfield (talk) 21:03, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Our section on backward compatibility needs improvement. The top 100 games was intended to serve as a snapshot to illustrate how Sony's backward compatibility work is going. The system itself will be compatible with the overwhelming majority of PS4 games at launch. Some of the references have been superseded following Sony's clarification. — Niche-gamer 10:27, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No never said any BC beyond PS4; Cerny's first reveal stuck to PS4 BC only. Its been a question of how much of the PS4 library will be. --Masem (t) 21:05, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, anything about PS1-3 compatibility has been unverified rumors and fan speculation. Sergecross73 msg me 21:39, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah sorry it was an April fools joke. Lol Jerry Steinfield (talk) 01:49, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question on the topic, if they say that downloadable and disc-based games will be compatible, so it means that if I own some downloaded game on the PS4, I can then also download it to the PS5? Jirka.h23 (talk) 07:51, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:NOTAFORUM. This is not a help desk for your personal queries. Sergecross73 msg me 16:50, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So I guess nobody knows. But if there was a source for it, it could be for sure used as an encyclopedic content. Jirka.h23 (talk) 15:05, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We can expect Sony to talk more about these features before release. Once they describe how it works in detail we'll have plenty of sources. — Niche-gamer 15:29, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So Sony has so far announced, that regarding older downloadable games, 15 games will be available within the PlayStation Plus Collection.1 But this is not about games, we have already purchased, they only offer a kind of package that can be purchased. So they still haven't commented on whether I can play already purchased downloaded games on my account on the new system. I think this will be important for many people (small library of games from the beginning of the console era). Jirka.h23 (talk) 06:57, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
They have not said anything about this, at all, so we cannot address this yet. --Masem (t) 13:07, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Specs not specific

Hi, wikipedians! I just changed high frame rates to 120 frames per second. Because high frame rate is not specific. CaptainJoseph (talk) 19:08, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

PS5 cooling system/teardown information is absent

There's no information on the page regarding newly discovered details which were released in the official teardown of the system's hardware, including the cooling system's 120mm double-sided fan, first-time use of liquid metal and a heatsink that resembles the same performance as a vapour chamber. However I don't have the technical wizardry or knowledge to explain this accurately![1][2] Noah-x3 (talk) 21:37, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Might be worth a mention if true, but those aren’t reliable sources in the Wikipedia context. Sergecross73 msg me 22:05, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I will just leave these here.[3][4][5] Others are free do with them as they feel and perhaps I will try to integrate some of it later. redspartatalk 00:25, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The PS5 is NOT RDNA 2.0-compliant

Multiple sources, both a Sony engineer and AMD, as well as Digital Foundry, the core of the 'gpu' is of the nature of RDNA 1 with *some* specifications being compatible or effectively RDNA 2.0.

https://www.aroged.com/2020/11/ps5-digital-foundry-confirms-the-lack-of-full-support-for-the-rdna-2-architecture PettrK (talk) 19:41, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We need this to be reported on an RS (listed on WP:VG/S), we can't use that site, nor that it happened on Resetera as a basis. We already say its a custom RNDA2, and that's the best I that RSes report it. --Masem (t) 19:50, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can tell from a quick google search, Microsoft are claiming that they have the only fully RDNA2 integrated console, but given the fact that Microsoft is their competitor, I wouldn't consider them to be a reliable source. Chieftain Tartarus (talk) 12:23, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hardware section broke up into paragraphs

One of the main things I edited on this article was breaking up the Hardware section into neat sub-sections. However, a user keeps reverting this. I'm curious as to why. The hardware section of every other console article is broken up into sub-sections and the way it was before, without paragraphs or sub-sections, was a total mess. I also re-ordered some of the information to make it flow more logically.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=PlayStation_5&oldid=989297903 vs https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=PlayStation_5&oldid=989312550

Is this not more cleaner and easier to read?

Also what exactly is a "model SoC performance profile"? I added a clarification needed tag to that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Граймс (talkcontribs) 07:40, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

May I propose you edit the article at a pace slower. If the article contains muddled or incorrect information, start there first, giving pause for editors to review the changes. Thank you. — Niche-gamer 13:36, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Just that the first time you had done this, you pulled in a number of sources that we considered unreliable for WP; the second time doesn't do that so that's better - most of the character text addition appears to be in the archiveurl/date stuff related to that. The new changes actually seem fine. However, the only concern I have is that when we talk consoles, the big thing is the CPU/GPU and those other internals - size and shape are generally the last thing of importance, so the order is off (even if that's how its done on other console articles). --Masem (t) 15:29, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can "Indonesia suffering longer PlayStation 5 launch date which dated on January 22, 2021." be changed to something more grammatically correct such as: "In Indonesia, the PlayStation 5 is set to launch later on January 22, 2021"? Icedmorning (talk) 22:43, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Reasonable. --Masem (t) 22:53, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
