Disclaimer

Since I'm still not very experienced with wikipedia editing, I thought I should leave this message for anyone who wants to bug me. Yes - I am not good at wikipedia markup, formatting, references, categories, all that stuff. No - I'm not working for anybody, my main goal is to create articles which I may have liked to see here myself, say, ten years ago. And I only edit or create articles on subjects that I am relatively knowledgeable about, that interest me. Changing the formulation of an article that doesn't interest me in the slightest is NOT my thing. So please, people, be patient with me; just because I'm useless at some things doesn't mean I'm useless at everything. Those who are better at those things are always welcome to correct what I've done, but I firmly believe that an imperfect article is better than none at all. February 2018

Hello, Jules TH 16. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but  Draft:Casty has been deleted as meeting WP:CSD#G11. "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION." These must be rewritten from scratch from "reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject." See WP:RS.

Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Users who do so may be blocked from editing. Promotional content is vigorously deleted. Wikipedia:Identifying_blatant_advertising#Typical_signs_of_blatant_advertising contains information about content to avoid. For more information on content that may be perceived as promotional, click User:Dlohcierekim/promo.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources . Template:cite has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{references}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there.

My first attempts at creating articles were deleted too. --Dlohcierekim (talk) 11:05, 25 February 2018 (UTC) I am discouraged. And I don't see myself attempting to write a Wikipedia article anytime soon again. Not after pouring so much work into this one, and actually analysing all the Inducks statistics in order to give a good overview of the collaborations... I am not "connected" in any way to the subject, apart from being a fan of the creator - but who else other than fans write articles about creators anyway? Should I start writing Wikipedia articles about creators I don't like? Ludicrous.Jules TH 16 (talk) 21:36, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jules TH 16, these reviews should do it regarding notability. However, could you please summarize them in your words (either separately or in one summary statement), then attach the references to that statement? I have named the refs ":1" through "4:" - just move the tags that now sit loose under "Reception" to the end of a sentence/paragraph that they pertain to (after the punctuation). Also, please see if you can source the information in the lede - there's no indication where, e.g., that bit about 5000 copies comes from. Cheers --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 10:28, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My problem is that I have fantastic memory (and I only edit articles about subjects that I am knowledgeable about) but I'm useless at references :(

My copy actually has a sticker on it that says "Strictly limited to 5.000 copies worldwide"...

But anyway, I tried my hand at it. Hopefully it's OK now. Jules TH 16 (talk) 10:50, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Found quite good proper sources for andrea castellan "casty"

Hi, I noticed you tried to get a article regarding Casty published, but it is currently lacking proper references according to wikipedia, but I noticed there are a lot of media publications featuring Casty and his work posted att Casty's facebook page, which could be used. I have pasted one in the article with instructions, since I found your writing good I thought it would be best if you would like to check these sources out and add the proper text and sources to the Casty article instead of me finishing it up. Use google translate on the italian. Best regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.226.181.169 (talk) 13:05, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment and the help, but I'd actually prefer it if you finished the article up for me instead (and possibly helped me out on the Massimo De Vita article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jules_TH_16/Massimo_De_Vita ). I've spent way too much time on it already. Plus I don't have facebook...

And I just realised that the Italian Wiki page has NO references whatsoever! If that is allowed, why am I being pestered so much?! Sigh...Jules TH 16 (talk) 13:54, 24 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's because the different language WP:s make up their own policies and guidelines, and implement them as they are able. NO references may be against their PAG:s too, but perhaps nobody noticed that article. Wikis can be uneven like that. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:45, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply in the teahouse thread, Gråbergs Gråa Sång, I had to step out because it was starting to affect me personally. Sadly, neither of the two projects seems to be interested in Disney comics (one is all about comics, but not by Disney, the other only seems to concern Disney films... I will try to ask though.) I have found more sources - well, if anybody can make use of this: http://www.fumettologica.it/?s=Casty There are several articles about Casty, interviews with him and more, but because I can't read Italian and Google Translate screws up the layout so it's unreadable, somebody else can perhaps kindly work these references into my text...

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Marbles (album), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brave. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Information icon Hello, I'm Doniago. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Trip the light fantastic, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please note that genius.com is not a reliable source. Thank you for your understanding! DonIago (talk) 02:03, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know the problem with online lyrics sites, but in this case, Genius was correct. Would printed lyrics of a CD suffice? https://img.discogs.com/-1OMWbgJDBXHJ8Y_N4W3C_0F4G8=/fit-in/600x594/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-9013253-1483468918-2093.jpeg.jpg
Also, this seems to be one of those cases where sourcing is starting to look odd. Anyone can listen to the song online and confirm that the lyrics as I quoted them actually appear in the song. Jules TH 16 (talk) 09:05, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jules, thanks for getting back to me.
Personally I think it would be best to provide a source that actually discusses the occurrence of the phrase in the lyrics, to satisfy any WP:IPCV concerns, but that may be an outlying opinion. If you disagree, you're welcome to raise the question at the article's Talk page.
I don't believe the link you provided would constitute a reliable source as no context is provided and there's no clear indication that the lyrics listed are "official".
Hope this is helpful. Again, thanks for getting back to me with your concerns! DonIago (talk) 14:35, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The context is that is a scan of this official CD reissue booklet: https://www.discogs.com/de/Flash-And-The-Pan-Flash-And-The-Pan-/release/9013253 (click on images to enlarge)
But if I want to split hairs, I've seen wrong lyrics printed on official releases. And if I were to use the Discogs link, someone is going to tell me Discogs is not a reliable source either.
I doubt I'm going to find a source that satisfies demands. Oh well. Jules TH 16 (talk) 17:11, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well... I found one. What do you think? https://www.stereostories.com/walking-in-the-rain-by-grace-jones/ A blog, but better than nothing! Edit: And another one: https://www.hotpress.com/music/nightclubbing-492589 Jules TH 16 (talk) 17:22, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, 2EARfm has a radio program called "Trip The Light Fantastic". According to this website, "my good friend Macman, a.k.a. Neil Mack will be tripping the light fantastic on 2EARFM in the third of his series of albums Fifty Years On. Macman’s show takes its name from a lyric in the Grace Jones’ song Walking In the Rain. She sings “Trip the light fantastic, dance the swivel hips” originally composed and recorded by Australian band Flash and the Pan." Trivial? Maybe? Jules TH 16 (talk) 17:27, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What concerns me, though other editors may disagree, is that the first two links you provided just appear to refer to uses of the phrase, with no clear indication that they're objectively considered significant (also, blogs typically aren't reliable sources, but that's a secondary point). If we were talking about Citizen Kane and these links were used in the article, I'd remove them as clear violations of WP:IPCV in that they wouldn't be discussing Kane in any detail; just passing mention. I'm not entirely sure how that applies to the use of a phrase, but I'd like to see sources that spend a bit more time on it rather than just, "Oh, it's in this song." And really, the sources don't even say that, they just list lyrics of which the phrase is a part. There's no context.
I think The Beagle link is actually more interesting, as it presents the phrase with some context, though I'm not really sure whether the show being discussed is especially significant. Still, it's better, IMO, than, "this song contains this phrase."
Again though, this is just my opinion, and you're welcome to ask the question at the article's Talk page, as other editors may have opinions that differ from my own.
Thanks for spending the time and energy to discuss this with me! DonIago (talk) 20:30, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

American politics discretionary sanctions notice

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

No CDs in the 50's

You cleverly caught an obvious goof on the Wiki page for Russ Freeman (pianist). A musical recording from the 1950's is an LP, not a CD. I saw your correction, and when I checked out your personal Wiki page, the Tears for Fears reference jumped out and instantly told me that you're my latest Twitter buddy. It's a small world here on the Internet! Thanks for the needed edit, and you're cordially invited to visit me anytime at www.youtube.com/channel/UCtOcHtgL8K9T22KMN13ApMQ or at www.facebook.com/paula.k.freeman. Jules please help.

Hi. I am not a user of Wiki. I am however a reader. I also read The Palmer Report.

Can you please tell John Paos to stop bashing us readers AND Palmer Report? I thought this site was neutral but I am reading things from John calling all of us readers "cult members", Bill Palmer "mentally ill", all of his readers crazy and now he is starting in on the contributing writers saying they are evil because they promote the "very fine people" narrative. Look, it is obvious he's a MAGA. that is fine. But I thought Wiki was supposed to be impartial. At the very least, I did not think they engaged in conduct like this. He was also talking about Palmer Report's tweets and begging to put them in here.

I am concerned. I do not know nor have ever met Mr. Palmer but I am a fan of his work. So are millions of others. I'd like to think Wiki is without bias but watching what is playing out is disturbing.

Because of a variety of factors I cannot create an account. Please do something. At least discipline this rogue editor. I see he has many warnings but he is getting worse and it really makes Wiki look terrible.

Respectfully

Nora.
