Hi there @Art of Amina Cubahiro:! Good to meet you. Are you asking in terms of adding an already uploaded photo to a page? The basic details can be seen by clicking on the link, but in summary: go to the page you'd like the image on (using the Visual Editor - looks a bit like Word), click the "insert" tab and press "images and media". Then you just need to type in a search term and it'll search for you. If you're looking to upload a photo of your own, you'll need an account that's 4 days old and has 10 edits, but I'll happily help with that if you need a hand.

@Atanuroy2021: hi there, good to meet you. First thing to do in cases like this is look at the page history so you can see any reason given by the person reverting. In this case, they said "Addition of unnecessary/inappropriate external links". This is likely correct - you added a link by going [www.etc.com words] rather than actually adding a normal reference. Wikipedia doesn't allow external links in the body of an article, but the plus side is it's easier to do references - just take a look at Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor/1.
One other possible reason for the reversion - other than with short articles, it's quite common for the lede at the top to not be referenced, with the references going in the full text below or in the infobox.
If you do this stuff and still get reverted then I'll show you how to ask the reverter - discussing content disagreements is key, but may not yet be needed.

Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

How can you remove an inaccurate picture in the "background information" box? Also, this image is from a series of images for the band Groove Collective (the only ones other than the one I just uploaded but the images are all from a show that only has two members so not officially Groove Collective. Hi @DropCount: - welcome to Wikipedia. You can remove that image by clicking edit on the article, and removing "Groove Colective durante el Festival Barroquísimo en el Zócalo de Puebla 10.jpg" from the "image =" line at the top. However, you should clarify why it is inaccurate in the edit summary. If someone reverts your removal, then please don't try and reimplement it. At that stage, you should take it to article's talk page and ping the user to discuss it with them.
If you want to the photo's attribution you'll need to go onto Wikimedia Commons and amend it there, however, your permissions may not suffice to let you do that - you rename pages by "moving" them, and that usually requires accounts to have some edits on that site. For the moment, though non-ideal, best to work on the article here. Nosebagbear (talk) 22:19, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Pixellot - Why it was deleted again?

Hello,

On 21:48, 30 May 2021 you have restored a page Draft:Pixellot.

I was working on it, rewrote it, added links, removed promotional text and only relied on real facts I could back up.

On 06:42, 4 August 2021 Materialscientist, deleted the page Draft:Pixellot.

Why? Could you tell me what is "Unambiguous advertising or promotion" about it? We looked at so many other companies with pages on Wikipedia and followed the same line. Is it possible to restored so that we could keep working on it?

@Sundahan: firstly, please make sure to sign any talk page message with ~~~~
When I restored it, the draft was already somewhat promotional - including non-neutral language, or excluding negative coverage, or distinctly reading as if its purpose is to sell rather than provide a neutral summary. Your amended version did indeed cross into this category multiple times. For example, the system also incorporates graphics and advertising seamlessly into the production. or A rich set of coaching tools - both providing positive, marketing phrasing "seamlessly" and "rich", just to give two instances. As it had already been deleted on problematic grounds, you were obliged to be twice as careful as a lower threshold would be applied. It is unlikely that the draft will be allowed to be recreated at this instance, but you'll need to talk to the most recent deleting admin in any case. @NPFictionLibrarian: there aren't any conditions on which it can be returned - it's not legal to permit copyrighted content that we don't have proper permission to use. However. I have duplicated the sources to your userspace, which should hopefully make it significantly easier to re-write, paraphrasing properly. @CustosMorumIndia: - I've moved it to Draft:Amar Shaheed Krushnarao Kakade. If it doesn't automatically load visual editor/offer it to you (it will look extremely different - a bit like MS Office if you've seen it), click the drop-down menu in the top-right of the box. Currently you've added external links (something you can't do in the main body of the text). this page will show you just how much easier it is to add references in visual editor, if they're online. @Vice regent: just to confirm I have seen this. I've been medically unable to edit for around a week, so am catching up to an insane backlog (just, you know, ARBCOM, DS, UCOC, Movement Charter application, BOT elections...nothing big!). I've seen RP's amended evidence and it's not as clear. I will take another look before the deadline on whether I still believe it necessitates an evidence review - but a lack of comment can be taken to mean there isn't a clear aspect needing it (I apply a fairly high standard). @AshishPoudel02: Hi there, welcome to Wikipedia.
I would say there are a few issues with the current form due to our requirement for neutral phrasing. Comments like Garima's mind is equally tender and clean, knowing how to treat everyone well., due to her hard work, talent and good fortune. There's not a second audience are disappointed with her performance. She has given her best., From her childhood, she seems very cute, simple, and ordinary girl coupled with things like emotes and signing off with Created by Biggest Supporter of all time🥰AP make the article read somewhat advertorial to us.
I'm afraid when it comes to articles we're pretty dry when it comes to text choices - neutral and with sourcing. A good way to start is amending the examples I gave (I just gave a few examples, they aren't the only ones). Hello Nosebagbear,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

@Oloriebi234: Given the circumstances you were unblocked in were fairly unlikely, it is now necessary for you to be ultra-careful about what you write. My core suggestions would be as follows:

1) Don't try to start any new articles or drafts from scratch for at least 3 months. It's MUCH harder than adding to a new article

2) Practice making small edits on articles. Good examples include finding a reference, or adding in a sentence or two that was missing but was in a pre-existing source.

3) Don't pick articles that you either have (or have had) any particular link to, or feel an emotional attachment to. For example, there is an article on where I used to live, but don't edit because I would struggle to do so neutrally.

4) Have a read of some "hot-button" articles and some larger company articles (e.g. google), and see the more neutral, even "dull" phrasing used. Nosebagbear (talk) 09:16, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration

  • A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
  • Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
  • The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Miscellaneous

  • Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
  • The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.

@SkyHighEnt615: hi there, and welcome to Wikipedia.
A couple of questions: I assume you have a link to this label - could you describe what it is, as you will need to comply with our paid editing rules or risk being blocked. This shouldn't have much impact on your request.
I will however also note that writing an article from scratch is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia - we normally suggest having a couple of hundred edits in practice on pre-existing pages to get an understanding. Your Homepage dashboard will have some ideas. However, if you still want to go ahead, I'd suggest the following:
  1. Firstly, please get back about my paid-editor query (you don't need to be specifically paid for your edits, just any time of paid link will count).
  2. Then, see if you can find 3-4 sources about the label that are: reliable, independent (this also rules out interviews), in-depth (roughly 10+ lines about the label each, excluding quotes) and, critically, secondary (e.g. newspapers, academic reviews etc). If you let me know about them I can tell you whether these may be sufficient to show it is notable. Most businesses don't warrant an article.
  3. Read through Help:Introduction, working your way down the right-hand "visual-editor" path. This will cover the basics on how to actually edit and save you a whole bunch of time.
  4. It's very detailed, but your first article will cover everything you need to know, including how to get the ball rolling by creating a draft. Nosebagbear (talk) 11:53, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Miamadison: - hi there, welcome to Wikipedia. Three main bits to my answer:
  1. Would it be reasonable that you are (in some sense) working for this company, either as an employee, contractor, or hired to do the translation? This won't prohibit you editing, but comes with a couple of additional rules to avoid being blocked. Please let me know first if this is the case so I can run you through disclosure and the rules.
  2. I'm not a translator, but some research indicates that Help:Translation is what you're looking for (click on it to go there). I normally highlight specific sections, but in this case, it's almost all worth reading. One specific aspect is that you can't use the translation tool until you're "extended-confirmed" (have an account with 500 worthwhile edits and is 30 days old), though you can still do a more manual translation, which it also explains
  3. I'd like to stress that the article will need to meet English Wikipedia standards. En-wiki has stricter inclusion rules for companies than most articles (see here). It's possible the translation therefore should not be included here. For the process of adding sources have a look at Help:Introduction (you'll want the right-hand visual editor path). Unblock for SnatchBot?

Hi, I use SnatchBot as an educational tool and think it worth an entry. When I went to check if anyone had done one, I found that in 2017 SnatchBot/someone had repeatedly attempted to create one, which led to a permanent block: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snatchbot. Now in 2021, a quick check shows they have hundreds of results on Google Books and Google Scholar that would make for reliable, neutral, references. There are a couple of interesting quotes from their founders on AI. I've drafted how I think it might look in my sandbox. What do you think? Sufficiently noteworthy?

@Seleucus123: hi, one quick note first - when you create a new section, please make sure you do so at the bottom of a talk page - that the Wikipedia standard, and is where everyone looks. It's also better to attach a link to your sandbox (or whichever page you're referring to) unless it's going to be just a couple of lines.
Anyway, I'd certainly say that the "A7" speedy deletion (which basically means it couldn't even claim to be significant) grounds no longer applies, but I'd have to actually be able to read the sources to judge whether it was actually notable. However, why not just submit it to Articles for Creation? A reviewer there, if they think it looks good, will sort out the article-creation block (often referred to as "salting"). The restriction is only on an actual article existing, so a draft is fine.
I would be particularly careful of content phrasing that makes it look promotional. The two big quotes do that - I'd suggest 1 quote max in a piece this long. Lists of use-cases are especially big warnings of "promotional, delete on sight". Give the most common usage, here, education. We don't need to know server location, and especially we don't care what's in the sales book. Sources in general - reduce, it's so much better to have 5 good sources than 15 iffy ones. It redirected me to an admin page that doesn't seem appropriate for this kind of request but seems to be for rather urgent matters. RfA 2021 review update

Thanks so much for participating in Phase 1 of the RfA 2021 review. 8 out of the 21 issues discussed were found to have consensus. Thanks to our closers of Phase 1, Primefac and Wugapodes.

The following had consensus support of participating editors:

  1. Corrosive RfA atmosphere
    The atmosphere at RfA is deeply unpleasant. This makes it so fewer candidates wish to run and also means that some members of our community don't comment/vote.
  2. Level of scrutiny
    Many editors believe it would be unpleasant to have so much attention focused on them. This includes being indirectly a part of watchlists and editors going through your edit history with the chance that some event, possibly a relatively trivial event, becomes the focus of editor discussion for up to a week.
  3. Standards needed to pass keep rising
    It used to be far easier to pass RfA however the standards necessary to pass have continued to rise such that only "perfect" candidates will pass now.
  4. Too few candidates
    There are too few candidates. This not only limits the number of new admin we get but also makes it harder to identify other RfA issues because we have such a small sample size.
  5. "No need for the tools" is a poor reason as we can find work for new admins

The following issues had a rough consensus of support from editors:

  1. Lifetime tenure (high stakes atmosphere)
    Because RfA carries with it lifetime tenure, granting any given editor sysop feels incredibly important. This creates a risk adverse and high stakes atmosphere.
  2. Admin permissions and unbundling
    There is a large gap between the permissions an editor can obtain and the admin toolset. This brings increased scrutiny for RFA candidates, as editors evaluate their feasibility in lots of areas.
  3. RfA should not be the only road to adminship
    Right now, RfA is the only way we can get new admins, but it doesn't have to be.

Please consider joining the brainstorming which will last for the next 1-2 weeks. This will be followed by Phase 2, a 30 day discussion to consider solutions to the problems identified in Phase 1.
