Infectious coryza in chickens (filter log)
Description
Will not accept "cocks" as the name for male chickens

Declined – Edits were vandalism. Very sneaky vandalism, but vandalism nonetheless. This was not an attempt to identify a male chicken, at least not in the edits that were actually blocked (the filter hits were edits regarding symptoms of a disease, where this name would not be appropriate). Taking Out The Trash (talk) 22:16, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not convinced this was vandalism. Maybe someone who knows more about ornithology or veterinary science could chime in, but I don't know what the previous text in the diff, "wattles of corks", could possibly refer to. As far as I know, a "cork" is not any part of bird anatomy, whereas a wattle is a body part of birds that is often more prominent in males. It's not clear to me why "[the word 'cock'] would not be appropriate" in an article specifically about a disease affecting chickens, where information about how it affects males vs. females could be relevant. Further, the IP has several other edits to pages about animal diseases and I don't see any pattern of bad-faith edits, quite the opposite.
Also, even if you still think this edit was vandalism, they still have several live edits up at the page, and some from a similar IP in the same range (although I don't see any actual introduced problems). In fact, the page currently contains the text "c_o_c_k_s" which is obviously just a way to evade the filter. So this situation has not been fully dealt with in either case. 70.175.192.217 (talk) 22:32, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like a reasonable edit to me. If there's a desire to say "rooster" instead or some such, that's a matter for the article's talk page, not something that should be prevented as vandalism. I've un-obfuscated the filter bypass. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 03:53, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done – The edit for this report has been implemented, however no changes to the filter were made. 70.175.192.217 (talk) 00:22, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@IsabelCanoe: Sorry about the false positive. For the future, it's often better to report the false positive than try get around the issue; usually less frustrating for you, and easier for someone to merge in your changes. Since you've edited the same prose since, it's hard for me to figure out which parts you want to keep. You can find your edit text in Special:AbuseLog/31453703 though, if you don't have a local copy saved. Also worth noting that most filters won't bother you after you get 'autoconfirmed' (in 2 days time).
Regarding the false positive, pinging Ohnoitsjamie as filter maintainer; will email you. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 13:03, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Suffusion of Yellow: I think you've discussed this filter before but I don't think generic words like this should be part of a private 'LTA' filter, assuming these words should all be disallowed anyway. Think it's worth splitting this up into the badwords filters (where appropriate, and logging the rest)? ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 13:10, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ProcrastinatingReader: I still have no idea which LTA this is supposed to be tracking. But it sure seems to be functioning as a general-vandalism-and-personal-attacks filter, so mabye we can just make 1053 pubic? QEDK seems inactive right now, but I'll still give them a chance to reply. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 21:04, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done though a change to the filter may be needed. I'm not sure why the edits were triggering the vandal phrases filter, but nonetheless the edits are inappropriate. Your user page is not the place to tell the world about yourself, but rather to create a page that explains who you are in the context of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation. Also note that Wikipedia is not a free web host. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 19:30, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The 260 hit was over "my ass", which does seem like an inclusion that could lend itself to false positives. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 04:44, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done though a change to the filter may be needed. No real point in proxying an edit to the sandbox that will be overwritten soon enough. However, might be worth discussing if 1,062 should exempt the sandbox. Even if it allows in some actual rickrolling, that's harmless if it's only happening in the sandbox. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 22:23, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Done and a change to the filter may be needed. I think the filter should allow for the removal of CSD tags labelled G7 and U1. The filter was created so people didn't remove CSD tags, but I think that this shouldn't be happening for G7 or U1. Train of Knowledge (Talk) 23:40, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A false positive, but I don't think it can be added in its current form, since it describes multiple living people as LGBTQ without sourcing (see WP:BLP). Instead, I've posted on the article's talk page for if anyone wants to find sources. IP2A02, you're welcome to comment there as well: Talk:Academy Award for Best Director § Edit filter false positive that would need sourcing to add. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 22:30, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

True positive on a technical level, but the string in question is valid in the context of this article... only issue is that the whole article is promotional right now, and reverting the promotional edits would remove the place that OP is trying to insert this. @ProcrastinatingReader: If you'll pardon my rustiness with EFFP norms, should this be put on hold until the COI issue is resolved? I've left the OP {{uw-paid1}} for now. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 22:12, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
