Shortcut

This page is used to request the usurpation of a username currently registered by another account. The usurpation policy is very specific in the cases where this may be done, so please read it first. Exceptions to the policy will not be considered.

In order for a usurpation to be considered, all of the following criteria must be satisfied. It is the responsibility of the user requesting the usurpation to demonstrate fufillment.

  • Only usernames that have never been used for editing may be usurped. Any edit, to any page on Wikipedia, in any namespace, prevents usurpation. Actions that are logged (including image uploads and page moves, but not including account creation) are considered "edits" for the purposes of this policy. There are no exceptions to this rule.
  • The user requesting to usurp the unused username must leave a message on the talk page of the desired name, using {{subst:usurpation requested}}, notifying the user of the request to usurp. The user must provide a link to this message when making their usurpation request.
  • The template demonstrated below must be filled out exactly. Failure to submit any of the required information is cause for the request to be rejected. Bureaucrats will not go searching for information; it is the responsibility of the user requesting the usurpation to provide all the necessary information on this page.

Process

  • You must fill in the template as shown below. This will produce a request with all the necessary information for your request to be processed.
  • You must leave a message on the talk page of the username you want to usurp. You should use {{subst:usurpation requested}} ~~~~ to create the message.
  • A bureaucrat or other designated user will email the username to be usurped. Please do not email the user yourself.
  • Unless the user who currently has the username responds and consents to the usurpation, the request will remain here for thirty (30) days. This is to allow sufficient time for the user to be notified and object to the usurpation. If no objection is registered within the 30 days, and no edits are made with the account, the usurption will be fufilled.
  • Users who are renamed in order to make way for a usurpation will be moved to "Usurped X," "X" being a consecutive numbering system. The first username to be usurped will be moved to "Usurped 1," and so on. This will prevent moving the user to a name that could later need to be usurped. If a user consents to a usurpation and specifies a new username preference, that username will be used instead of the numbered placeholders, if available.
  • Requests are organized by date, in order to make it obvious which requests have filled their 30 day period. Requests will be filled on the 31st day (that is, one day after the 30 days expires) unless a bureaucrat is unavailable on that day; requests will not be filled sooner than the 31st day. Requests will be archived by a bot after being filled.

Humm, as I understood it, you want to take over the account in question in order to make it a doppelganger and prevent future impersonation. If that's the case, perhaps you wouldn't want to have your main account renamed to that (usurpation is really two renames, performed on two accounts). Maybe you might want to create a new account and use it to usurp, so as to preserve your current identity, which you don't seem to want to give up; at least as far as I understood it.  Not done I'm sorry, but we are not permitted to usurp usernames that have made edits. It's not a case of "adopting" the edit; in order for you to take the username, it has to be renamed to something else. Our policy is that anyone who has made any edit must be credited for thier work under the username they used to make it, unless they consent to being renamed.
