Release date

The sources that were attached to this seemed to make no mention of the supposed release date, and were rightly removed. But now it seems we have a confirmed source [1]. Rehevkor 00:34, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's hard to cite a source when the source is a live streaming conference. But I think I found the main reason for you not seeing the link is because IGN redirected you to the UK version of the page which does not have the updated release date. The US page is updated.
It's also pretty annoying that other editors choose to remove information rather than help to find sources for it when its obvious that I'm not trying to base this off some random Amazon release date that was made up. Even if you believed it to be "fake," any search about "Dead Space 2 release date" will return several articles on Google that talks about the release date. When I initially entered it in the only source was the conference, by the time the first revert happened it was well after an hour after I had put in the date and by that point several gaming news sites have already put up articles referencing it. I guess its just easier to just remove the reference and make other people do the work. Turfing pages is annoying, but if you're going to turf maybe try to help improve the page instead of trying to be some kind of enforcer for the page. Strongsauce (talk) 01:24, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You did not provide a verifiable source. I asked you do do so but you did not. You may be alienated by this but that's how this works here. We've been doing this since the game was announced, it doesn't hurt to wait a bit longer. Cheers. Rehevkor 02:14, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Did you not read what I wrote at all? You are in the UK, IGN did not update their UK page, hence you could not see a "verifiable source." Strongsauce (talk) 18:44, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to add the information, it's up to you to find the source for it. It wasn't obvious you weren't making it up, as the page I saw said 25 January 2010. IGN redirects etc may be responsible, but it wouldn't have been so hard to mention it on the article's/Rehevkor's/my talk page, and cite these news sites, at the same time as you were editing, would it? Perhaps the world was going to end if the release date wasn't up as soon as it was mentioned in the conference? Geoff B (talk) 19:11, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
When you select the appropriate country at the age verification page on http://deadspace.ea.com/ it lists the US release date as the 25th of January 2011 and the UK release date as 28th January 2011. Jim028 (talk) 09:57, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Multiplayer Beta

If anyone has any additional information about the beta please add it. I put it up because Joystiq and 1up mentioned it and I happen to have gotten the email with a key last night. I could put first hand info up there but would rather have a credible source talk about the gameplay (which is similar to left 4 dead) before adding it to the page.--  Grimbear13 ►Talk  16:37, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Setting Year

Dead Space (video game) takes place in 2414 (see the game article for a source where a member of the dev team mentions the year), DS2 takes place three years later, which is 2417. However, there's no source stating it is definitively 2417, so it may technically be original research/synthesis to say so. IPs are currently changing it to 2511, also unsourced, and I'd love to remove the year entirely and avoid this issue, but I know it won't stay removed. Geoff B (talk) 11:44, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Routine calculations such as this generally are permitted. But I recall there being some confusion on the date of the setting of DS1, something about conflicting sources? Rehevkor 14:47, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that's something, thank you. There have been quite a few different dates added to the DS article, so it would not surprise me. The series has seen several different projects from different creators, one or all of whom could have fluffed the date. Geoff B (talk) 15:29, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is some controversy in the date: in this video Ian Milham, the artdirector of the game states that "Dead Space is set about 500 years from now, 2414 specifically", but in Dead Space: Aftermath teaser there is another chronology: the artifact was uncovered in apr 6, 2508. I think, there should be a reference in the game itself.--Scorp27 (talk) 21:16, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Plot section length

I have reverted the plot section to a previous state because the new version was turning into a step-by-step description, as opposed to the concise, albeit very short plot summary we had before. Eik Corell (talk) 11:01, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't change it to a "concise" plot summary, you changed it to what was essentially the blurb on the back of the box. That's a synopsis, not a plot. --86.143.24.5 (talk) 15:36, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The plot section is designed to be a concise summary, basically. Indeed the first one was short, but it had reliable sources for all the info, which the new version doesn't. Eik Corell (talk) 15:49, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"The plot section is designed to be a concise summary..." Yes, of the whole plot, not just the opening two minutes. And if the game itself isn't a reliable source, I don't know what is. Yes, have other sources, but in their absence, the game itself is fine as a citation. --86.143.24.5 (talk) 15:55, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The deluge of detail that gets added (intensely often) for the next few weeks, and then merely regularly for the next few months is a bloody pain. Very prone to ballooning, these things. So if we can do some judicious pruning when it swells, that should keep us on top of it. Geoff B (talk) 16:03, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but pruning is meant to rid something of extraneous details, not cut back to the very roots. --86.143.24.5 (talk) 16:05, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my concern was that if it kept at this pace, the article would end up in the "And then John walked over to Jane, and then he says this, then she says that, and then he turns around and--" type of plot section that's all too common on video game articles on wikipedia, so my idea was to start over. Eik Corell (talk) 17:10, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Aye, sadly, that is what happens. It's just peeping over 700 now. Trim, trim, and trim again. Geoff B (talk) 01:22, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just a suggestion you need to explain in the plot synopsis why Isaac decides to follow Diana and ignore Strauss. Its because Diana says she has a cure for Isaac's dementia. It's an important side note.
If you can do it and keep the plot under 700 words, that's fine by me! Geoff B (talk) 12:56, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reception

Err....the game should have the criticaly acclaimed on It. Because It has a 90/100. Anything in the 90's Is critticaly acclaimed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.203.112.147 (talk) 14:55, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A page for Issac.

Does anyone else think this guy is moving toward being worthy of his own page? He is in three games (including ignition) and two of them are staring roles, and even in a comic as a small cameo in Extraction's comic. I think personally his suit is quite recognizable, I mean the three lights on his helmet are pretty well known I think in the gaming community, especially now that both main series games (which he stars in) are doing great reception wise.Jokersflame (talk) 02:02, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, to back up my point, he has a cameo in Dante's Inferno, Skate 3, and Dragon Age II.Jokersflame (talk) 02:02, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. I'm seconding that, what with the new game coming out in a few months. -017Bluefield (talk) 22:36, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disability issue section

I can sort of see why people might be removing it. Although it has reliable sources, its overall impact on the article is minimal. It's basically a short bout of coverage for something that is, quite frankly, not really important to the article. Eik Corell (talk) 16:28, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While only effecting a small audience, the issue did receive some coverage, so it should at least be mentioned somewhere, not sure which would be the best place though. Rehevkor 14:13, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Soundtrack articles

These two articles have been bugging me, the who articles are near-identical, basically copy/paste jobs with questionable sources to boot. Anyone got any ideas for the best way to deal with these? Personally I think merging into this article would be the best option. Rehevkor 13:15, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gone ahead and merged them into one article. Rehevkor 10:55, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article for a Mr. Isaac Clarke

Just so you all know: Isaac Clarke (note: it's currently a stub). —017Bluefield (talk) 06:54, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
