Trivia
I have heard the following piece of trivia but I do not know how to verify it:
When de Castella came in the top 10 in the 1988 olympic marathon, he was the first (only?) person to achieve that feat 3 (consecutive?) times.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? Rocksong 04:42, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
3 top ten Olympic marathon finishes
de Castella was not the first to achieve it, or indeed the last...
Samuel Ferris of Great Britain came 5th in 1924, 8th in 1928 and 2nd in 1932. Kenji Kimihara of Japan finished 8th in 1964, 2nd in 1968 and 5th in 1972. Karel Lismont of Belguim who came 2nd in 1972, 3rd in 1976 and 9th in 1980
after Deek, Steve Moneghetti came 5th in 1988, 7th in 1996 and 10th in 2000 and Eric Wainaina of Kenya came 3rd in 1996, 2nd in 2000 and 7th in 2004
Deek, Moneghetti and Lismont all competed in four Olympic marathons.
For the ladies, Katrin Dorre has achieved three top ten finishes (3rd 1988, 5th 1992, 4th 1996)

- Thanks for that. Rocksong 02:33, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Deek's dad?
Any more info on Deek's dad? Or on Deek Sr and Deek Jr's diets? i put "was" for Deek's dad, but it probably should be "is" - it depends if we're talking about his activity as a runner or whether he's still alive. i'd hope with the low-fat, high-carb diet and sensible, regular running, Deek Sr is still alive and healthy. :) Boud 22:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think the section should be removed. A marathon in 3 1/2 hours is nothing special. I see nothing noteworthy about him other than he's Deek's dad. Rocksong 12:16, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
de Castella
The name de Castella is not from the italian speaking part of switzerland, but from the french speaking part. The family Castella formerly de Castella is from the state of Fribourg, disctrict of Gruyères. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.76.182.29 (talk) 17:48, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

new Australian marathon record holder
This page needs to be updated as de Castella is unfortunately no longer the Australian marathon record holder https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-12-05/australian-marathon-records-broken-just-hours-apart/10173353458.80.201.106 (talk) 02:20, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
