AfC

at least it keeps 'em outta the article space <grin /> Dlohcierekim 11:04, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

add at bottom message

I hope it's OK that I appropriated your message. If not, I'll get rid of it. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 11:10, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

You're welcome. I found someone had copied most of my user page once. Didn't worry me. Different matter if I find anyone copying stuff I've written outside Wikipedia, though. Peridon (talk) 11:34, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Please check a deleted article for me

As an admin with access to deleted versions, could you compare the last version of Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_false_friends to the current version of List_of_false_friends for me and tell me if they are the same? Given that six years have passed, I suspect not, but thought I would make sure before the article goes to AFD. Valenciano (talk) 18:28, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Basically, it's the same idea, but so far only the Spanish words. Very similar in construction - different author and different table setting but the content is very similar - and probably not encyclopaedic. I do disagree with some of the 'Deletes', but the original was ginormous and unworkable. I'm not sure about it being a suitable list subject, but if it is, it should be separate for the different languages. G4 is debatable, and I think AfD is a better idea, given the time frame. Ideas change about what fits and doesn't. Peridon (talk) 18:52, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for checking that. Valenciano (talk) 19:45, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

What is CSD?

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Valley_of_the_Shadow_of_Death&curid=4177592&diff=584104713&oldid=584101144   Daniel.Cardenas (talk) 17:11, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

It's WP:CSD criteria for speedy deletion. Dlohcierekim 17:22, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
(ec) To address the case here, CSD is WP:CSD. It's the reasons for speedy deleting something. Admins are allowed to delete certain things very quickly, while the other two methods (Proposed Deletion or prod, and Articles for Deletion or AfD) take around a week. CSD is limited, and it doesn't cover everything. The A7 criterion, for example, does cover people, groups of people, named animals, web content and organised events. It doesn't cover software, records, riots. And it doesn't cover anything that shows significance. You tagged a record under a notability policy. The only criteria that would allow speedy deletion of an article about a record would be 'no content' or 'no context' (neither apply), attack, copyvio or advertising (not those either) or A9 'not notable record by group or artiste that doesn't have an article) - but the group does have an article. If you think it's not notable under WP:NALBUM,the route to go is Proposed Deletion. Notability is like significance but more so. Significance basically means that something could be worth writing about. Notability means that it is worth writing about. Another thing about notability is that it lasts. We get people proposing deletion of articles about bands that have broken up. If a band was notable once, it still is even though it hasn't issued a record in 20 years and three of the four members are dead or jailed for terms of around 50 years - meaning that the band is at an end and won't even have a reunion concert. Don't be afraid to ask if I've not been clear. And sorry if I have misunderstood your question. I sometimes answer a question that wasn't being asked... Peridon (talk) 17:35, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Another point is that any speedy request NOT based on one of the numbered criteria is likely to fail. There is db-reason - it's a waste of space. If it's not in the Criteria, it's not for speedy. Peridon (talk) 17:40, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Things like personal essays and "how to"s generally do bite the dust under db-reason though. Basically anything that clearly doesn't look like a salvagable article will fit into the db-reason criteria. Valenciano (talk) 18:33, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
They shouldn't. Essays and how-tos are prod material for me. Trouble is, they're hard to define in the specific way that most CSD criteria are defined - and limited. Peridon (talk) 18:41, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
I'm not saying it's right, but in practice I've often seen things like recipes deleted under db-reason criteria as I often watchlist new pages which look dubious, but aren't vandalism or copyvios, until the creator's intentions become clearer. Just as often such pages bite the dust under "test page" criteria, which occasionally does seem to be used as a default for "stuff which obviously won't survive in article space, but doesn't fit comfortably into other CSD criteria." Valenciano (talk) 19:45, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
I sometimes accept 'test page' for things that might or might not be. I probably shouldn't, but when I do, they LOOK like a test of some sort. CSD is not supposed to cover everything, and it doesn't. It takes out the most obvious and clearly defined things - in certain areas only. Peridon (talk) 20:39, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

RE: The Medieval Chamber

I see your point, but the band doesn't have an article it is just a redirect and i thought redirects counted as not having an article. Maybe i'm wrong. Koala15 (talk) 15:14, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

I was going by the WuTang association. If that doesn't count, then retag and put a note on the talk page. The whole rap business is more incestuously intertwined than modern jazz... Peridon (talk) 15:24, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Comment request

Hi. How are you doing? Could you please give your opinion on this query? Thanks.

PS I once saw your comment on UAA about some guy 'Ihatechickens', you know, it's not very nice to call other users 'a chicken' . Keep it up. Alex discussion 06:17, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Dear Peridon: I nominated the above article as a copyright infringement so that it couldn't be refunded under G13, but it is being contested. —Anne Delong (talk) 19:36, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

I've added a message with policies. It can't be refunded, so far as I am aware, because of the copyright, but it would get booted as G11 anyway. Peridon (talk) 20:28, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Dear Peridon, the issues raised have been addressed and the page has been edited taking all issues into account. The page is for informational purposes only, on an already established product. As for G11 this does not apply as stated earlier it is not being used for " Unambiguous advertising or promotion". Thanks Mcv369 (talk) 01:28, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Errrr.... I don't think I've ever seen an OTRS ticket, and as I don't know who Mark Marchi is anyway, I wouldn't know whether this is or isn't him. Sorry not to be of much use here, but I'd suggest trying another admin who is privy to deeper secrets than I am. <8-( Peridon (talk) 16:29, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Deletion query

Don't know how this works but why the hell did you delete my page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jameskennedy97 (talkcontribs) 16:26, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

How this works is you should follow the instructions at the top of this page... OK, your page. It was tagged for speedy deletion as being about a website whose significance wasn't asserted. I agreed, and as I am an administrator, deleted it. While we don't count high viewing figures as being of significance (easily faked), we do reckon that low figures and only one month of existence do tend to show a lack of significance (but probable honesty...). Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, and not everyone or everything gets an article. Most YouTube channels are not of significance outside their own in-crowd (sometimes not even inside...), but there are rare exceptions such as Smosh. Please read WP:WEB about web content notability, and WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed to prove the notability. Peridon (talk) 16:41, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

A query about G13 template

I forgot to get back to you about your question on WT:Criteria for speedy deletion/Archive 50#A query about G13 template, and it's since been archived. Your question is about the choice of the possessive, "I", correct? The reason for that is that the template itself is reporting that it can't parse the date (because it's not there to parse) regardless if it was a human or bot that applied the template to the page. Anyways, let me know if you have any further questions on it. :) Happy editing! Technical 13 (talk) 12:47, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

I don't mind bots using 'I', after all, they are little virtual people, aren't they? I'm not so sure about templates... I'm not tagging them so much now - there's enough doing it - but it doesn't seem consistent. Some of them that Rankersbo (for example) tags are green, some aren't. There seems no reason why one has the green light and another has the uncertainty. Both will have no edits for over six months. I could understand the problem when a bot was going round adding something to G13 candidates which meant that nothing was getting the green light, but the ones I'm talking about haven't had the bot interference (it's been stopped from doing it anyway, I think...). Travelauto

Hey Peridion, I tried to create a few corporate pages related to the car rental segement like Rentalcars (This is a company as well), Priceline (exists) and Travelauto - but it seems travelauto.com was in the deletion log. I wish can this be recreated. Let me know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.206.34.127 (talk) 04:27, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

It does help if people sign in (so we know where to look for things) and post at the bottom of the page (so we can find the post)... There's no article on a car rental company called Priceline, but there is one about an apparently notable travel booking company called priceline.com, and another one that's completely irrelevant in Australia. There's no article on Rentalcars, either. I haven't looked at the references, but there are quite a few. Your article on Travelauto made absolutely no claim to notability for the company and gave no references at all. I would advise you to read WP:CORP first, and then read WP:RS about reliable independent sources, which are needed to prove the notability. Then get in touch with me again. There's no point in restoring the article into article space, as it would be deleted again very quickly, but if you can find references, I'll put it into your userspace for reworking. Peridon (talk) 09:51, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Danny Gibson (politician)

I understand that you deleted the page, Danny Gibson (politician) why was this ? The person in question is of notability in his area. LauncestonWiki

He doesn't pass WP:POLITICIAN. Members of State assemblies (like Scotland, Kansas, or Tasmania) are the lowest level of notability. Town or county councillors - even aldermen (a varying office across the world) - don't make it, I'm afraid. Not unless they have some notability (WP:BIO) outside their political work. Candidates for the higher levels are not regarded as notable, either. Wikipedia can't list everyone and everything, and so the community has set the requirements for notability. This is done in open discussion and it is an ongoing process. The English language Wikipedia is probably the most strict on notability and referencing, Some of the others are more open. A lot of people don't understand that Wikipedia has these policies, and think that anyone can get a page (as they can on Facebook). Mr Gibson's political rivals (or colleagues) won't get articles either, by the way, unless they have notability some other way (with reliable independent sources WP:RS to prove it). delete talkpage too please

The creator of Icon Network, which I tagged for speedy and you deleted, has created the same thing on the talkpage too - Talk:Icon Network can you delete that and potentially salt it from being created again? Wittylama 00:11, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Susan M. Boyer Page

Hello. New to wikipedia. I just posted information on a new article I've been asked to create and you deleted it. Why was this deleted?

Thanks, Melryon216 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Melryon216 (talkcontribs) 21:19, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Melryon216 (talk) 21:20, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Restored. My apologies - I thought you had placed the G7 tag. I will say that you need to improve the referencing - an 'own site' cannot support notability. You need reliable independent sources WP:RS. You need to reference the Agatha - not to the Wikipedia article (you can put a two pairs of [ and ] around something that is an article on Wikipedia and that makes a wiki link like [[Dill]] becomes Dill when saved) - but proving that she won it. And so on. Have a talk with User:MelanieN who is good at things like this. Peridon (talk) 22:14, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) You rang? 0;-D About an hour after you restored the article, it got G7 deleted again. What is it about that page, that makes people think the author has requested deletion? I see that it got declined several times at Articles for Creation; maybe you should just put it into User:Melryon216's sandbox, where it will be safe until it is ready for mainspace. --MelanieN (talk) 23:14, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Thank you both. I've asked this particular entry to be deleted. I've been working in the meantime on a version in Sandbox since the Author herself has decided to make some changes to the content. Thanks to all. Melryon216 (talk) 23:18, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
Melryon216, I'll be glad to help with the sandbox version as time allows (I'll be unavailable for a few days this weekend). If the author herself is working on the article, please be sure she reads WP:Conflict of interest and WP:Autobiography. I would encourage her to trust others - regular Wikipedia editors like me, and people like yourself - to write the article about her. And of course she needs to realize that she will not WP:OWN the article - that other people will be able make edits to it. She doesn't need to fear that possibility - there will be people watching the article to protect it from vandalism, including me if I become involved with it - but the article will have to conform to Wikipedia's standards rather than necessarily hers. We will delete WP:PUFFERY and overly flowery language, and will make sure that significant claims are supported by reliable sources. Meantime, from a brief Internet search I think you need not fear that the article will get deleted; she is clearly notable as Wikipedia defines it. --MelanieN (talk) 23:45, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Deleted Aedin Adams Page

Excuse me, the Aedin Adams page had. Notable sources and links. Why was it deleted? All sources where not yet updated on the article. kindly requesting to bring back the page. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:100C:B01D:A4B5:44A4:6F26:9916:2E0B (talk) 12:00, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

I'll restore it, simply because I deleted it sooner after it was tagged than I usually do, but I will tag it for attention by another admin. You must not remove the speedy deletion tag again, by the way. Not even if you are using a different account or an IP. The subject is not shown to be notable (two bit parts, neither yet released, is not notable, and IMDb, Twitter and the subject's site are not reliable independent sources WP:RS). Please read WP:NACTOR and WP:BIO about notability. When you post, please be signed in, and please stick to either Allie132 or Allie1132. Alternative accounts for special purposes are allowed, but you aren't in that position yet, so far as I can see. Using more than one account or editing logged-out can give rise to suspicions of sock-puppetry WP:SOCK. Peridon (talk) 12:22, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Deleting redirects from Draft namespace

Hey Peridon, I just wanted to ping you about Draft:John Wainwright Evans. Did the original mover request deletion? I was curious because we're discussing issues like should we delete draft redirects or not at Wikipedia talk:Drafts#Policies about the new namespace. Personally, I am very much in favor of not deleting draft redirects, because if do, it masks the fact that the page started as a draft, if you examine the history of John Wainwright Evans. Please chime in on WT:Drafts, if you have a chance. Thanks, and happy holidays. Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 20:15, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

All the best to you too. I've commented. Profusely (and stirringly...). In the sense of stirring it up rather than the sense of rousing the troops... Peridon (talk) 22:00, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

My page got deleted...

I tried to make a Wikipedai about me as a music Artist, JAYthaRipper, why did it get deleted, and how do I go about making a proper music wiki for an artist significant enough to not get deleted in the future? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1JAY7 (talkcontribs) 07:45, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

It's a question of the artiste being significant, or for preference, notable. ?Significant gets through speedy deletion, but notability is required to pass Proposed Deletion or Articles for Deletion. I deleted because I couldn't see any sign of significance (and nearly added 'advertising' to the deletion reason). Read WP:BAND about notability for musicians, and WP:RS about the reliable independent sources you need to provide to prove the notability. Places like Twitter and Soundcloud are not RS. Nor are YouTube, Facebook or your own site. Not everyone gets an article on Wikipedia - it's an encyclopaedia not somewhere like Facebook where everyone (except me) has a page. I see that the latest version has gone, and the title's been protected. That means only an admin can use it now. If you can find proof that you pass WP:BAND, let an admin know. Oh yes, please read WP:AUTOBIO too. Peridon (talk) 11:25, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
