Thanks you for this – really appreciate the help! Best, Bridget (talk) 00:20, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi!

Thanks for assembling sets as usual. Can you please consider promoting my entry Template:Did you know nominations/Kinjirō Ashiwara? You don't have to use the image. BorgQueen (talk) 00:48, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

@BorgQueen: I will check it out tonight! Bruxton (talk) 00:50, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Mavis Paterson DYK

Hi Bruxton. I was wondering what you are meaning by needing to cite the hook information. Routine calculations (such as the addition I did in the lede) is permitted, and I don't see the problem with calling someone an octogenarian when it's mentioned in the body that they celebrated their 85th birthday in 2023. Could you please explain so I know what I should do? Schminnte (talk contribs) 07:24, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Schminnte: I have to search for the numbers to add them up to 10,000. It is summarized in the lead but not repeated and cited in the body. The numbers which add up to 10k are scattered. As to octogenarian, I see an article which uses the word so it could also be cited. Maybe it does not have to be... But it easier for the reviewers, promotors, administrators to have the hook language in the body cited. Thanks for working in DYK. Bruxton (talk) 13:48, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
I personally don't see any issue in terms of policy violation, but if you have any changes in mind please do make them. Thanks for the promotion. Schminnte (talk contribs) 17:43, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
@Schminnte: Thanks, ideally I would like to see the hook represented as a sentence which is cited in the body. In this case as I said, I am required to do math to piece it together. Bruxton (talk) 19:30, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Amanda Lee (pilot)

On 3 June 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Amanda Lee (pilot), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels' first female fighter jet demonstration pilot, Amanda Lee (pictured), uses the call sign "Stalin"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Amanda Lee (pilot). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Amanda Lee (pilot)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

June songs
my story today
Thank you for another good one! - For the first time, you can listen to a concert with me in the (four) choirs on YouTube, - on my talk, look for "listen" if interested. - Today's story is taken from a 2011 DYK, talking about brotherhood (which includes sisters), - the piece in question, beginning with a psalm quotation, was first performed 300 years ago OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:18, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

Jörg Widmann is 50 today, and I began Stockholm pics. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:55, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

Today's story is about a singer whom I saw twice, not Wagner and Strauss, but Bach and Weill - more vacation pics! - That hook from 2013 would not have passed these days, instead some critic would be quoted who said that when you heard her your ears were glowing ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:05, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

Today: a woman caught by the iron curtain (improved with SusunW and GRuban), yesterday: the Mass in B minor, heard in concert then, three musical videos are out, and the rest of the vacation pics is now there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:41, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

DYK reply

Hey Bruxton, regarding your question about Şikayetname, I used the spellings from a Turkish source for consistency since the name is Turkish. Also, I wanted to clarify if it was made clear that the ALT1 hook was the one that was supposed to pass and not the first one. Thanks. — Golden call me maybe? 16:09, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

@Golden: I did not care for ALT1 - If you really like it I can go back and examine it. Bruxton (talk) 21:58, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

Hello Bruxton/Archives/2023,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

The Stone Breakers

Hi @Bruxton. I hope you're staying well. Thanks for your hard work on the article about The Stone Breakers by Gustave Courbet, which was much needed. I didn't want to impose too much with my own edits, so thought would share some information here instead. For starters, these two free sources should be of help as you're continuing to improve the page: https://smarthistory.org/courbet-the-stonebreakers/ and https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/gust/hd_gust.htm. Both are vetted and reliable, and could be used to replace some of the less useful sources including the Oskar Reinhart Collection 'Am Römerholz' and TheArtStory (I've removed that one altogether per recent RSN discussion; it's not unreliable per se, but there are much better alternatives). As for some more influential art historical material that is crucial to this work, Clark, Timothy J.. Image of the People: Gustave Courbet and the 1848 Revolution. United Kingdom: University of California Press, 1999 and Fried, Michael. Courbet's Realism. United Kingdom: University of Chicago Press, 1992 need at least a short mention. If Google Books doesn't give you sufficient access, WP Library should have enough on JSTOR to adequately summarize their work for the purpose of the article. I hope this is useful and please let me know if I can be of any help! Ppt91talk 01:13, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

@Ppt91: Thanks! That was a fun article. Such an interesting story and a tragic end. Your editing is appreciated. It will see the front page for DYK this week. I may have to see what else the artist did. Bruxton (talk) 01:25, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

The article The Stone Breakers you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. I saw your comment about adding the French text for this DYK. Do you mean for just the first hook, or all three?

Where should I post them now that the DYK is promoted?

Thanks!–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:12, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

@CaroleHenson: I promoted the one I could confirm, although "highly successful" may be scrutinized. I actually liked ALT1 but I could not conform it in the reference. It is helpful to share the blurb from offline sources. Bruxton (talk) 02:16, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Is this what you need from Women and religion in sixteenth-century France, p. 128?

Women were recognised by contemporaries as crucial networks of communication to political and military actions. Women’s letters, like those of their male contemporaries, passed on important details of political and military significance. Compared to sources such as printed texts, Mark Greengrass has argued recently that insufficient attention has been paid to the significance of correspondence for the develop- ment of informal networks in French Protestantism.°* The letters concerning Huguenot political activities passed between Charlotte Arbaleste, other noblewomen and Arbaleste’s husband Philippe Duplessis-Mornay indicate a highly successful network of information.°? Elisabeth, Duchess of Bouillon, complained to her sister Charlotte- Brabantine about the seizure of the latter’s private letters to her: ‘having been taken two days from here, your letters have been seen by others as well as me... sent back from the governor into the hands of he who commands the Chatelet, who having opened them lost none of them’. Evidence of women’s coded correspondence, a response to the situation described by Elisabeth, testifies to the political value of its messages; those of Catherine de Parthenay to Charlotte Arbaleste, as well as Duplessis-Mornay to his wife and other Huguenot women, interspersed sections in numerical codes with passages discussing other political events.°!

@CaroleHenson: I underlined "a highly successful network of information".–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:31, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Yes, thanks, I meant to say I liked ALT0 but could not confirm "encrypted". But thanks for the blurb. I like the image and hook. Bruxton (talk) 02:34, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
I don't know why I used a google books version for that in the DYK post. I am pretty sure that somewhere along the line I saw it in an archive.org book (likely a different book). But I could research it and get you the French version and show the translated version, if you'd like to use Alt0.–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:44, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
@CaroleHenson: I think the promoted hook works based on the source. If you like the other hook we can consider it. Bruxton (talk) 02:48, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
I am good, no change needed for me, thanks!–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:52, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
