G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

Hello, Randomness74. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. "Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Randomness74, thank you for taking the trouble to review this article. I'm aware how thankless a task that can be.
Would you mind clarifying a couple of points for my benefit – so I can improve the article.?
1. You feel the article is way too long and should be shortened or split up. I can surely shorten it; but it would help me if I could understand your criteria better. Right now it has a readable prose size of 36 kb; according to WP:SIZERULE its length alone does not justify division. Is is that you consider the military operation, in itself, wasn't important enough to justify that length?
Sections 3 and 4 are a bit long and not really necessary (could be shortened such as in other articles like Battle of Stalingrad or Battle of Midway) I generally organize articles about battles like this: Background, Prelude (lead-up battles/operations), Battle (several sections about), Aftermath, See Also, and Refs. (again, this is just my way of doing it) The Histiographical section could be removed as well.--Randomness74 (talk) 23:46, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It seems like you are writing a summary of a long book (based on organization and writing) instead of Wikipedia article. (Heading sound like chapter titles, with sections overstretched) Wikipedia is supposed to be an encyclopedia, so I would recommend to write the article more like an encyclopedia entry (read other good/featured articles on Wikipedia for examples) instead of a book (although with your level of knowledge, you could write a book about this.)Randomness74 (talk) 23:59, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
2. You say some paragraphs and sentences need inline citations. I'm a little confused about this because, to the very best of my knowledge, every proposition in the article is fully referenced, except for those unlikely to be challenged or which refer out to the parallel article Fortress of Humaitá − which, BTW, I spent an equivalent amount of time on and has GA status. If you have time, would you mind giving me an example or two where inline citations are missing?
Example: However the Paraguayans continued to supply Humaitá anyway, from the Chaco side, using the road they had previously made to Timbó on the opposite bank. From Timbó to Humaitá was a short river journey by steamer, of which Paraguay deployed a pair. See the map The scene north of Humaitá in late 1867. (Section 10, Paragraph 4). The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.
I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.
Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.
