Today's story is about Maria Callas, on her centenary. - Aaron Copland died OTD, and Jerome Kohl (mentioned in November) said something wise on Copland's talk. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:29, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Was my mother's father's 100th on August 27, though he died in 1997!
What is the general perception of Elon Musk in Germany Gerda? Is he seen as a Trump-like figure who says things which wind people up? The AI and Neurolink stuff is very interesting and is clearly going to be huge, but I dread to think what it'll be capable of eventually! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:55, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No idea, - I'm just a simple church choir singer ;) - I like the pic in my story today that I took in April 2022, of a building about which we wrote together, and where I'll listen to Voces8 tonight. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:48, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I listened and it was great, especially the extremely soft parts. Only it was at Ringkirche, - my mistake. Pic and program tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:57, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's nice. Looks very Kensington and Chelsea that photograph of them. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:19, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Has it been super dark where you are today? It's 2:50 pm here and the darkest I can ever remember it in daytime! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:58, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, actually it was extra bright from 11 to about 2pm, then fog crept in, which had been all around all day. Pic to be uploaded later, - I try to keep them coming in chronological order, with concerts the exception. Voces8 performed the encore on the pic, - I won't take pics during the real concert. They asked us not applaud in what they called sets (of 2 or once 3) and praised us for being obedient ;) - They took turns announcing the next pieces which didn't follow the printed program exactly. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:36, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just wondered if it was something to do with the apparent hole in the sun at the moment! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:19, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Today, I managed to get the pics to snow (on 28 Nov), and heard a lovely concert, after listening to a miracle of meditative dreaming on 6 December (or just click on music). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:56, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
... and today, to Paris (29 Nov) with a visit to the Palais Garnier, - to match the story of Medea Amiranashvili, - don't miss listening to her expressive voice. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:53, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My story today is about Michael Robinson, - it's an honour to have known him. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:52, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
At least he's not a recent death too! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:19, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would do a lot more article translations if the referencing wasn't so poor on German Wikipedia. It takes ten times the time to chase up references than it does to actually write it! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:55, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ingrid Steeger is a topic I will not have time for until 28 December. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:08, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Today, I have a special story to tell, of the works of a musician born 300 years ago. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:52, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

today my Christmas card No. 1 --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:08, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Prost Gerda Arendt, Schöne Feiertage! Habt ein wunderschönes Weihnachtsfest! Alles gute zum neuen Jahr! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:56, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Holidays

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, people's rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension. Happy Holidays to you and yours. The editor retention project was created back in July of 2012 and is still considered active. The lights are on and the rent is paid for the foreseeable future. Stop by for a chat. Start a thread. Nominate a fellow editor to be Editor of the Week. It's still a good idea. ―Buster7

Thanks Buster7! Indeed, a very worthy cause, though I generally see much less aggression and hostility between editors these days compared to the old days.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:18, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Agreed. The disquieting times of the past seem to have abated. Clovermosses project had me looking into my talk pages history. Not a pleasent trip. Met great editors but also some scallywags. WikiWorld is much calmer now. Buster7 (talk) 01:47, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article Basic Education High School No. 1 Kyaukse has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

As far as I can tell Burmese article is not sourced. Article has been tagged as unsourced for over a decade - I did a Google search and the subject does not seem to be notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Invitation

Hello Dr. Blofeld, we need experienced volunteers.
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
  • Cheers, and hope to see you around.

CAPTAIN RAJU(T) 19:53, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dr. Blofeld,

I appreciate your contributions to the discussion about the infobox image for Clint Eastwood's Wikipedia page. However, I'd like to express concern regarding the consistency of the argument and the tone of your recent comment. Do you work for The Wikimedia Foundation, Inc.? I am curious.

You mentioned that "we" tend to use more recent photos for living individuals, which is a valid point. However, the current image in the infobox is more than 10 years old, which is not particularly recent either. This seems to contradict the argument for using a more current image. Additionally, there are more recent images of Clint Eastwood available on Wikimedia Commons. It's unclear why these options are being dismissed out of hand or my opinion is being summarily dismissed as it is.

Moreover, the phrase "A waste of time" in your comment could be perceived as dismissive and not aligned with the collaborative spirit and respect encouraged by Wikipedia. The [Civility Policy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Civility) of Wikipedia underscores the importance of maintaining a polite and welcoming environment. It states, "Editors should always treat each other with consideration and respect," and this is essential for a healthy and constructive discussion.

I believe it's important for all of us to consider the consistency of our arguments and to engage in a discussion that is both respectful and constructive, adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines. I look forward to a continued dialogue where all perspectives are valued and considered with the shared goal of representing the subject of the article in the best way possible.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
