  • ... that Australian and Greek troops under Lieutenant Colonel Ian Ross Campbell held off a force of over 1,000 German paratroops on Crete for ten days? Source: "On 20 May a force of 1300-1500 paratroops was dropped to both flanks of and on top of the Australians. The Germans had powerful air support, and the Australians were isolated from the start from the rest of the garrison of Crete. Lt-Col CAMPBELL remained in command during ten days continuous and at times bitter hand to hand fighting." ([1])

  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but there is no inline cite for him commanding Australian and Greek troops, per WP:DYK#Cited hook. Also, why don't you say over 1,300 Germans? Yoninah (talk) 19:35, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Added another inline cite. And over a thousand sounds better. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 20:41, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Patience Campbell

[edit]

According to a Times obituary, their marriage was dissolved after two years.[1] Not mentioned in the article, and difficult to reconcile with the fact that they share a gravesite. The fact that Campbell did not remarry until five years after her death may also be significant. I am particularly interested in Patience A. Russell's earlier history.
