Karolína ranking update[edit]

Karolína is number WTA 1, her Wikipedia page should be changed to show her new ranking! Dee dee johnson (talk) 12:21, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The exclamation mark is not necessary. No, Karolína is not No. 1 yet. She is currently the world No. 3 (see the official WTA ranking). That's why the page is not updated yet (and that's why the page is semi-protected to prevent edits from inexperienced editors, as this is what always happens when a tennis player is projected to become the world No. 1). The WTA rankings will be updated on Monday, Karolína will become No. 1 on 17 July, and that's when the Wikipedia page will be updated, too. Generally, tennis rankings are only updated on Monday, there are no "live" rankings on the WTA and ATP, and presenting future, projected rankings as current official rankings, presenting future dates (e.g. 17 July) as history (like saying "She became No. 1 on 17 July", when it's 12 July) is forbidden on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, things can only be reported after they happen, and WP:TENNIS says that only official rankings are allowed, no pre-calculated, future rankings.—J. M.
